Hmm she's still quite young isn't she? My mind has gone blank now you've asked! I can completely understand that it must be so difficult for you. I don't have a difficult baby to deal with and I struggle to find the energy to cook a lot of the time. How about butternut squash curry, cauliflower/broccoli cheese, lentil shepherds pie, veggie lasagne (I know these two aren't very quick), pasta in tomato sauce, roast veg and couscous? Sorry I'm not particularly helpful it's been a long time since I had a baby! Do you eat egg? Frittata might be good? Maybe post in the weaning topic?

Wolfcub · 09/01/2019 18:06

Brrrrr I am sat in the car at ds’s activity it is 3 degrees and falling. I have my big winter coat on. Hold up, glove bits on and a hot water bottle on my legs. I also have a contigo full of hot chocolate. Bless him he’s outside and he doesn’t even seem to notice it’s fit to freeze a brass monkey

AutumnLeaves12 · 09/01/2019 18:10

OMG Wreck that sounds like fantastically sophisticated dining. I want to come to your house to eat now. LOL!.

I was thinking more like maybe boil a carrot and then squish it with a fork until it's sorry.

AutumnLeaves12 · 09/01/2019 18:11

Is this baby rice the standard weaning goo?

www.cgbabyclub.co.uk/products/foods/4-6-months-breakfast/baby-rice.html

I think this is what I was fed on.

WreckTangled · 09/01/2019 18:13

Haha autumn I was thinking of things that meadow could eat that she could do extra for for dd. Saves any extra work. Also toast, crumpets, cheese on toast etc are all good things for munching on and quick and easy.

WreckTangled · 09/01/2019 18:14

Baby rice isn't recommended anymore as there's no nutrition in it really.

AutumnLeaves12 · 09/01/2019 18:22

LOL! I see what you mean. I don't think there was ever a time when I could make lasagne even without a baby.

I had such trouble weaning. People kept telling me to do baby led weaning with finger food, but ds didn't sit up until 8 months and so couldn't do it.

I asked the HV several times and she kept saying "Stomachs don't have teeth" and laughing at me. It was only after several months that she told me about purees. I didn't know that was a thing.

My best friend was doing vegetarian baby led weaning. I was so confused. Confused

There’s a good offer on topcashback, if you have a free trial of hayu streaming you get £9.

I’ve signed us both up and got £18. I’ll cancel at the end of the month.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 09/01/2019 18:27

meadow do you have a slow cooker? Then you can just chuck in a load of ingredients in the morning or when you have time. Things like casserole, curry, chilli, Bolognese. There's some great groups on Facebook with loads of ideas. Or when you have some spare time make a vat of basic tomato based sauce and freeze. so then you can just add to it when you are short of time. Could be base for chilli, Bolognese, shepherd's pie.

Things like fajitas are fairly quick - cook some vegetables/peppers/onions and quorn chunks if you eat it in fajita seasoning. Warm up wraps and serve with potato wedges and salad.

northender · 09/01/2019 18:38

Thanks for all your good wishes. Didn't feel the exam went well, but on reflection, don't think i said anything or missed anything out that would make them judge me unsafe to prescribe so as it's a pass/fail I'm hoping I'll be okay. Thessay has been submitted which I am less optimistic about, but again, haven't really got a benchmark. 2 weeks for the exam result, 4 for the portfolio & essay.
Feel shattered & a bit teary but have book group followed by cricket meeting so no time for self pity!
Frugal news today, friend has signed up to bulb so we get £100 credit each (& they've just reduced their prices).
Not ignoring others but will catch up properly later.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 09/01/2019 18:40

Meadow I used this book [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/Recipes-Babies-Toddlers-Children-Healthy/dp/1844830365/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=the+big+book+of+baby+recipe&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1547059087&sr=8-1s]] when dd was a baby, she was very like your dd (hard work!) and I liked this book as it was very simplistic!

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/01/2019 19:02

Oh North I hope it’s a pass. It’s not an easy subject to master when you don’t have a pharmacology or chemistry background.

Unescorted · 09/01/2019 19:13

wolf I just got some soya was to make some.. I will let you know what I think when I am done. I am a bit disappointed that they all say they only last a few months and then they can be composted. Being a skin flint I intend on boiling the wax out and re waxing. Melennial Instagramers need to learn the don't chuck it out until it cannot be salvaged....but then maybe they didn't do batik making at school because of the H&S aspects of pots of hot wax.

My resting face makes me look as if I am about to top myself.... I keep having people come up and ask if I am ok, do I want to talk about it and life is not that bad.

