DS tested positive - can we travel to Majorca?

Siezethefish · 30/03/2022 17:47

DS has tested positive with a PCR - we are in Wales where they still do them. He has symptoms but was testing negative (and still is) with LFTs. He has been double jabbed so meets the entry requirements.

We are due to fly to Majorca on Friday.

To travel to Spain you have to fill in a questionnaire and state that if you have symptoms you will self isolate for a week

The Mirror is saying that the self isolation requirement has been removed

Can anyone advise on whether he can
a) travel
b) must self isolate?

thanks in advance!

And this is how we are still in this absolute mess.

absolutlynot · 30/03/2022 21:19

How old is your son op ?
Just wondering if I am giving a description of a child or and adult arriving into the country on Friday from Britain to the airport.
I speak Spanish

absolutlynot · 30/03/2022 21:22

Boris might have decided covid doesn't exist anymore luckily Sanchez says otherwise 🙄

MossyBottom · 30/03/2022 21:26

This is the second thread this week I've seen where someone was planning to get on a plane knowing they had covid and could potentially infect 100s of people.
I have to say that at least this time the consensus is against the OP. On the other thread they were supporting her decision and suggesting ways to avoid being caught.
Most airlines have dropped mask rules.
I have a holiday booked next month that has been postponed since my cancer treatment 2 years ago. I am CEV. Some people would say I shouldn't expect to travel / live a normal life. I didn't think I was taking any more of a risk than going to a busy place in the UK. Now I realise that I am quite likely to be spending 4 hours on a plane with covid I really don'twant to go.

At best covid is going to ruin someone's holiday, at worst they could end up being very ill in another country.

cushioncovers · 30/03/2022 21:30

This is exactly why I haven't even considered booking a holiday for this summer so far.

springtimeishereagain · 30/03/2022 21:35

@ITSupport

We were 99% certain we had Covid before we flew home last week. Day after we arrived, tested and confirmed.

No way was I going to pay to self isolate abroad so we were getting on that plane come what may

Unbelievably fucking selfish.
SkiingIsHeaven · 30/03/2022 21:37

Op suddenly disappeared. I wonder why? Hopefully moving the trip to another date.

Siezethefish · 30/03/2022 21:40

Gosh - such presumption and vitriol here.

Having read back through my 3 posts there is nothing about me saying I am going. I wanted to know what the evidence was to say I shouldn’t go as other than a moral obligation it didn’t seem clear. I have also commented more generally on lack of black and white-ness in the rules.

Thanks to those who have pointed me to the relevant rules. That is really helpful.

Interestingly it has been pointed out to me elsewhere that a PCR test can detect covid for 3 months so DS may not have covid now and that person said I should rely on the LFTs. He has done 4 LFTs in the last 2 days - all negative and tested twice weekly for last few months. I got a PCR for him as most of his class have had covid in last 2 weeks - all picked up through LFTs and he has a cold / cough / sore throat.
I didn’t think going on a plane with this backstory plus the risk of it being picked up arrivals a good idea. Hence the PCR test.

Jesus. Other people might not know but you do

EasterIssland · 30/03/2022 21:44

In Spain you don’t have to isolate anymore as long as your symptoms are mild or no symptoms. So same as in the uk. Most airlines (easyjet / Ryanair for example) still keep the mask rule. So the chances of giving the virus are lower than the ones in our day to day life.

