Cankles - Yes, I think it would. We used the upholstery shampoo, which I think most people use for sofas etc. rather than car seats! The RugDoctor website is quite helpful, so hopefully that will have more info though. I think it was £23 for the machine, and £13 for the shampoo (1/2 a bottle was enough for 2x cars). I'm just double checking - you can't remove the covers and dry clean them though, can you?

babsmam · 10/07/2016 17:29

gah lost a long post

creme that's shit about the dog - poor thing.
Need your DD sounds proper down to earth, well done you and dh
Cag, sorry i have no idea but i have just realised i'v lost dc birth certificates from when they cam back from the passport office - damm.
i agree being part of frugal is making good spending choices as well as good savings choices.

spendy day - £53 debenhams but £30 from gift cards, £10 ish on various coffees, £40 smyths toys on pressies, £7 gap on dd leggings, £not sure in decathlon £ish30, £50 airport parking, there must be more bu t i can't recall.

whats the best way to spend money abroad those who travel? we are going to take some cash but is it worth getting one of those pre- paid cards or juts using a debit card?

SnugglySnerd · 10/07/2016 17:31

Lovely day here in the end, got washing out and went for a big country walk. Just spent £5 on ice creams.
Also sent DH to the shop to buy custard as we have loads of rhubarb in the garden do I'm making a crumble.

WreckTangled · 10/07/2016 17:32

Yes babs get one but don't use the post office.

Cagliostro · 10/07/2016 17:34

DH made rhubarb and pear crumble the other day, yum :)

I'm shredding sh(r)edloads here. Good grief. Only the stuff I know I should shred though obviously. Quite ridiculous that we have things like electricity/mobile bills etc from before DD was born. You know, the DD who turned NINE last month. Hmm

Cagliostro · 10/07/2016 17:36

Also thanks again re: divorce stuff - Em do you mean they kept all the divorce stuff or just the DA? I guess your clients had many more assets to worry about. In DH's case the only thing needing to be divvied out was debt (all from exW's catalogue spending but that's another thread) :o

Ememem84 · 10/07/2016 17:43

cag as far as I know we've kept all of it. But we keep everything. It would be a bit of a reputational risk for us if we shredded anything that could later be used in court. It's always a think about the worst that could happen what if hypothetical scenario in our world.

weve also got tonnes of storage offsite so it doesn't matter what we keep. Could you keep the original of the DA and scan the rest and email to yourselves?

OP posts:
Ememem84 · 10/07/2016 17:44

That's what I've done with all our house stuff. Kept the original deeds/mortgage docs then all other correwpondence valuations etc I took to work on a Saturday and scanned and emailed to myself.

OP posts:
Ememem84 · 10/07/2016 17:45

Keep posting too soon.

Have also done t with insurance docs, appliance manuals and reciepts etc. Payslips etc. I keep the last 12 months and any important ones (Payrise letters promotion letters bonus letters etc) but shred the rest.

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 10/07/2016 17:47

Cag you will SOS much lighter, shredding all that stuff. I almost feel Envy of you. I don't get utility bills any more, but I used to shred the old bill as soon as the next one came. I only keep credit card statements for about 3 months and bank statements are online. As little paperwork as possible is my motto.Smile

Cagliostro · 10/07/2016 17:49

Thanks guys, as little as possible is definitely the plan going forward! :)

Badders123 · 10/07/2016 18:37

Did 3 loads of washing - thanks dh! - and got them all dry outside
Went to see mum and check dads flowers st the cemetery
Watched the tennis...,what a boring match!
In bed relaxing now before the madness of last week at school starts

needastrongone · 10/07/2016 20:02

I enjoyed the match Badders Smile, but agree, it was a lovely day here and suitable numbers of washing have been through the machine.

Settled down for the night now.

Very easy to make tea tonight. Fried some chopped up streaky bacon, with some garlic (lots of) and mushrooms. Added in skinless chicken thighs ad cooked off, added 300ml of white wine to make the sauce. Seasoned, Served with roasted new potatoes and mangetout.

Babs I think I have heard Martin Lewis recommend the Halifax card for spending abroad. We've got a pre-paid card from Fair-FX for our dollars and loaded that up way before the referendum vote when I knew rates would plummet. They offer a very good rate. DO NOT buy at the airport....

