Quiet I am exactly like that with tapping, jiggling, noise it puts me right on edge. I also have problems with multiple noises so I have real trouble at work if someone is talking to me I can hear their noise but not their words because there is too much background

Wolfcub · 08/07/2018 11:26

I have spent an hour in the garden pruning and dead heading all the roses as they have suffered so much in the heat. As a result the chimenea is full of things to burn and my hands look like colanders.

I am funny about smell, particularly since pregnancy, but not about taste. Quiet my dh was the same, no music but loud tv and a complete inability to sit stand or lie still. Ds is the same. He can’t speak without dancing around. I am a very still person and it does my head in

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 08/07/2018 11:33

I think most people have some sensory issues they are only a problem is they start interfering with every day life iyswim? I don't like a lot of noise and have a few other issues with things like skin picking but it's manageable. Dd has SPD and struggles with lots of things that do impact on her day to day life.

We are too hot to do anything 😓 wanted to go on a bike ride but it's too hot, am trying to think of somewhere to go to cool down that wouldn't be stupidly busy....

Wolfcub · 08/07/2018 11:36

Girlfriend do you have one of those indoor ski places near you? Perhaps an hour sledging ?

Loveabaconsandwich · 08/07/2018 11:45

Cinema with air con girlie? It used to be so quiet on sunny days when I worked at one as a student

QuiteCleanBandit · 08/07/2018 11:49

Well I never !
DH came in and I showed him the Adult SPD checklist .
I am undoubtedly hypersensitive-so many things on there its like they have met me!
Extreme travel sickness-never even thought about it but crikey I have had such stick about it in the past!
DH is of course at the opposite end of the scale -again its like they have met him.
We laughed and will carry on as we are-good that its clearer to him I cant help it.
Work wise I work in a small office and can wear headphones and come and go as I please.
Thanks Sunny and Girlie this has been really helpful.
Will carry on avoiding crowds peopleas per usual Grin

SnugglySnerd · 08/07/2018 11:50

Hope Cag and Sunny you are feeling a bit better today.

I've been on it this morning. Had made and eaten pancakes, prepped lunch, got dinner in the slow cooker and been to the park for an hour by 10 am. I was up at 5.30 though.

Christmas I've pm'd you about something. I hope you don't mind.

ChristmasSeacow · 08/07/2018 11:56

Hi Snuggly, just seen it. Am at the school fete but will reply later!

QuiteCleanBandit · 08/07/2018 12:04

Girlie
I just went out and it was like walking into furnace .
There are large floppy cats huffing and lying pressed onto the floor .
I cant face the heat of going anywhere to cool down so cowering indoors with the fans on.

WreckTangled · 08/07/2018 12:09

We've got a breeze here. It's 30 degrees but lovely in the shade and not too bad in the sun. I like the heat though.

Bandit I think you're quite right. You only need to do anything if it stops you getting on and doing the things you enjoy. I think that a diagnosis is only given if the sensory stuff is actually getting in the way of your living your life, so if it isn't, then you're not classed as ASD, iyswim.

My dh and I are both quite sensitive so we are happy to live in a noise-free, smell-free house together. Smile I'm taking action because my sensitivity to taste makes eating difficult, and I have a lot of food intolerance, which needs fixing. It came on post-natally, so could be anything, but this avenue seems worth a try.

QuiteCleanBandit · 08/07/2018 12:39

It did cause me severe distress in the past Sunny
When DC were little I realised I had to do something or they would be isolated
Ie have friends round/parties/ attend school social events
Looking back those years were absolute hell but I did it but didnt cope in a very healthy way .
Im so much better now I dont have to do it -I dont look forward to DC friends coming round but I cope and its ok.
I dont dont do crowds/ parties/work dos/festivals/gigs /theme parks/spa days blech but it doesnt cause much of an issue .
I can do shopping /meals out /days out as long as its not crowded .
DH has significant issues with food Sunny but has made huge strides by gradually being exposed to stuff by me cooking and eventually trying things.
No pressure or forcing at all.
I hope you get the support you need Smile

My pre baby beach checklist was thus:

  • bikini
  • towel
  • book
  • rash vest
  • paddleboard/surf board.

Post baby...?!

  • bikini
  • towels (I’m taking 4 plus ds’ hooded towel)
  • beach mat
  • beach tent
  • baby swim/sun suit (s)
  • hat (s)
  • factor a million sunscreen
  • milky
  • snacks (watermelon and mango)
  • frozen icy water bottle for all three of us
  • changing bag
  • toys
  • gel pad thing (it’s for catface but she doesn’t like it and it cools - perfect to lie ds on in the tent if he gets too hot)
  • paddleboard
  • swim nappies

Luckily the beach were going to had enough space for all of our stuff. And it’s one of dparents faves. So they will be there today. With their wind breaker and umbrella. So I don’t have to pack those!! Also dfriends parents live right opposite and I’ve text to ask if we can park on their driveway. So we don’t have to park in the carpark and lug everything down the road!

SunnyLikeThursday · 08/07/2018 12:43

Bandit yes I know just what you mean. I found the business of getting playdates particularly tricky because in pre-school years it meant that both parents and both children had to be compatible, which could be really tricky. Glad you're doing better now.

QuiteCleanBandit · 08/07/2018 12:44

Erm em you forgot 3 changes of clothes for DS - juuuust in case !
I once forgot any and had stripped off swimwear and DS had dropped all the towels in the sea .
Have you ever tried getting DC back into wet swimwear -yep NO !
So had to take 247 millions things up the beach plus drive home naked children Blush

QuiteCleanBandit · 08/07/2018 12:46

Thanks Sunny
I know exactly what you mean Wink

Wolfcub · 08/07/2018 12:50

Ffs just found and buried one of ds’s hamsters. He is going to be upset when he gets home.

Flappyjack · 08/07/2018 13:04

em don't forget the talc like we did yesterday. Sandy toes were an issue.

Nsd.

We're about to hit the end of the thread. Anybody feeling creative?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/credit_crunch/3300493-The-Friendly-Frugaleers-joyfully-saving-through-July?watched=1 Not a very inventive title I’m afraid.
