Happy birthday lonely DS

Wolfcub · 10/06/2018 12:21

Wreck that sounds great

£11 breakfast apparently discount card not valid for breakfast items
£61 primark but need to take back a pair of tracksuit bottoms I accidentally bought on the wrong size and a tshirt that is an inch bigger all round than others the same size. Whole shop bar those two things put in the wash and then they will be put away ready to pack when ds is away with school in a couple of weeks

WreckTangled · 10/06/2018 13:02

Home for lunch now so nsd today.

Have been awol for a few days, trying to catch up.
Fluffy I really resent having to pay more than we need to energy companies . Good luck with your energy economising.
Sea sounds like you did an amazing job at the funeral, what an emotional day. Hope dh's back improves quickly. Does he have any pain radiating into either leg?
Creme that energy charge is fantastic Envy
Tayto yes, ds is 16 (17 in September). He's going to do A Levels at college hopefully & then a year in NZ playing cricket while he decides what he wants to do next. He'll have to fund that himself though so he needs to start saving....

The last few days have been a bit of a roller coaster here, hence my absence. Ds finished school on Wednesday but didn't say much about it to us. The morning after, I found his signed school shirt in his room with something really nasty written on it in big letters on the back. It relates to (for those who remember it) the incident 2 years ago where a girl at school made some false allegations about him. School handled it very badly and it was everywhere on social media. So it has now come out that since then he has been called names on a very regular basis but hasn't told us Sad. I feel sad for him and angry in equal measure. Fortunately he has a good group of close friends, his cricket means he has a really happy, fulfilling world out of school and he is looking forward to college and expanding his network of friends. I just feel I can't comprehend what he has been through in the past 2 years in terms of his physical and mental health and actually am amazed at his strength & stoicism in dealing with it. Children and teens can be so cruel, boys just as much as girls & some of it I'm sure is jealousy as he has always been one of those kids who is good at sport, bright academically with a really lovely easy going nature.

Sorry for the long tale but it helps to let it out. When I was really upset on Thursday, I was going to start a thread namechanging & asking for advice on dealing with it, but actually just talking to people on here who I feel I know is better.

The other side of the rollercoaster is his exams on Thursday and Friday which were 2 of the best yet, he felt, so that's good & then yesterday he scored his first 50 in senior cricket which he was so happy about. He was really made a fuss of by lots of the much older players who he looks up to so came home feeling 10 feet tall.
Dd had her latest drama exam yesterday which was musical theatre & she felt went really well. 6 weeks until we get the result.

In frugal news, a friend brought round 3 bin bags of her daughter's old clothes for dd to try. She has had a fab time trying them on and has kept about a third I'd say. Our combination oven wasn't working properly & it cost £150 to repair. It cost a lot more than that 10 years ago though & is the first time it has needed repairing so not too bad I think. Need to meal plan now for the week ahead (last week of exams...Yaaay!!). Will post that later on.

WreckTangled · 10/06/2018 13:09

North your poor ds Sad I remember when it happened. College will be a fresh start for him.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2018 13:26

Poor little thing north, are any of those kids going to the same college?. NZ will be wonderful for him.

Dh is trying to fit his bike rack to his car, the one to go on his car is £500 so he’s loosening spoilers & things.

Wolfcub · 10/06/2018 14:11

North poor ds that’s an awful thing for someone to do on his last day. I hope the little sod that did it is not going to the same college. A year overseas playing cricket sounds amazing. I’ve had an hour reading in th garden and have an ever growing crop of freckles to show for it. All the washing is out and ds and I are settling down to watch a film for a bit

QuiteCleanBandit · 10/06/2018 14:17

Tennis and tea/knitting here
Vamos! Rafa Grin🎾

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 10/06/2018 14:41

north that is bloody awful, why do kids/people have to be so horrible? ! That's brilliant he is resilient enough to deal with it, I keep telling dd school isn't forever and when she leaves she never has to see the horrible kids again.

I can't have anything with hormones in as it sends my anxiety through the roof and gives me constant nausea. I have bought some reusable pads to try though....

Busy morning here, cajoled dd into a run but her knee is playing up so didn't go far. Have given the bathroom and proper deep clean as it was looking grim and been to aldi, the fun never stops 😉

£50 in aldi which I'm happy with as got loads, at least 10 days worth of food.

Loveabaconsandwich · 10/06/2018 14:54

Your poor DS north. He has great plans ahead for him. Hope college is a better experience for him and school will be a distant memory soon. He sounds remarkably resilient though.

NSD

I've got a day off tomorrow, child free, but a growing list of places to go/buy stuff from.

We've been busy getting DD1s room ready for her new carpet being fitted on Tuesday. So much junk to shift!

Taytocrisps · 10/06/2018 15:02

north you must have been so shocked and upset when you found the shirt Sad. What a horrible thing to happen on his last day! And from what you've now discovered, it wasn't a once off event but the perpetrators have been calling him names over the past two years. I'm glad he got through his exams ok and I'm glad he's moving onto college and leaving them all behind (at least, I hope he is). The year in NZ sounds amazing.

Btw I'm a little bit confused. In Ireland going to college means moving on to third level education. So college and university are the same thing. But I think (based on your post) that your DS is planning to continue with his second level education but at a college rather than his current school?

