Now that I've put that in the title, we will almost certainly get snow. LOL!

Welcome to nearly-August.

Phew. Just got back from a holiday shopping trip with the boys. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, I went though their wardrobes to see what they had and what they needed so that I didn’t go mad buying stuff. Shattered now tho!

For the record, I imagine a praying mantis to have a cut glass British accent.

WreckTangled · 01/08/2018 15:49

I just got home with my Tesco click and collect order and loads of it is missing SadAngrySadAngry I'm so annoyed. It's a forty mile round trip so I can't go back and get it. They've refunded it and given me a £5 shitty gesture of goodwill.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 01/08/2018 16:08

Hi everyone, is it ok if I join please? I have been lurking for ages and you all seem super nice!

Cag the poundshop sometimes has small glass chopping boards, I got 3 from there a number of years ago and they are still going strong

BestFootForwardAndThenSome · 01/08/2018 16:21

Gosh, animal language is much more complicated than I thought. :-)

That's hilarious about the dog.

One of my friends bought a horse a few years ago, and the owner didn't tell her that the horse had been taught all the wrong commands. The horse had been taught that if both of the reigns were pulled backwards then it should run faster and if one reign was pulled to the side it should stop. I think that it was steered with the feet only. My friend nearly finished herself off several times before she figured it out. Shock

We also chat to our cats, they have personalities but we don't give them voices.... must rectify that! Dh will think ive gone mad 😂 One of my cats has the same colouring as yours scandi

Nits are horrid. Mine have been scratching so going to do them and me tonight. 😣

Spent £5 on reduced trainers for dd1 (hers had a hole in). £7 in co op and £19 in Tesco.

Next 2 days will be spendy as we are staying in a Travelodge and going to legoland 😁

ememem84 · 01/08/2018 16:38

sunny I’ve ridden a horse which had been trained to slow down if you held both reins up. Which is the most unnatural thing especially if horse is going full pelt. The last thing you want to do is lift both arms up!!

My instructor currently has a horse at the stables which has been trained to drop a shoulder and spin once it lands after a jump. We both learned this the hard way.

She’s having to break him down and retrain. He’s a nightmare.

BestFootForwardAndThenSome · 01/08/2018 16:54

Em That sounds really tricky. I once went out jumping on a very short sighted horse that insisted on jumping three feet in air over twigs. That was tricky too.

Why has everybody got nits? Is this something that you get from having daughters with long hair? My ds has never had them, which is good because he loathes having his hair washed. Maybe it doesn't happen to boys with very short hair though?

SnugglySnerd · 01/08/2018 16:54

Welcome Curvy. Are you sure you can put up with the crazy cat talk and nits?! We sometimes actually talk about saving money too! Grin

SnugglySnerd · 01/08/2018 16:55

Ds has them too Sunny presumably caught from me his sister.

WreckTangled · 01/08/2018 16:57

It's definitely more prominent in girls. They tend to hug each other and stuff though. Dd has only ever had them once and that was recently so I think we're pretty lucky.

SnugglySnerd · 01/08/2018 17:01

There do seem to be a lot of them about at the moment? Is it to do with the hot weather?

BestFootForwardAndThenSome · 01/08/2018 17:12

Wreck That must be what it is. The hugging is definitely not a thing among the boys in our playground. I never had nits as a child, and I definitely never hugged anyone either.

I had an actual NSD yesterday btw. Clearly the answer is to have the flu badly enough to be incapable of online shopping.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/08/2018 17:32

My friend told me her son had been wearing a baseball cap all summer and the nits must have been multiplying like mad underneath it!! My dd isn't keen on showers or hair washing either but now she is 12 yo it's non negotiable, greasy hair and smelly pits is not a good look!!

