Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

My solution is equal rights. Houses, like you live in.

Your housing isn’t space efficient.

Will you say yes to it being knocked down for flats to house all the people you want here?

I mean you can as you sound keen. But don’t ask it of others.

The op clearly isn't interested in hearing any of your opinions, evidence or arguments. Doesn't matter what you say, she has a fixed mindset. She's just here for the drama.

I came for opinions and quite frankly the views are awful.

Well you aren't helping why should others lol

genesis92 · 04/02/2024 08:57

Should we be a nation that refuses to help refugees?

So you can't even answer the question 🙄

Four bedrooms is a lot of space for a family of five. Act on what you believe OP. Put your children in one room and allow two single male refugees the opportunity of starting afresh in your house.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 04/02/2024 08:57

We should help genuine refugees who apply through the correct channels not all those men appearing on boats and I stand by that. Refugees who want to come here and work and fill employment gaps I’m all for

I’m not afraid of refugees like most British women, my father was one. I don’t have the space.

Yes exactly. You have too much

A register for those who start threads like this who can sign away their house to build more for refugees should help

What about the equal rights for UK born citizens who are homeless or living in a hostel/b&b for years on end as there is no housing for them? Or is it only equal rights if you come from elsewhere?

You don't seem to grasp that equal rights can't happen in this country currently as there is no money or housing. The NHS is in a shit state and we can't help anyone let alone new arrivals.

I would love to move to America, and in your fantasy Utopia I should be able to, but guess what? They don't want everyone to descend on them, the same as Australia and numerous other countries.

There are British born and bred who don't have safe affordable housing, can't afford food so they're having to go to food banks or are going hungry, a non functioning healthcare system. So how can we give refugees all thesee things if we can't give them to our own?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 04/02/2024 08:59

You've got FOUR bedrooms!! Get a couple of single young males in - it's your duty damnit!

chosenone · 04/02/2024 08:59

‘Whiny white British Women’ ahem!!

I don’t think it’s whining when we stand up for children living in poverty or speak out against grooming gangs all over the country! My British values want to protect young people against CSE which doesn’t quite match the values of other cultures as evidenced in Rochdale and Rotherham and several other cities!

How dare you think that people languishing on housing lists, living in B&Bs, women’s refuges who are queuing at food banks and clothing banks are going to be happy that others arrive here and get to the front of the queue! Naive? Selfish? Entitled?

Correct channels?

What does that mean. You reference applying for work visas. Those people are not seeking asylum, they are workers who want to come here to work

People seeking asylum cannot do so from their home country or any other country

The vast majority of people fleeing war and persecution go to Syria, other ME countries, other european countries. We dont have vast amounts coming here

Menomeno · 04/02/2024 09:00

Most of them (69% according to UNHCR figures) do claim asylum in the first safe country. If you look at countries like Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, they have ENORMOUS numbers of refugees relative to their populations. They can’t all stay in the country next door, but most of them do.

Look at how Poland has been struggling with the number of Ukrainians they’ve taken in. Four million of them, which is 24 times more than the UK. Poland aren’t a wealthy nation.

The numbers of refugees that end up here are a drop in the ocean compared to Middle Eastern countries and mainland Europe. Every country has a duty to take it’s fair share. We don’t take our fair share.

Lol you have some but don't want to share it to help others but expect other people to.

You don't need a 4bed house your children can share bedrooms. Its a privilege you can afford to have that and have your children have a bedroom each when many kids around the world don't.

There is only finite space on this planet, we cannot build homes so thay everyone has their own bedroom we also cannot destroy every inch of green space to house people cos how would you grow food naturally, where would people play etc.

You are delusional