Cag moving house is massively stressful and I've only done it twice myself. I really hope that this is my forever home because the prospect of packing up and moving again fills me with dread. And my other house moves were pre-DD so it would be even harder now.

We had a nice barbecue yesterday. MIL and FIL joined us. I'm glad we took advantage of the sunshine because it's very overcast today. I'm taking DD to Dublin tomorrow for some shopping. She wants to get a playsuit/jumpsuit of some description and maybe some tops. We've agreed that I'll pay for the playsuit and she'll pay for the tops herself. MIL and FIL are very generous and give her some pocket money every time they see her. DH also paid her for a job he wanted done, so she's fairly flush atm.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2018 15:27

NSD.

Still waiting for my Shoeaholics refund of £23, they reckon hermes returns takes two weeks.

CremeEggThief · 10/06/2018 15:53

College is an alternative to 6th form at school or for vocational courses in the UK, Tayto. So, either final 2 years of school or further education rather than higher education/third level.

Sorry to hear that news about your DS, North. However, there are far more positives than negatives in your post. I wish my DS who is a year younger had more of your DS's positive attitude.

NSD yesterday and so far, today.

northender · 10/06/2018 17:50

Thank you for all your lovely words & thank you for just reading my post, it means a lot. Ds feels that at college (between school & Uni as creme says tayto) he will be able to move on as there will be so many people there that it will all be diluted or hopefully forgotten. I hope he does decide to do the NZ year & then gets on & saves up for it as I think it will be fabulous for him and enable us to visit while he's there. A relative worked out there for 2 years in a coaching role with a club and he still has lots of contacts so it would be relatively straightforward to set up. It's helping that there are positives to focus on.

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/06/2018 18:24

North, sorry to read about your DS. Kids can be little shits at times. Yes college and NZ can be new starts for him.

£3.50 skatepark fees for DS. That's it today

WreckTangled · 10/06/2018 18:35

Had bbq'd hot dogs for dinner and a couple coronas. Was a lovely afternoon the dc also ate really well (all of their salad!). Shame it's back to work tomorrow 🙄

Cagliostro · 10/06/2018 19:14

I went to an impromptu bbq today. Haven’t for years. Maybe next year we can get one! Again probably won’t this year as so much else to do/buy. But it was so lovely sitting in neighbour’s garden thinking this could be us next year! We will definitely try and get some garden furniture ASAP as just sitting outside for a meal will be awesome.

I feel a bit more positive today having got a little decluttering done and I also started writing things in the Moving Notebook. Not necessarily the most important things but it was good to get some bits out of my head.

Thank you all for being so lovely and listening to my endless rants 💐

North your DS really has had a tough time! He sounds like a great lad.

WreckTangled · 10/06/2018 20:42

Not a nsd. Just booked tickets to see Me and My Girl at the theatre. £10 for my ticket, such a bargain.

northender · 10/06/2018 21:05

Wreck thaqt sounds like a bargain price for the tickets
Cag glad you're having a better day, moving is stressful, rant away!!
Lots of barbeques going on today by the sound of it.
We had home made pizzas for tea.
Mon Chicken fajitas
Tues Quiche & slad
Wed Creamy beef curry
Thurs Toad in the hole

Haven't planned any further yet.

ememem84 · 10/06/2018 21:16

Rant away cag

north poor ds

Today I’ve spent mostly lying down/curled up on the couch/eating. So it’s been a nice day.

Ds had a mammoth 2.5hr nap this afternoon and I vegged on the couch and watched season two of 13 reasons why. Stupid Hannah still irritates the shit out of me (Dh eyerolled at my choice of show - suicidal teen angst probably not the best choice...)

But nice day. Restful which after the busy few weeks weve had was probably well deserved.

Dinner with dparents and dsis. Slow roasted lamb. Yum. Dsis tried to teach ds to tidy up his toys. She was encouraging him to drop them back in the box. Towards the end he realised if he did it we all clapped and went “yaaaaaaaasay” so he clapped and shrieked.

She also bought him the most annoying ridiculous toy. It’s a ball. With knobbly monsters. Which vibrates. And jiggles. And giggles. It’s hilarious. But so freaking annoying. That stayed at my parents. #grandparentshavethebesttoys

Extra large pineapples are 49p in tescos, green jinn app have 40p cashback 🍍

SunnyLikeThursday · 11/06/2018 07:04

em I wish my baby time had been more like yours. the word vegging never crossed my lips until ds started school, and not really then either.

Cagliostro · 11/06/2018 07:09

You’ll have to make up for it now then sunny 💐😴

Counting down the hours here. 🏡 Excited, nervous etc but also feeling slightly better than normal as Cagletini actually slept through the night, whoop.

I shall update you all later! 😀

QuiteCleanBandit · 11/06/2018 07:19

SunnyI dont think constantly comparing yourself to others is particularly helpful.
We are all individuals with completely different DC.

Hope everyone has a nice day
Should be NSD today

WreckTangled · 11/06/2018 07:28

Yes north they're front row seats too! Albeit to the side. Should be a good night, the theatre is lovely and it has some famous faces in it.

Today should be a nsd, although I might have to top up the childcare account. Blah.

Had to wake ds this morning, he wasn't happy. He fell out of bed last night.
