My plans for dinner were scuppered last night so DH ended up taking DDS to McDonald's. I've fractured my little toe on a bloody door frame Hmm

DH is keeping me supplied with Brew and pain killers. Today will be an NSD.

I got a cross cut shredder from W H Smith recently, it £34 on their website, don't know how that compares on price? Hope you find that receipt Cag

CremeEggThief · 04/07/2016 13:36

Ouch, Adors, you poor thing!

Cag, you should be able to get a shredder in Wilkos or Argos for not much more than a tenner.

Spends: £1.23, on milk and a duster (the local hardware shop sells single dusters, dishcloths, etc.)

ipsogenix · 04/07/2016 14:02

Well done on the competition need.

Hang in there Babs. What a lovely looking dog he was.

I'm still up to my eyeballs in the political news, thought now a bit maxed out by it all. Starting to think back to the days of Spitting Image on the telly, after seeing Heseltine and Owen and co. all piping up. Never thought I've be feeling sentimental about those guys. :-)

Badders123 · 04/07/2016 14:23

Oh dear Sad
I've broken all my toes except the big ones more than once! It's not fun
Put your feet up!

needastrongone · 04/07/2016 14:26

Wonder if you will feel sentimental about Nigel Farage is years to come Ipsos Grin

I'm the same, feel a bit saturated by it all now.

Ouch Adora, I know it's 'only' a toe, but hellish painful I imagine.

We have had 2 shredders in the past (I now take stuff to work). First was a Tesco Value shredder, which proved excellent for the money. The second was from Amazon, I forget the make, it just shredded more sheets at any one time. The Tesco shredder was great for day to day mail though, and a few quid.

NSD.

In my weekly update re business post Brexit, we are still busy. No EU business at all (that's perfectly normal), much domestic, and some non EU. It's early days still though.

CremeEggThief · 04/07/2016 14:52

Need Grin.

I would love to see Farage deported to live on an uninhabited desert island for the rest of his life.

AdoraBell · 04/07/2016 15:09

Thanks, I am ensconced on the sofa and yes need bleeding painful despite being such a minor thing.

DH has had to go to an appointment on his own. Dr at A&E said to use sports shoes with good support but no way can I get my foot into anything atm.

I defrosted fish yesterday, that should be okay today, shouldn't it? Can't quite face giving line caught cod to the dogsHmm

Cagliostro · 04/07/2016 15:31

Oh no Adora! :( I've never broken a toe, I thought I did once but it was only bruised and that was painful enough. Hope it heals nice and fast.

Thanks for the shredder info. Good to know I should be able to get one cheap, ideally I don't want to spend more than £15. There's no rush (the papers are just sitting in a box) so if I can't find one tomorrow I'll wait until the next time we visit Tesco or similar.

Doing a proper Tesco order for tomorrow, first in a couple of weeks but we've run down loads of stuff - I've actually done quite well at cobbling meals together lately. But we now need to restock on lots of store cupboard stuff. We've got white fish, minced beef and minced lamb in the freezer so that'll do meat-wise I reckon. Pork belly tonight.

babsmam · 04/07/2016 15:59

Much adora, broken toes are sore.
Love the London planning. Think we will go next year.
Shredders are either straight cut (cheaper) or cross cut (pricier but paper into smaller bits) depending on how security conscious you are.
Nsd today, just usual kid activities

Cagliostro · 04/07/2016 16:58

Tesco ordered. Just shy of £100 [wince]. That is a heck of a lot of stocking up on things. But no laundry/toiletries and no meat other than ham/chorizo on offer. Yikes. I've also included some snacky things to take for when we go out for the day, as we have been really awful with this and always end up popping to the newsagents or whatever when we're out. Because you know they couldn't possibly wait until we get home. Hmm Blush

Need to put the dinner on. Bah.

Ememem84 · 04/07/2016 18:50

Nsd.