Sierra259 · 10/07/2016 20:21

Busy weekend here for DH's birthday - bit spendy too as had a BBQ for it with some friends today to celebrate. Thank goodness for Costco as we managed to bulk buy food much more cheaply, plus stock up on nappies/wipes/loo roll etc.

Off to catch up on the thread properly. Hope you've all had a lovely weekend!

Ememem84 · 10/07/2016 20:47

Made £18 on eBay. Yippee.

Tryingtosaveup · 10/07/2016 21:32

Really busy day here , but at least NSD.
Hop e you're all relaxing and enjoying the ( boring) footy

lilacclery · 10/07/2016 21:43

So only starting to catch up.
Cag I've been thinking of shredding stuff today too. We've electricity & cc bills that predate dd too, she's 6.
We put on the fire today as got soaked at a local festival so I burnt some recent stuff I needed to get rid of.

Any tips for cleaning a mattress? Dh's gd wet it twice through the plastic sheet Grin dd has wet the mattress before but not same volume & smell not as strong either sorry tmi!

Debating a jeep renegade, I know it's a while since I posted so can't remember who was interested Blush
I'm still debating it, have added category for deposit to my ynab anyhow.

Spends this weekend €68 cut colour & blowdry for me & cut for dd. €10 charity donation, €10 on another charity donation which got me 2 framed jigsaws Smile €4.50 kids disco €5.50 coffee with a friend & dc

Have handed in my notice on my second evening class & of course numbers have increased at it Confused looking forward to only being out one night a week though

Canklesofglitter · 10/07/2016 22:04

Thank you space will have a look at the Rug Doctor website then. Sadly the covers are fixed.

Bit stressed about a booking we made via TripAdvisor for an apartment near Brighton. The dates are showing as taken and our payment has been taken but we can't get hold of the owner to ask about keys etc. We can't leave before 3.30pm on Friday and realistically it's a five hour drive. Have visions of arriving at 9pm to find we have nowhere to stay! Our money is protected (on credit card) but we actually need the accommodation as we're attending a party.

Cagliostro · 10/07/2016 22:17

Ooh lilac I can't comment on the car itself, but I love the Renegades song from the advert for that car :o

Oh no Cankles hope that's sorted! I hate that 'not knowing' feeling.

Shredding going really well. I've got rid of loads of stuff and have a pile to continue shredding tomorrow (can't do it when the Caglets are in bed). Have condensed what needs keeping into one pile - mostly insurance stuff, last year's HMRC stuff, divorce crap, that kind of thing.

Ememem84 · 10/07/2016 22:47

cag THANKYOU!! I love that dog and have been meaning to Shazam it for ages!!

Off to iTunes I go. (Again). I just downloaded Rick astleys album. It's actually quite good. 🎧

I am sad France lost the football. My other home country. (Dad is French).

There is a huge Portuguese community here and seemingly they are all out in the streets of st helier tonight making their cars do the beep beeps. So many beep beeps.

We're half an hour away. And can hear them. Drums. Vuvuzelas. Beep beeps and cheering. It's amazing. But so lucky we don't live closer!!

Hurrah for Portugal! Smile

Cagliostro · 10/07/2016 23:08

Most welcome Em - though I was wondering when I'd posted about a dog :o yes it's awesome isn't it, I only knew who the band was thanks to my DSD, she keeps me in the loop about current music. :o

Happy for Portugal as some of our best friends are from there. :)

Today's spends only £4.03 in Co-op, but have signed DCs up for Forest School next term so have to pay for that tomorrow. Probably will be spendy as we have to take DD to book group, I have the Dr so will be at least two prescriptions for the meds I've run out of.

Cagliostro · 10/07/2016 23:10

Just for you Em

The frugaleers jovially jostle their way into June July and joyfulness
Ememem84 · 10/07/2016 23:25

Hahahahaha cag you know he probably should be pm. I'd vote for him if I was allowed.
I was 3 when that Never gonna give you up was released.

Still beepbeeps here. It's brilliant. So many people are complaining about the noise on fb. But I'm all for it. They won. Let them celebrate. (Hoping it means more Portuguese treats tomorrow!)