Tbh if we’re going to learn to live with covid we have to learn to live for better and for bad. End of. If I can go to work with covid I can go to the pub if I want or to Spain.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 30/03/2022 21:44

This thread is depressing. Just bloody depressing. There have always been people who don't give a shit about others. This bloody pandemic just means so many more others are at their mercy than in normal times.

maddy68 · 30/03/2022 21:45

In Spain the rules have changed. You don't have to isolate with mild symptoms "technically" but you have to wear a mask at all times indoors and out if you have covid symptoms and avoid close contact and confined spaces. I think it's quite irresponsible to fly

Wingingthis · 30/03/2022 21:48

People are so harsh!! My DH actually got a false positive PCR at work in December. (Negative the day before & day after both PCRs for work)
So it can happen

SpringsSprung · 30/03/2022 21:56

@DirtyDancing

My friend and her son are covid positive. They are due to fly abroad tomorrow... planning on still going apparently. They are going to isolate in the hotel 'for a couple of days' seems like everyone is giving no flying duck! Shame about the people on the plane.. at the airport.. in the taxi transfer... can't quite believe it but seems to be what so many people are doing now.
Report her to the airline & airport itself for goodness sake! It could save a life! What is there's an unvaccinated pregnant local lady in the place they're visiting or working in their accommodation?

Oh and before I get replies calling me petty - I'd much rather be called 'petty' by morons and potentially save a life than knowingly ignore somebody potentially putting multiple lives at risk.

MimosaFields · 30/03/2022 21:56

Travellers of any age, including children under 12 years old, travelling by air or sea must fill in and sign an online Health Control Formm_ no more than 48 hours before travel.
Children under the age of 12 years old do not need to:
• show proof of being fully vaccinated on entry to Spain
• take diagnostic tests prior to arrival
• show proof of having recovered from prior COVID-19 infection in the last 6 months
• meet the requirements outlined in the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and COVID-19’ pagee_, even if they have visited a ‘risk country’ in the previous 14 days
Travellers from the UK aged 12 to 17 inclusive can enter Spain by presenting documentation certifying that they have undertaken a COVID-19 nucleic acid amplification test - NAAT (PCR or similar) within 72 hours prior to arrival in Spain. Antigen tests are not accepted.
Alternatively, travellers aged 12 to 17 can still enter Spain with a full vaccination certificate or a recovery certificate (see ‘If you’ve had COVID-19 in the past year’’_). Spain defines someone as being fully vaccinated if they have had two vaccine doses or one dose of a one-dose vaccine.
Travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from mainland Spain
To travel to the Canary or Balearic islands from mainland Spain, you may need to show a negative COVID test depending on the region you are travelling from. Check with your travel operator and the local authorities in your final destination for guidance on domestic entry requirements.

MimosaFields · 30/03/2022 21:59

I was in Spain about two weeks ago and my certificate of vaccination was heavily scrutinised. Even if you were to be so irresponsible, I doubt you'd get away with it

AWombleScorned · 30/03/2022 21:59

i find it hard to believe you don’t plan on going Hmm. Nice convenient drip feed. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself. So fucking selfish

EasterIssland · 30/03/2022 22:00

@SpringsSprung why is the unvaccinated lady not vaccinated? I mean they’ve had time to have the vaccine and also they’ve been encouraged to have the vaccine as they’re at risk …

EasterIssland · 30/03/2022 22:00

*unvaccinated pregnant lady

ittakes2 · 30/03/2022 22:03

I don’t think you’ve thought this through - you are asking if ok for him to sit on a plane in a confined space for a few hours infecting quite a few people with covid. Some of whom might then need to isolate when they get to their holiday destination?

Allsorts1 · 30/03/2022 22:09

Surely if he’s masked the whole time and doesn’t speak to anyone, the risk to other people on the plane is pretty low? Planes are very well ventilated. I’m not sure what all the outrage is about really!

ilovesooty · 30/03/2022 22:09

@ITSupport

I hope I'm not near someone on a plane who thinks like this this summer.
absolutlynot · 30/03/2022 22:12

Aw sorry the vitriol op of course everyone should have said have a lovely holiday you deserve it ! 🙄

Silversprinkles · 30/03/2022 22:21

@Siezethefish nice attempt at a backtrack but your thread title literally asks if you can travel HmmHmmHmm

Abra1d1 · 30/03/2022 22:27

I highly recommend FFP-2 masks for people flying for this reason—they are far more protective and you don’t know who’s going to be infectious.