And I've succeeded in mumsnetting the shot out of a roast chicken. Dinner yesterday. Sandwiches today. Pesto courgette chicken rissotto tonight with enough leftover for Dh for lunch tomorrow. Booyah!

can anyone tell I had a wicked awesome day today

WreckTangled · 04/07/2016 18:56

Nsd. Good job on the chicken! I miss chicken. Have successfully not eaten meat for four weeks. I won't call myself a vegetarian though because I know I won't be able to resist pigs in blankets at Christmas Grin

We had quiche, salad and sautéed potatoes for dinner but I'm really hungry still.

Ursulatodd · 04/07/2016 19:08

NSD here too! (maybe NSMondays could be a July challenge?!) not for want of trying though as I owe some sponsorship but couldn't get any change so will still need to pay that tmrw.

Had a weird dinner of fridge and freezer scraps - chicken chargrill, fish fingers, beans and sweetcorn! However I have cooked up a healthy carrot, tomato and sweet potato soup for tmrw.

8FencingWire · 04/07/2016 19:10

NSD here too!

CremeEggThief · 04/07/2016 19:12

Wreck, try some full fat Greek yogurt and a piece of fruit after dinner, if you're still hungry.

Ememem84 · 04/07/2016 19:14

wreck I could not ever resist a pig in a blanket. Never. Or a sausage roll.

I'd be a rubbish veggie.

Went to visit a client today at one of the big manor houses. I actually squealed when I went through the door. Proper beauty and the beast staircase. Sweeping. With a chandelier.

And I met the lovely housekeeper who gave me a tour of the kitchen garden and force fed offered me chocolate shortbreads. Homemade.

I love my job.

In bathroom news the plumbers appear to have been again. Things are moving. And our tiles are ready for collection from b&q. So we're off there now. Have already paid for them. I think it was around £400. (Dh bought them) they would deliver but it saves us about £50 if we do it ourselves.

£6.70 spent in coffee shop today meeting my friend. Hopefully tomorrow will be NSD. DH bought one of those 4 in one tools from Lidl today- hedgecutter, trimmer etc for £129.. A lot but we will need it for our new place as the gardens massive Smile

Well done ememem on the chicken success! Proper frugaling there!

Wreck that made me laugh about pigs in blankets... I do love a Christmas dinner 😄

AdoraBell · 04/07/2016 19:26

The fish no good. Well done on the chicken em

Shopping arriving tomorrow, £75.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/07/2016 19:30

It sounds lovely em. Dn is a trainee architect and builds houses for rich people with his dad, He shows me the pictures of what they've done and it's just amazing.

Has Biscuit decided who his favourite person is yet? Dcat loves me best despite Dh buying him treats and catnip mice.

Adora I broke my big toe but refused a+e because I'm a podiatrist and didn't want the "what do you do for a living" chat. I took wine, fish and chips for mine. It worked really well but I doubt NICE will adopt it as a clinical protocol.

£150 final payment for nail course.
£15 new tunic for nail course
£40 petrol
£1 pasta sauce.

WreckTangled · 04/07/2016 19:33

It's me fluffy. Obvs Grin

babsmam · 04/07/2016 19:39

Pigs in blankets mmmmm.

As you were

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/07/2016 19:44

Clever cat. No point loving someone who doesn't know where the foods kept.

Sierra259 · 04/07/2016 20:08

Adora ouch! You poor thing. Sad Take it easy! Em that is impressive use of a chicken. The pesto risotto sounds lovely, do you have a recipe?

NSD here too! Library and park kept DC1 occupied nicely. Quorn spag bol for tea tonight to use up the last mushrooms and peppers before food shop comes tomorrow. And mmmmm to pigs in blankets!

Ememem84 · 04/07/2016 20:13

sierra no recipe really. Just sort of winged it. But:

Fry onions and shed loads of garlic in olive oil until soft. Add rissotto rice. Stir stir stir. Then add grated courgette. And leftover chicken. Stock. Stir a bit. Lid on. And leave it to absorb stirring occasionally. Tablespoon of pesto. And we had it served on top of a rocket salad. Add cheese. I wanted to stir cream cheese through it but ours had a bit of blue mouldy growing on it. So it was binned.

That's the first "thought about" dinner I've made for a long time. Smile

SnugglySnerd · 04/07/2016 20:14

Ouch, Adora! I've broken a few toes, you don't realise how much you use them do you?! Ice and rest needed.
NSD here too.
