Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

Seem OP doesn’t actually include herself in the magical ‘we’ who have to do something. A couple of emails to the government is quite sufficient.

This is such a rubbish argument. Do you believe that the government should support the NHS? Yes - then go and volunteer at the hospital. Should we support good education - go and teach kids how to read, etc etc
I would take in a refugee but we have no spare bedroom. My parents have taken in a Ukrainian woman and would have taken in others but it's not easy.
People do want to help and the government could support that much better. homes for Ukraine shown how willing people are. They should do a similar scheme with other refugees.

All the confirmation needed that you're a goady fucker warm in your 4 bed house.

So for trying to help those in war torn nations I'm the villain? That roof is for my children, what’s) your logic?

@InayaWoo You won't say why you can't make your children share a bedroom and help some of these refugees. Why won't you?

Given the main news story this week, people are justifiably upset and angry.

An asylum seeker, allowed into the UK because of 'British values' attacked a defenceless woman and a toddler, resulting in horrifying injuries. We are yet to find out exactly why he did it, but clearly that man's values aren't very 'British' are they ! He hasn't assimilated into our way of life. There is no justification for attacking a 3yo like that.

Let things calm down a bit, the criminal justice system will run its course and people will be less fired up.

Plus the immigrant that was housed securely last week in a mh facility for killing the 2 students and grandfather. We don't want these specimens in our country - what use are they? They take, they don't give. They don't work do they? Send them back

GoldenMeadow · 04/02/2024 08:44

They should claim asylum in the first safe country they land in. But nope, they continue to flock here in their thousands.....

The country does not have the infrastructure or public services to accommodate these people. That's a fact, we just DON'T.

What about all the other cases where men from different cultures exploit our young women and girls?

What about the white grooming gangs? Which obviously doesn’t make headline news because it’s not as interesting enough.

Are you aware of how privileged it is to have your house and room each. People elsewhere would love that and wouldn’t mind the space offered

If you want to help you can

More than an mn thread, actual help

Women come here as well. Why does it matter? They have rights.

I've seen swarms of men coming in, not many women though

Actually it just seems British women are too entitled and judgemental.

@InayaWoo

Me personally house them?

Well you have a large house. Where else do you expect people to go? Are councils expected to suddenly find houses? They are refusing to go into Bibby Stockholm or barracks accommodation. So what is your solution?

AgnesX · 04/02/2024 08:46

British values? And what are they exactly?

I think you'll find what people think they are and are different depending on the newspaper they read.

InayaWoo · 04/02/2024 08:30

I would love nothing more but as I said I’m mother of three, four bedrooms and would not have the space for them.

I’m a mother of two and I made space in my home for a Ukrainian refugee mother and her two daughters for a year…. Because I was passionate about helping

what are you doing to help about something you’re so passionate about?

Exactly! Never known more entitlement and whining like you hear from British women.

To make unjustified claims

Are they unjustified? There was a study released by a Scandinavian country I believe recently which followed x families granted asylum decades ago. The statistics for crime, refusal to learn the language and not working were very clear and extended to the second generation also

Sounds like Brute abroad!

jolies1 · 04/02/2024 08:48

Every human has a right to safety. Where there is conflict is regarding refugees / migrants who travel through many, and leave, safe countries (ie France) to come to claim asylum in UK.

soupfiend · 04/02/2024 08:49

InayaWoo · 04/02/2024 06:45

That’s more bigotry than anything, I come from a Middle Eastern country and that is completely wrong!

Are you saying the study is wrong?

My solution is equal rights. Houses, like you live in.

And when there is no more land to build housing what then? Should we destroy all our green spaces for homes and become an entire land of bricks and mortar

Spectre8 · 04/02/2024 08:53

If you have a 4bed house op I assume it had a garden, I'm sure you'll happily have housing built on it to house them infact you won't have a choice the government will cpo it and build it.

The op clearly isn't interested in hearing any of your opinions, evidence or arguments. Doesn't matter what you say, she has a fixed mindset. She's just here for the drama.