Work was super busy again, am so ready for this week to be over. Dd has enjoyed her holiday club so that's been good (worth the extortionate cost!! )

Lsd £1 on a drink.
We had a reply at work who bought tons of food in so made the most of that 😉

ememem84 · 01/08/2018 17:41

I don’t have nits. And I have naice long hair. Think hair like Megan markles lies my hairs long thick and has zero bounce

LonelyOversharer · 01/08/2018 17:55

I mimic my cat, but it's clear he's often swearing at us. We call him "Von Klinkerhoffen" so you can guess his accent! His real name is Clive though.

cag preying mantis live 2 years, tops. We only found this out after buying an adult for dd3 Sad

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 01/08/2018 18:18

Ahh Snuggly we also have a cat, I've got four kids so have had to deal with nits before now, so think I will fit right in Grin

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 18:46

Aw I know they don't live long, my friend has some. It won't bother me so much, and the kids don't want one anyway. This pet would be MINE! 😍 They are stunning creatures. It's funny, I was terrified of all creepy crawly type things my whole life until DD had an animal party and I asked the lady to put a Madagascan hissing cockroach on my hand while I looked the other way. I then realised it was actually kinda cute! But mantids... Aaaah they are all kinds of gorgeous.

ememem84 · 01/08/2018 18:48

Catface waits for us on the windowsill overlooking the carpark. She’s done thisfor as long as we’ve had her. While I was on mat leave she’d go sit there at 545 every day and wait. Despite the fact I was home.

She then meows until we open the door. And tries to trip us up until we feed her. This evening was no exception “mother. You’ve been home for 3 seconds innit. Where’s me biscuits bruv” and “alright guvnor” to dh. She’s more like a Bert the chimney sweep accent gangsta.

She’s done the biggest whineist meow. Because Ds crawled to her bowl of biscuits. I rescued said biscuits. But I know she’s going to leave us a bad review on trip advisor....

Cagliostro · 01/08/2018 18:49

Not that I wouldn't be sad to lose a pet obviously I'm not a totally stone cold bitch 😳😂 but I mean I can handle knowing its life expectancy IYSWIM.

I will definitely look in pound shops for chopping boards then, thanks! It just annoys me that I can't submerge the full board in the sink, so I want a smaller one. Now we've moved it is time to actually get things I like that make life easier rather than thinking what's the point.

I am getting awfully confused by my lovely oven. How's that for first world problems. At least I got the second bit working this time, Mac n cheese looking lovely, DS helped make it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/08/2018 19:13

You can get microchip controlled food bowls that only open for the cats chip Em. It will stop the cat being upset & the baby snacking on purina one.

Hi Curvy.

£10 petrol.

Our cats always outraged at bedtime when I scoop him off our bed and take him down to the kitchen, swears blind every night this has never happened before.

Wolfcub · 01/08/2018 19:22

Back in Blighty. Just catching up with EWFL and will then catch up with the thread

ChristmasSeacow · 01/08/2018 19:34

welcome Curvy

Glass boards will blunt your knives much quicker than wood or plastic Cag, they’re not really meant to be used as chopping boards, though plenty of people do use them for that. Just a footnote! Glad you are still so excited about the house and feeling the difference, your picnic sounds fab.

I was thinking there must be lots of lurkers buying yarn too 😂. I checked out the lovely Petrol colour Lonely and it was already sold out. Probably just as well. I’m going to be waiting weeks to see my linen stuff as it is.

I had a very frustrating evening of knitting yesterday because I moved onto the main body of the back of the dress, which comprises about 8 different cable knit panels, all charted separately. So lots of flicking back and forth across a 7-page pattern and swearing. I hope it gets more fun soon AngryGrin

We’ve had another long but lovely day. Went down towards Fort William and visited the commandos’ memorial, Inverlochy castle (a ruin where we had the most scenic picnic lunch ever) , the Caledonian canal (Neptune’s steps) and the beautiful viaduct they film for the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films (see pic). And a couple of other small diversions en route. Driving down the west side of Loch Ness is incredibly beautiful but I am shattered now! DH paid for a round of tea and cakes, about £12, because we needed a loo stop but otherwise we stuck to our picnics. I have invented a really good sandwich: wholemeal bread, lightly buttered (just to make the filling stick) and then sliced cheddar, chorizo and Worcester sauce crisps. Crunchy and delicious Grin.

Gross, I just remembered I had a dream last night I was staying in a b & b riddled with crabs. Great big huge ones you see at the beach. I am sure it was the nit-combing that caused it.

Been to wildlife park today. £58 but absolutely brilliant day so worth it. Took a packed lunch and purposely avoided the burger bar (DH's weakness.)

Exciting news about the film sunny.
