God how utterly depressing that International Day involves England shirts Hmm
I feel I am alone in despising "popular culture"
Very poor imagination from the HT !
Our primary school did this and DC went in National costume or Kings/Queens/National figures .

WreckTangled · 07/07/2018 10:14

Sunny it's an additional job I've got.

SunnyLikeThursday · 07/07/2018 10:23

Bandit That's what I thought. I might go and ask him if he's really thought that through. I suspect the little boys will remember who did, and who did not come in and England shirt, and I'm not sure I'd want to be on either side of that line.

Wreck Sounds great fun. Smile

I'm still sitting here reading crap on the internet and not spending money.

QuiteCleanBandit · 07/07/2018 10:37

My DS would refuse point blank to wear a football shirt !
I would send DS as David Attenborough 😂
Khaki shirt and shirts and some animals Grin
Mind you I love making things !
I always told mine not to be afraid to be themselves but I get what you mean DD has a very brief period of pink and glitteryshite but got bored very quickly .
Its the lack of imagination
Who are you Fred ?-An England playerHmm
Who are you Henry ?- Winston Churchill
Aaah tell who he was etc.
Im getting old I think !

Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 11:04

I hear ya! I used to despair at all the princess/superhero dress up too. I am that parent. Not that I was any good at making costumes though, I made an effort approximately ONCE.

I don’t miss all the random (and often extremely short notice) requests for various “wear this” days. Sometimes an extra few quid for a yellow t-shirt or whatever was enough to cause a strain financially.

DD has gone off on the bus to ballroom on her own today! We are going to meet her after though. DH wouldn’t have let her. He has slightly more helicoptery tendencies than I do. But she has her phone (has already texted to say she’s there) and the main road has proper lights now, I used to hate crossing there (extremely busy T) but it’s safe now.

Thanks, that's good to know that you think the football shirt thing is odd too. I'll have a think and try to come up with something else suitable. No idea what, mind you.

ChristmasSeacow · 07/07/2018 11:25

DS’s school (very mixed) had a heritage day in the autumn, where they were asked to dress in something that reflects their heritage. DS doesn’t do fancy dress so we sent him in a Dr Who t shirt Grin. Which I had to buy specially but to be fair he now wears it a lot for DH’s benefit, since DS has no idea who Dr Who is

Melting here already. I need to make some cakes for the school fete but am dreading putting the oven on. Then we’re off to see friends for a barbecue. It’s about 45 mins drive away but I am excited to bask in the car’s aircon for that long - winner!

Just spent another £40 in Sainsbury’s, on top of Ocado yesterday, because I forgot milk and a couple of things we’re missing. And we needed beer for the football and naice flowers for our hosts today.

I am not much bothered about the football. But I like that it makes other people happy.

Enjoy he sunny weekend!

Wolfcub · 07/07/2018 12:05

I’m clearing out the living room ready for decorating whilst we are on holiday. This effectively means removing all of dh’s games, models, unopened bank letters, ancient mobile phones etc. I have come across lots of photos which have been bittersweet and I’m moving things into dh’s loft which I have been in about three tomes in 12 years. It’s grim. I found a coffee mug and pint glass with their own habitats growing in them and it is absolutely filthy. It’s also hot as hell and a bastard to club up into with heavy bags. I’m just going to move everything in there until he’s in a position to collect it!

LonelyOversharer · 07/07/2018 12:20

Here sunny £6 tesco. If it's a one off jobby. They will all have cheapy world cup stock in. I would not want my dc at a school where you would get remembered and picked on for not wearing a fucking stupid footbal shirt. Swearer here too! Luckily our new and very nice headmaster has totally shied away from dress up days! I boycott them on principal usually. Football day turned into sportskit day, which morphed into any shorts and t-shirt day. In the end half the kids were in uniform.

mammy unless he or his wife read this thread, then no. Tbh I don't think they think of me like ever. Not seen his dc for 7.5yrs now. Lives on the other side of the planet.

Posted the 7 things sold on ebay this week. About £30 in, so nothing huge. Spent £13 on postage, covered by buyers.

I am wearing my short shorts today. After some of the bums and legs I've seen this week there is no reason not too. I care not. This is a big mindshift for me, usually I'm usually very self conscious. But honestly, no one is looking at me.

