Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

Yeah, I'm a really low user anyway.
If they do a session on my laundry day it might be worth it though.

Oh that must be a bit disheartening for the effort!

You must be a very low user generally which is much better in the long run!

But you can't save any more than 100%. The OP must have turned everything off, which is the most anyone can do.

Our results aren't in yet, so still waiting.

The last two sessions have been on a Tuesday, so I don't know if that pattern will continue. I remember last week the opt in email came out quite late the day before.

Hereforthedramaz · 28/11/2022 14:04

Thanks @BarbaraofSeville I realise that, I meant for 100% the points are low and they are clearly a low user

NewBootsAndRanty · 28/11/2022 14:21

You get entered into a 4000 points (£500) draw too for opting in, so it's still worth opting in, as a pp mentioned there's also the "streak" points - even if you don't make any savings (they haven't shown up yet on my account either).
I'm not going to bother with turning ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING off in the future sessions though.

I got £1.35 which is 4x as much as the first session! We cut usage by 91%! We just went to bed for an hour and had a nap, it clearly worked 😂

Hugasauras · 28/11/2022 14:25

We saved 75%. Now on 4512 Octopoints (£5.64). This is a good challenge for us as we do a lot in the early evening time slots so are pretty high users then.

Hugasauras · 28/11/2022 14:25

We still had TV and PC on and lights etc.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 28/11/2022 14:44

We saved 95% were now on £6.59

HandbagsnGladrags · 28/11/2022 15:03

I got 43p last week - 45p the week before. I think they need to think of a way to make it more appealing for already low users at that time if they genuinely want to cut usage and reduce the risk of power cuts. It's not worth fucking around with candles and sitting in the dark for 45p FFS.

tribpot · 28/11/2022 15:07

66% for us, so a huge increase (or rather decrease) compared to last time. 1672 Octopoints to go mad with, £2.67 saved in total.

I don't know about a session tomorrow, can't see anything in the app. But the National Grid say there will be four tests in the first month, so I assume we will hear about another one soon.

poshme · 28/11/2022 15:14

So far I've got £4.20. The last session I saved 85%. I usually cook at that time, but just pushed it later.

I'm guessing that they're worried about tomorrow becuase they know there'll be a spike in demand at half time...

Flapjackquack · 28/11/2022 16:19

944 points here for the second session, £1 odd. Reduction of 75%. The two sessions so far have been at peak usage time for us though. This time we were reheated leftovers in the microwave so saved energy vs cooking from scratch.

Gufo · 28/11/2022 17:27

Nearly 4000 points and just under a fiver rewarded over two sessions - happy with that for the minimal effort needed.

gingercat02 · 28/11/2022 17:44

91% saving 10672 Octopoints. That's £14.76 total savings over the 2 sessions. Not bad but the family think I'm nuts

ilovebagpuss · 28/11/2022 17:45

Only saved 38p ! I suppose it just shows we don't use a lot at generally at that time. Seems a bit pointless though as an incentive as we did sit in the dark with nothing running for the hour.

Totally agree. It's only rewarding high users. I can't be arsed with it any more.

tribpot · 28/11/2022 17:56

National Grid have confirmed they aren't going to run a session tomorrow, but haven't updated their own Twitter feed and the network operators like Northern Powergrid have clearly been getting an increase in calls as they've tweeted to say basically 'nowt to do with us, guv'.

For low users, I can see how it's frustrating to do it for so little reward. It will probably be worth working out when your period of high usage is, and then opting in when there's a Saving Session scheduled for that time?

Flapjackquack · 28/11/2022 18:25

HandbagsnGladrags · 28/11/2022 17:52

It’s not about rewarding people, it’s about reducing energy usage at peak times so we don’t have to import electricity which is expensive. It’s cheaper to pay people to cut usage than buy energy.

We are actually low energy users on average but the sessions just happen to have been at peak time for us. Half our energy usage for a weekday is normally between 5-7pm so I guess it is aimed at getting people like us to spread out our usage.

HandbagsnGladrags · 28/11/2022 18:53

@Flapjackquack yeah I get that but the point I was making is that I CBA to sit in the dark for 45p!

Oh yeah I wouldn’t either, I was just saying the main point is not to reward people it’s to avoid rolling blackouts.

Fufumcgoo · 28/11/2022 19:52

How can I have done exactly the same as last time but saved 44% less?

Starting to think this is a rip

Diplobrat · 28/11/2022 19:56

I think I might win the tiniest number of points so far! 5p/40 points/35% reduction for the first, and a truly incredible 4p/32 points/22% reduction for the second (that's with an empty flat with the router and TV etc unplugged).

Ultimately we barely use any energy at the relevant time anyway (presumably the remainder is the fridge/boiler firing/mains wired fire alarm). Is it sad that I'm still having fun this?

Fufumcgoo · 28/11/2022 19:59

Yeah I think I've lost interest tbh.

The whole point was to encourage people to use less at peak times but its just not worth it for a couple of pence!

I earnt less for doing exactly the same as well. Possibly something to do with different average useage in the run up. Think people will get bored of this unless they make the incentive bigger.

Passportpondery · 28/11/2022 20:59

We were 34% this time and a risky of only £1.73 over the 2 sessions!
