Let's just say I won't be returning
Unfortunately nothing had a price on and it was too late to back out once it was rung through

OP posts:

I'd be sad with only one sausage

EileenAdler · 16/01/2023 10:06

Slightly off piste but I was in a smallish village in Surrey yesterday, not too far from Dorking, and they were charging £15 for bangers and mash. This was an ordinary pub, nothing special and they were catering pack sausages !. And £7.50 for a glass of supermarket plonk.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/01/2023 10:07

Maybe the one sausage was to go with black pudding and eggs, plus toast, beans, tomatoes, hash browns and mushrooms in a cooked breakfast?

That wouldn't be too bad.

Nurse2022 · 16/01/2023 10:09

Not as high as the cost to the various animals, I would say

Was going to say £12, and I live in a nice area not London, too. Hope the sausages were nice.

ivykaty44 · 17/01/2023 05:12

£3.85 for black pudding in my local farmers market shop

eggs are a standard £2.50 for a decent size

coop sausage fir 6 thin sausage £2.95

sausage are usually sold by the pound, so 3 fat sausage were probably about a pound

so that would be £9.30

Catspyjamas17 · 17/01/2023 05:27

I guessed a £1 a sausage, assuming they were chunky and decent, so £3, £2.50 for the eggs and £4.50 for the BP assuming it's not just a single slice.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/01/2023 05:33

It's illegal not to display the prices. They don't have to be on the actual items, but if there was no visible price list they're breaking the law and you should report them to Trading Standards. I guessed £8 so not far off the mark. Food has become so expensive compared to what we had got used to.

Metabigot · 14/01/2023 19:58

3 of us, one each. They're big and fat.

That's a big rude to the other two, calling them big and fat. 😦

mickandrorty · 17/01/2023 05:53

ours is £4.60 just for the 6 eggs!

tinytemper66 · 17/01/2023 06:22

£12?

Coffeecreme · 17/01/2023 06:27

£12

Coffeecreme · 17/01/2023 06:30

yes, things are expensive, price of a nice sausage though

Intrepidescape · 17/01/2023 06:43

This post is inane.

HelenHywater · 17/01/2023 06:48

ha the same from my local chi chi butchers in zone 2 London would be £25 I think.

Yabu - I think paying more for better meat is fine.

(a packet of lurpack is nearly £6 fgs! That's an outrage).

FamilyFunAdventure · 17/01/2023 06:49

Metabigot · 14/01/2023 20:01

So the answer is £9 is that not eyebrow raising these days

Sausages whilst decent size are not mega sized
Eggs used to be £2 thought it would be maybe £2 the black pudding and £2 the sausages so dunno where I got fleeced

This is what I would have expected to pay a couple of years back anyway but seems I'm way out

Doesn’t sound unreasonable really. How much would they have had to charge for you to have said something? You could have refused to pay despite it being rung up. That said, I can’t talk, I once paid £5 for a scotch egg, I think I was in shock as I paid whilst the voice in my head was screaming HOW MUCH!

MotherOfHouseplants · 17/01/2023 06:52

Sorry OP but that is about half what I was expecting you to say.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/01/2023 07:09

Yes, I was expecting much more than that.

Iamnotausername · 17/01/2023 07:14

That is what I'd expect tbh. Hope you enjoyed them.

FancyFanny · 17/01/2023 07:16

I'm not at all surprised at those prices. Big fat butchers sausages, probably free range local eggs and a handmade black pudding are all bound to be more than than those items at a big supermarket. I don't mind paying my butcher a bit more for meat because I know it's all local produce- not from big factory farms. He makes his own sausages, sells pies from a local bakery, and sells local eggs.

WonderingWanda · 17/01/2023 07:27

I think that seems reasonable for higher quality farm shop food. I've just priced up the same in Asda and it comes to £7.50 for off the shelf items.

IwtHs · 17/01/2023 07:28

That's a good price!
