I was going to have lunch with a friend today who suggested weatherspoons (cheap and cheerful). I could not believe that their 3 small plates have increased from £10 to £15! Which led me onto thinking what else has jumped up a considerable amount product wise! We shop at Aldi so I haven't noticed a big difference YET.

Lidl do tinned mushrooms. I used to stock up on them at 30 odd p a tin. Much cheaper and rarely bought fresh. Sloshing 3/4 tins in a bolognaise etc. They are now something like 99p a tin 😳😳😳. I now buy frozen - can often get them £1 from Aldi. 4 times as much as the tin.

Asda’s have jumped from 35p to 65p recently as well.

DC tell me refreshers (those single ones)are up 100%, from 10p to 20p in our corner shop. Posh crisps that were £1 for 100g, now £1.30ish for 85g.

My hairdresser - cost went up by during covid because of all the distancing measures and has never come down.

A bog standard packed of jacobs crackers was £2.20 in Waitrose this morning. Own brand were 70p.
Over 2quid for bog standard crackers, not even some fancy pants artisan brand.

Home Pride pasta bake jar of sauce. Used to be regularly on offer at £1 and £1.50 full price. Now £2.80.

Callipygion · 25/03/2023 17:03

I’m reeling at the price of a box of Oatibix biscuits. They used to be £2 and you could very often get them on offer at 2 boxes for £3, now they are £3.50 each!

Yes, you could get a 250g pack of butter for 99p now it’s over £2. And I was buying extra mature cheddar cheese in Aldi for £1.79 and I think it’s now £2.49 or close to that.

IndiganDop · 25/03/2023 17:11

Heinz ketchup. 3:40 for a small bottle in Tesco. Had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Will never buy it again.

I do a bit of odd shopping for elderly neighbour, he has the odd roll up ciggie, his brand usually costs £12.50, the corner shop wanted £17 yesterday, I told them it was robbery and the budget increase was about 30pence so i walked to asda and paid £12.70. Shops are meant to sell current stock at pre budget prices I think or only apply the govt increase. so many opportunists out there skimming people.

Ladybyrd · 26/03/2023 10:41

@earsup I think it's so wrong. Yes, everyone has to make a living, but it's like when were snowed in and out local garage doubled the price for milk. I boycott shops when I see these ridiculous prices but some people don't have a choice.

Tromso · 02/04/2023 23:51

Sainsbury's (admittedly terrible) chocolate eclairs were 95p for two last week and had been for a while, £1.75 now.

Also their own brand of cola zero has gone from 47p to 65p this week, and their knock-off Mars bars recently went from 65p to £1.

Won't be buying those for the kids any more.

Twilight7777 · 03/04/2023 00:23

Kitchen roll. It was £7 for plenty 😳

Zuffe · 03/04/2023 09:11

You should try Iceland @Tromso

Olive oil
Butter
Cheese
Cat food
Own brand sparkling water from Ocado. ( I know, reprehensible environment wise but is now five times the price)

loadypoady · 05/04/2023 07:29

Aldi cowbelle UHT skimmed milk is now 95 pence a litre. It used to be 54 pence. How can they justify that increase!
I purchased fresh milk instead and commented on the increase to the checkout operator who said Aldi only care about their shareholders not customers or staff.

TankFlyBoss · 06/04/2023 15:53

£2.50 for a tin of Vaseline lip balm!!!

Sohungrynow · 06/04/2023 15:58

M&S salmon prawn mousse parcels. They were about £3.50 not that long ago, then I looked and they were a fiver and now I think they are £6. They were always a treat but when I think what I can buy for £6 I end up putting them back. ☹️

Tbf milk production costs have risen exponentially in last year and considering shitty delas farmers had before, not surprised it doubled. Let's be realistic, 1l of milk even UHT for 95p is still cheap considering the production
