Let's just say I won't be returning
Unfortunately nothing had a price on and it was too late to back out once it was rung through

9 quid for it Christ that’s good valve go back frequently and when you become a good customer watch the little extras you get with no charge.

now about that one sausage no it’s always 2 if the big fat ones.

alwayscheery · 17/01/2023 09:41

£8.50

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 17/01/2023 09:44

I'd have guessed £8 so I wasn't far off.

GiltEdges · 17/01/2023 09:45

If I got change from £10 for that I’d have been happy enough, which it seems you did so 👍

Shade17 · 17/01/2023 09:34

That would still be pitiful

How? It's probably about a 1000 calories and a real plateful, with plenty of protein.

3 of us, one each. They're big and fat.

One each? Good grief I suddenly feel greedy. I'd also be a bit mortified to walk in and specifically ask for 3 sausages.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/01/2023 09:53

Butchers are used to people buying small and odd quantities of things.
It's one of the big advantages of them.

You can buy exactly the amount you want, unlike supermarkets, that generally cater for families of 4.

gogohmm · 17/01/2023 09:55

Here sausages are about £1 each, eggs £1.50 for 6. No idea about black pudding so maybe about £10

Togoodtobeforgotten · 17/01/2023 10:05

I sent my son into the shop for a punnet of strawberries through summer I gave him a tenner he came back out the shop with quarter of a punnet of the tiniest strawberrys you've ever seen they were nearly £6 and this is in the North lol

BodenCardiganNot · 17/01/2023 10:07

Why would you be mortified?

Caddycat · 17/01/2023 10:08

At my local butcher (not in London, but "nice" place) depending on the size of the black pudding, that would be £18-£22.

It’s a tiny breakfast! If I’m having a fry-up I want to know I’ve had one!

Jenasaurus · 17/01/2023 10:15

Just did a comparison with full packs of the items and this is what you could have got for less money but more food (although not butcher standard)

The Bury Black Pudding 4 Slices 230G - £1.10

Tesco Large Free Range Eggs 6 Pack - £1.75

Tesco 8 Brtish Pork Sausages 454G - £2.00

So for 4.85 you could have enough for 2 days of breakfasts.

Flapjackquack · 17/01/2023 10:16

I was thinking about £12 for that would be alright so I was going to guess £20 as you were shocked. Where do you live? 1982? Do they deliver? Sounds great value.

EffortlessDesmond · 17/01/2023 10:20

My butcher charges £3.50 for 500g of his prize-winning sausages; free range eggs are £1.40 for 6 from the farmer's honesty stall (please return egg boxes) and I'm a southerner -- never eaten black pudding.

gemstoneju · 17/01/2023 10:39

Go to the supermarket at discount time and buy some and put them in your freezer. Vegan sausages seem to go for a song particularly. Whatever they contain, it couldn't be as revolting as what goes into the animal-based ones.

Really? Because they taste revolting. Probably why they go for a song.

thesugarbumfairy · 17/01/2023 10:46

I dunno although I would have guessed about £9

however, I just looked at the prices for our local butcher and they do a Breakfast Pack for £12 which is
12 x Eggs
8 x Sausages
500g Bacon
6 Slices of Black Pudding

that seems like a really good deal and if I didn't already get eggs delivered from the egg man (still don't know his name after a decade) and if anyone ate black pudding here, then Id probably go for it.

mushroom3 · 17/01/2023 10:49

You say you got a horseshoe ring of black pudding, so not just 3 little slices. £9 sounds fine!

Verbena17 · 17/01/2023 11:45

£11.20

Blimey, I get a good sized punnet of sweet locally grown strawberries for £2.50 on the south coast.

mushroom3 · 17/01/2023 12:39

@Togoodtobeforgotten maybe he bought alpine strawberries. Tiny and tasty and very expensive!

Why would you be mortified?

Where I'm from you go in and ask for 1lb or 2lb etc. You'd get a dead funny look if you walked in and asked for 3 sausages.

I would ask for a certain number (more likely a round number like 4 or 6 rather than 3, but our butcher would look at me oddly if I started using imperial measurements.

FancyFanny · 17/01/2023 16:03

Why would a butcher think someone was odd for using imperial measurements? Surely it's very common in shops that sell by weight to use lbs or ounces.