The Friendly Frugaleers, halfway through June!
LonelyOversharer · 07/07/2018 12:23

seacow that is exactly my stance on football. It's not my cup of tea, but if it get others going, good for them! Tour de France starts today.

QuiteCleanBandit · 07/07/2018 12:27

My main issue is all the bloody talking endlessly about it plus if England lose rates of DV jump by nearly 40%Hmm

Cag I hear ya Wink
I got clever and would just buy cheap dyes and just shove the crappiest white shirt in the machine .
Ding- yellow/blue/green tshirt .
Also Im quite good at sewing etc so I love chopping things up Grin

Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 13:07

A lot of those posts on FB don’t mention that DV rises almost as much if England win anyway. Violent men will find the flimsiest of excuses.

I am a fairweather football fan, I watch a bit in tournaments like this but that’s it.

Lonely that is the kind of school DD left. It’s all very “haves vs have nots” and a lot of the bullying that goes on there (according to families who have been through or are still at the school) is status based. That has never affected my two (obliviously quirky) really, but I am very glad to be moving from this part of town, the snobbery continues in the park.

unescorted cheeky chops 😜
ememem84 ha ha. I'm a bit of a foul mouth too although mostly while driving.

I might watch the footie if I can wrestle DS1 off the Xbox in the living room.

£8.60 coffees and ice creams at the beach.
£2 parking (though I parked free for two hrs then moved the car)

We went to the Lido pool and sprinklers, then onto the beach where DS's jumped over waves and built sandcastles. DM bought us fish and chips on the way home. Am officiqlly pooped.

ememem84 · 07/07/2018 15:09

£30 riding and £19 Waitrose on lunch and snacks. Dparents are at the beach. Ds is napping in his travel cot and dh is watching football on their tv. I’m in the garden with a icy cold lemon squash and some pop chips and humous which I can’t bloody enjoy because of the effing seagulls. Eff off.

Wolfcub · 07/07/2018 15:20

Ds’s event done. £1 entry and £5 ice creams. I’m not watching the football with some cider. Will carry on the horrid hot packing job when the match is done although I have some washing to sling out at half time

WreckTangled · 07/07/2018 16:35

So many people walking past with their dogs Shock it's 31 degrees outside I can only imagine how hot the pavement is

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/07/2018 16:54

£5petrol
£7.50 to get into renishaw gardens, well worth it. Took a picnic.
£6 Tesco milk, eggs, chips.

Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 16:56

Well that was the worst time for the TV signal not to work AND the iplayer live to fail!!! I got properly into that :o

I'm meant to be at exciting concert #3 tonight and instead I'm in bed with the gut lurgy. Gosh darn it. Must think of something good to do with the time so it's not a big useless waste.

I have all the windows open and can hear lots of cheers coming from all of the neighbours' houses. Smile

Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 19:20

Oh no sunny :(

I have been in a sorry state since collecting DD at midday. It is just too fucking hot and the dizziness is epic.

Need to hobble to the kitchen to put a wash on as DD needs her ballet stuff again for tomorrow (open day thing, thankfully it’s a short bus ride away)

Also, not that I’m enabling anyone, but topcashback is doing 19.66% on justeat... make of that what you will!

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 07/07/2018 19:22

Cag that’s definitely enabling and if I didn’t already have a very easy tea in the fridge that would be persuading me.

Sunny sorry you had to miss your concert. Hopefully you will start to feel better soon.

WreckTangled · 07/07/2018 19:27

We're at a bbq. Have scored a jar of dh's uncles awesome hot tomato chutney. Food is good.

The Friendly Frugaleers, halfway through June!
CremeEggThief · 07/07/2018 19:40

Sorry to hear that, Sunny. I hope you feel better soon.

Approximately £26 spent today, mostly on some shorts and a sun hat for DS, in Asda.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 07/07/2018 20:02

We had a great time at a family bbq watching the football, so exciting games that we won!! Watching the Russia game now.

Spent £6 on snacks to take to bbq.
£10 on gift for my friend.

I don't like the adverts for DV and football as well, it just paints women as poor victims which makes me feel uncomfortable.
