I’ve got covid. On day 3 and think I’m doing very well. Been doing the washing and eating usual amounts of food etc . The mother (anti vaxxer) has pissed me off tonight. “Oh well why have u got covid when you’ve had the vaccine”. Have to laugh.

Half our family including me have chosen not to have this vaccine (and I have not caught covid as far as I know). However it is not that I don't think the vaccine works - it clearly does but has never been going to prevent 100% of infection as it is not that type of vaccine. A triple vaccinated member of our extended family has just had covid. My non vaccinated adult child and vaccinated spouse had it last summer - the vaccinated one had it worse but that's just chance.

I paid £400 for my sons to have the BCG one (I am not anti vax in general). My children had the MMR and yet one caught mumps about 2 years ago at university and his twin did not. If you have the MMR you only have a 1 in 10 chance of getting mumps so he was very unlucky, whereas if you have real mumps I think you are 100% not going to get mumps. All these vaccines just work in different ways.

@Lilaclavenders

I suppose many people would prefer if science would catch up and develop a pill or a tablet or vaccine to stop transmission altogether so that they can continue on with poor hygiene and manners.

We already a great weapon against circulating viruses .... our immune system!!

Well I'm fucked if we are relying on immune systems Grin

My DH had Covid March 2020. Went to hospital. Was horrendous. He got COVID again last week after 2 vaccines and a booster. He said it was not comparable. Thank goodness for the vaccine

Presumably he had built up his own immunity through having it before though?
DesertStorms · 18/03/2022 04:45

The other thing is it seems there is a necessity to keep having boosters for ever with this vaccine. I don’t want that.

Riddl7777 · 18/03/2022 06:47

@DesertStorms if he built up his own immunity why would he catch covid again?

Xenia · 18/03/2022 08:23

Riddl, I would never call myself antivax - it is simply the covid one is not for me, currently. However I did read your link - thanks. It is exactly what I know and was part of the reason I did not have the covid one. Had it been (as it cannot be due to the fact it is a coronavirus) a one for life or 10 years and almost complete protection I might have been up for it. I knew it would be like the flu one which I have not been offered in the past due to my age (too young) - as indeed we all knew - each year we pick the most likely flu strain around and offer the vaccine to the old and sick.

It will be interesting to see what the Uk does next Autumn to prepare for the 2022/23 winter season for flu and covid 19 - I presume just vaccinate the old and vulnerable.

Today by the way is covid freedom day for many of us unvaccinated ones as the 18 March is the day the obligation to have expensive tests whilst on holiday and once back in the UK is abolished.

@Xenia, it's just lazy labelling for people who are concerned and have questions about the Covid vaccines to be called "anti-vaxx". I'm fairly sure the majority of them have had many other vaccines/given their kids all the necessary ones –I know I have.

Surely an anti-vaxxer is someone who does not believe in any vaccines and has not given their kids any at all?

I think it raises the question of why they need to be so confrontational by using such a term to describe people who may only have questions, be hesitant, don't trust pharma to be pushing the vaxes for the right reasons, or simply be against mandated vaccines.

Black and white thinking for those who aren’t bright enough to question anything for themselves.
I’m not anti vaccinations at all. Just very sceptical about these particular ones.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 18/03/2022 10:05

I can't stand the automatic 'anti-vax' label that people put on others for questioning this particular vaccine. It's really insulting and shows how shallow minded those particular people are who choose to use that term. They simply do not understand that people have the right to question and make their own decisions.

Last year I was with a group of friends having a chat on my own with another friend just talking about her family and how covid was particularly bad where they were. Another nosey friend overheard me talking and came over and stood with us and then just blurted out "this isn't a bunch of anti-vax chat is it?" I've never been more insulted by her. Stupid women automatically assuming that because I'm not vaccinated I was trying to 'spread anti-vax' info.

I'm not anti-vax. Just don't believe that the covid one was necessary for everyone, let alone 3-4 rounds of it. I've had covid and was perfectly fine unvaccinated and made it through almost asymptomatic and much better off than my other vaccinated friends.

For what it's worth I took my youngest to get their final round of childhood vaccinations this week 🙄

Thank goodness people are able to have these conversations now and not be drowned out by a load of shrieking about selfishness accusations of being "thick" etc. Thank fuck people are slowly regaining their wits, and people feel braver to speak out and speak their mind. It was madness.

I had three jabs. No more.
