Thinking of you today sea

Father's day is always a bit of an non event here as well, think it reminds dd of her absent father. That said we had a nice day at a NT place, I treated myself to two plants £12 as a fathers day gift to myself 😉 my dad liked the bits we got him (v frugal - some posh green tea from aldi, a charity shop book and some bulbs total cost £4) going to spend some time in the garden now.

I'm taking a neighbour to a concert tonight, which is pretty exciting. This is concert #2, and will officially be my second night out in 8 years. high living. I shouldn't be nervous about going, but I have special skills in that area.

Loveabaconsandwich · 17/06/2018 18:46

Have a great evening sunny

QuiteCleanBandit · 17/06/2018 18:51

Oh Sunny I thought you meant you had 3 DF !😂
Hope you have a lovely time -whats the concert ?

LonelyOversharer · 17/06/2018 19:43

We had mil for lunch. She brought her bearwolf (huuuge gsd) but he doesn't come in the house would eat us all. Popped to sainsburys for soft fruit and buttermilk, £6.30. But got a 600 coupon at the till, plus a 5x points voucher. Will bulk buy catfood to acrew more nectar points next week.

Oh, and I'm not buying buttermilk again (we use it to tenderise the chicken for our fake kfc), as I googled, and you add 2tbsp lemon juice to each cup of milk and let it stand for 10 mins. Like doh! I have been buying it all these years.

So, my house is rather tidy! About as much as it ever gets. To me it looks really nice and clear it is not

We don't really celebrate any of the hallmark holidays. Dp got a card that all the dc signed, and a toblerone. Job done.

Just realised it is raining on the whites on the washing line. Bugger. All the school shirts will have to tumble. At least they won't need ironing.

Sport is so very boring. I have two exceptions, cycling (obvs, but only the three grand tours) and f1, which is getting a bit dull tbh, but I watch it from habit. Not a single world cup match will grace this house.

LonelyOversharer · 17/06/2018 19:44
  • we had mil round for lunch. We didn't actually eat her.
Wolfcub · 17/06/2018 19:59

Have a good evening Sunny it’s lovely to be able to go out with your neighbor

Love 35 is no age and you will definitely find the right job for you. My career didn’t really get going until four/five years ago when I was 34/35 Ish and it probably won’t go any further in the next eight years whilst I get ds through high school and into adulthood. My boss thinks it’s hilarious that I am so precise about this.

Just been out in the garden to collect the washing in before it rains. The garden smells beautiful a combination of roses and honeysuckle. I have however been stung on my rather expansive belly whilst still stretching up to unpeg the washing. Not sure what I was stung by but I hope it’s enjoyed itself!

Once again we are going to run out of money before the end of the month. This month we have not bought any clothes, shoes, haircuts, birthday gifts for anyone. We have had one day out that cost £40 and one meal out that was £37. Other than that the only places we have been have been free eg park and we have taken picnics.
We have spent on average about £75 a week on food and nappies. I have put fuel in the car once which was £60 and dh spends about the same on his train pass. I have spent £6 on parking. Basically childcare is eating up our money. We were better off when I was on maternity leave as we were only paying childcare for 1 dc.

We both work hard and I don't think the occasional day out is extravagant. We have nothing left to save each month. I'm starting to worry about Christmas. We'll have to buy school uniform soon too. Eek!

Trying to think where we could cut back. We don't have many things left to cut back on!

LonelyOversharer · 17/06/2018 20:55

snuggly I feel for you. Will your childcare go down in september? Does dd1 start reception? And you work term time right? So will you save on childcare over the summer, or do you have to pay all year round for nursery? Just wondering if there is a gap and you could stash the saving away to pay for christmas.

If it makes you feel any better, I chose to stay home with my dc, accepted that I'd be living on thin air while they were small, but had no childcare costs. Now, with ds in yr1, I am really struggling to even get a minimum wage job...so, on balance, given my time again I would go back to work and take the childcare hit, to have decent work once they are all in school.

Everything we need, food, fuel, is so damned expensive now, I'm running to stand still.

Cagliostro · 17/06/2018 20:56

Yikes snuggly :(

Is it September DD1 starts school then, or another year? I guess it’s a fair while till the free 30 hours kicks in for the babies, do they start from 2yo for all kids now or is it income related? I’ve not kept up with all the changes.

Spendy today, I bought DVDs. I got to show the Caglets my favourite Simpsons moment and they laughed their socks off. Got an anime as well.

Glad DH is off tomorrow, lots to do. Haven’t discussed the storage ideas with him yet either.

Loveabaconsandwich · 17/06/2018 20:56

That really does suck snuggly

Will costs reduce once DD1 starts school or will it increase again with before/after school care?
Would it be worthwhile one of you being a sahp? I'm not suggesting it has to be you!
Do your childcare costs reduce in the summer holidays or is it all year round care?