Today was a nsd. And I sorted out my season ticket loan which will give me 2 months free and I pay it back with pre tax income....so another 20% saving there.

North you've worked so hard I hope you pass Thanks

£6 something in Tesco topping up. That's been my only spend since I went food shopping Saturday 😇

ememem84 · 09/01/2019 19:20

BAby rice is rank anyway. I don’t know anyone who had a baby which liked it. Ds spat it out.

We just tended to give him bits of whatever we were eating. A fave for him is/was smushed baked beans. Although not smushed any more. And dhal.

I’ve just twigged what you mean by ITNG. Duh.

I am going to have to get some maternity clothes (May have said this already) trousers today are a bit snug.

I’ll go for a payg phone whatever happens. My current one I bought outright 4 years ago for around £500 direct from Apple.

Unescorted · 09/01/2019 19:21

north I get post exam doubts too. I am sure it is ok.

Meadow I did the boil and mash with a fork until it was sorry type of foods when the kids were weaning. It kind of worked and they are still alive. Of a fashion. If I did it again I would do things that you wouldn't necessarily think as an adult were particularly nice if they were puréed eg pasta and sauces, all vegetables, curry, etc.... My kids have really restricted palettes now and I am convinced it was because I couldn't bring myself to puree anything other than carrots and peas.

£6 on coffees

AutumnLeaves12 · 09/01/2019 19:37

Unescorted I love that post. "Of a fashion" ROFL. I'm sure they're fantastic.

AutumnLeaves12 · 09/01/2019 19:42

The thing I found out in the end was that early weaning foods are just there as an intro to swallowing mush, and then ever-so-slightly-lumpy food, and then slightly-lumpier-food, until eventually the toddler eats solids.

A nice HV told me that the real problems arise if the kid it still on puree at 18 months and not able to swallow lumps.

So as long you do that ever-so-very gradual introduction of lumps, and the baby gets her main nutrition from formula, then I think it's basically all okay at this age. Is that right? Confused

Wolfcub · 09/01/2019 19:42

North I am keeping my fingers crossed for you I am sure it is better than you think. I have some exams next month as part of a week long course and I am bricking it. Exams are not my thing

Unescorted Lakeland reckons they last 12 months and there was a tip on the comments that when they feel rough you can shove them in a hot oven for ten seconds to give them a bit more life. I quite enjoyed doing batik

Didn’t freeze in the car woo.

Have wrapped parcel to post

Freezer is still playing up so need to empty is as quickly as possible so I can defrost it. It seems to be having at least one attempt to defrost itself per day

H has let me down again. He was supposed to be having ds on Sunday for a few hours so I could go to friends 40th. He has now decided he can’t do it. Asshat. Ds is at scout camp the following weekend so if he doesn’t see him this week it’ll be three weeks for ds not seeing his dad which is just not fair and I will totally bear the brunt of it.

Happierwithouthim · 09/01/2019 19:45

Asshat for sure wolf

Happierwithouthim · 09/01/2019 19:48

€2.50 on cat food in centra
It's €2.25 in Aldi Sad

WreckTangled · 09/01/2019 19:51

Wolf what a arse. Ds doesn't deserve that.

Autumn purées aren't generally recommended anymore either. Fine for first tastes but once fully weaning foods need not be any more than mashed. Plus finger foods.

AutumnLeaves12 · 09/01/2019 20:01

Thanks Wreck that's good to know. It's so hard to get information on this stuff when juggling a difficult baby, as Meadow is.

Is that dependent on whether the baby can sit up securely? My ds didn't sit up until 8 months, which really altered things.

Meadow does your baby sit unsupported?

LonelyOversharer · 09/01/2019 20:02

wolf sigh. Is this because you were going out? Ds does know that this is his fault and not yours doesn't he?

So today I spent £49 in the post office. But £19 of that was postage (already paid by buyers) and I took out £30 cash for all the little bitty things this week. So I actually only spent £3 real money on sickers and big hula hoops.

Fwiw I always thought that potty training was a "physical" thing like a baby rolling over. They can only do it when the nerve signal works properly between bladder and brain. Ds wasn't dry (daytime) until just after 3. We did away with the "night time pants" about six months ago now, he is 6.5. Until then he was weeing in the night, quite freely. Just suddenly, he wasn't anymore. The girls were different, but in this respect, I think girls are (huge generalisation, based on my own sample size of 3).

Stomachs do not have teeth (Hmm ffs), but we come equipped with quite fit for purpose digestive systems ...who knew.
