Have been awol for a few days, trying to catch up.
Fluffy I really resent having to pay more than we need to energy companies . Good luck with your energy economising.
Sea sounds like you did an amazing job at the funeral, what an emotional day. Hope dh's back improves quickly. Does he have any pain radiating into either leg?
Creme that energy charge is fantastic
Tayto yes, ds is 16 (17 in September). He's going to do A Levels at college hopefully & then a year in NZ playing cricket while he decides what he wants to do next. He'll have to fund that himself though so he needs to start saving....
The last few days have been a bit of a roller coaster here, hence my absence. Ds finished school on Wednesday but didn't say much about it to us. The morning after, I found his signed school shirt in his room with something really nasty written on it in big letters on the back. It relates to (for those who remember it) the incident 2 years ago where a girl at school made some false allegations about him. School handled it very badly and it was everywhere on social media. So it has now come out that since then he has been called names on a very regular basis but hasn't told us
. I feel sad for him and angry in equal measure. Fortunately he has a good group of close friends, his cricket means he has a really happy, fulfilling world out of school and he is looking forward to college and expanding his network of friends. I just feel I can't comprehend what he has been through in the past 2 years in terms of his physical and mental health and actually am amazed at his strength & stoicism in dealing with it. Children and teens can be so cruel, boys just as much as girls & some of it I'm sure is jealousy as he has always been one of those kids who is good at sport, bright academically with a really lovely easy going nature.
Sorry for the long tale but it helps to let it out. When I was really upset on Thursday, I was going to start a thread namechanging & asking for advice on dealing with it, but actually just talking to people on here who I feel I know is better.
The other side of the rollercoaster is his exams on Thursday and Friday which were 2 of the best yet, he felt, so that's good & then yesterday he scored his first 50 in senior cricket which he was so happy about. He was really made a fuss of by lots of the much older players who he looks up to so came home feeling 10 feet tall.
Dd had her latest drama exam yesterday which was musical theatre & she felt went really well. 6 weeks until we get the result.
In frugal news, a friend brought round 3 bin bags of her daughter's old clothes for dd to try. She has had a fab time trying them on and has kept about a third I'd say. Our combination oven wasn't working properly & it cost £150 to repair. It cost a lot more than that 10 years ago though & is the first time it has needed repairing so not too bad I think. Need to meal plan now for the week ahead (last week of exams...Yaaay!!). Will post that later on.