We're only now really having money left in the bank now DD2 gets her thirty free hours. There was a lot of soul destroying hours of work for what felt like no £rewards to get there. Lots of sympathy here for you ThanksCake

Loveabaconsandwich · 17/06/2018 20:57

Sorry, we've all posted the same questions Smile

ememem84 · 17/06/2018 21:13

Oooof snuggly childcare’s extortionate! No idea how we’d manage with three little ones!

So. Next week looms.

My diary is busy. I have a dr appointment on Thursday after work which I think I’m going to have to move. The dr gave me enough meds for 14 days. I run out on Tuesday. So will need to see dr on Wednesday at the latest won’t I, and find time to fill me prescription. Hmm. Did not think this through. Will call the surgery tomorrow.

Tomorrow I also need to pay £250 into my regular saver account. Have remembered to make the transfer to my current account so that’s good. And it’s payday on Thursday. Phew.

Spends this week - nails on Friday lunchtime.

I plan on doing a no clothing spend until my birthday (October) unless it’s absolutely necessary, or it’s with a voucher.

I need to tidy the wardrobe as it’s a state but I do not need any more things.

Cagliostro · 17/06/2018 21:24

In the interest of frugal fun I’ve joined our local secret stones group. Yay! Free and fun for the kids other than the paint which I’ll need to buy, not starting until we’ve moved though.

(Incidentally a typo nearly made that secret stoned, which would be a very different kind of fun Hmm)

ememem84 · 17/06/2018 21:45

...and probably less frugal

Cagliostro · 17/06/2018 21:58

:o

I wouldn’t know 😇😂

mammynowanauntyIRL · 17/06/2018 22:09

Snuggly that's soul destroying

NSD for me today
H bought ds runners as I failed yesterday & he ended up with the exact ones I wanted to buy Grin won't know how much they cost until he eventually does his transfer to joint account as he didn't use his card. I think they were €28 if memory serves me right.

I've my hair booked for next Saturday but going to cancel it because I've no occasion coming up, I'll do it in a few weeks as I've a night out with my friends from home mid July.

SnugglySnerd · 17/06/2018 22:11

Thanks everyone. Yes she'll start school but with after school club it won't be much different from now with her 30 funded hours. The dts won't get that for 2 more years! When they do we'll be living the high life! Yes we should save a bit over the summer hols as no childcare then. I'll have to spend some on entertaining them all for 6 weeks. Let's hope we have good weather for garden/park/picnics!

Sorry to moan I'm just fed up of basically working for nothing but yes I realise it'll pay out in the long term.

Wrongwayup · 17/06/2018 22:14

Girlie. 4 roses and 2spirea. Think I spelt that right. Can't say it though. 4 trips to the tip.nd day just petrol.

SunnyLikeThursday · 17/06/2018 22:48

I'm home again. Successful night out #2. Smile

I got dressed right up to the nines and my neighbour was all dressed up too and it was great. The orchestra was good and we had a nice time and a bit of a rant

Possible night out #3 has been mooted.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 17/06/2018 23:03

Glad you had a good time sunny I reckon you're getting your mojo back 😉

snuggly when I went back to work dds childcare was more than my rent and at least half of my monthly wage, it is soul destroying. With 3 of them 😨 there should be some sort of subsidiary for twins!! Would a nanny be cheaper?

laComtessede · 17/06/2018 23:14

That sounds really tough @SnugglySnerd. Great that there is an end in sight with it, but that doesn't make it easier at the present moment of course.

£20 supermarket including small gift for FIL
£36 Father's Day meal out

Bornlazy · 17/06/2018 23:14

Sunny that's great you enjoyed your night out, dressing up always makes things more special.

Cag I love The Simpsons! What is your favourite Simpson's moment? My favourite episode is the one where they do a piss take of Cape Fear. That was always the criteria for boyfriends in the past, they had to like the Simpsons Wink

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/06/2018 23:28

Gig was fine and cost me nothing extra.
Omd were very good, aha improved towards the end.

I remember the days of working for zero cash and it's shit but I wanted to hold onto a good job. Could you use home childcare? Nanny, au pair? I have no idea if that's cheaper or not btw.
Do you max out your child care vouchers? I know long term it comes off your tax/pension etc but can help short term.

Well done on the night out.

Sport meh. Nothing appeals here. to watch anyway.

Feeling a bit grrr at the minute. Sick of dh being an arse. I can feel a row coming on. I'm sure he thinks it's all my fault too like

SunnyLikeThursday · 18/06/2018 06:22

Thanks Girlie, I think you're right.
