Do you think the NHS will really fire all unvaccinated staff?

I just can't bring myself to believe that will happen. Surely it must be bully boy tactics and at the last minute they'll back down.

The NHS can barely cope now. How the hell is it going to cope with, what? 80,000-100,00 fewer staff?

It makes sense to follow through. I’d say the majority of those people are admin staff or unskilled workers for NHS as opposed to skilled nurses or doctors so you’re not going to lose many skilled staff. Porters, cleaners, admin people are low skill and should be easily replaced.

Any doctors/nurses who are anti vax probably shouldn’t be in their jobs if they don’t understand basic science

I'm one of those skilled clinicians you talk about. Admin people are not low skill, and a poor administrator can probably cause more havoc than a poor clinician. They're usually the first person a patient speaks to and their approach sets the tone for the entire consultation.

Likewise indifferent cleaning - good, reliable cleaners are worth their weight in gold.

No porters in our service, so can't comment there, but I would assume the same applies.

Decent admins and secs are worth their weight in gold. "Unskilled?" Most people wouldn't last a day doing their job. It's bloody hard work and takes a LOT of knowledge and people SKILLS. Advanced IT SKILLS. Strict organisations SKILLS. The SKILL to be patient with everyone, even those who insult them by calling them unskilled and devaluing them. Try not to murder patients and relatives constantly yelling at them SKILLS.

I will always, ALWAYS defend our admin , clerical, cleaners, assistants and porters. You have zero clue how hard those jobs are and how skilled and motivated you actually have to be to do them.

They've done it to all the social care staff

Just read an article on the BBC featuring some paramedics saying stuff like: "I'm young and healthy, so I'm happy with these odds" and "The vAccINe dOEsn'T sToP yOU cATchINg iT".

It's all about them. I wonder if they don't wear a seatbelt because it doesn't prevent you from crashing your vehicle? I hope they do sack them.

@WouldIBeATwat

What was a drip feed about it? They needed to have the vaccine, they didn't have the vaccine, inline with govt advice they were considered for redeployment, there were no roles for them so they were redundant.

Actually they weren’t. People aren’t redundant, roles are. The roles still exist, but they are no longer suitable for them. They therefore are not eligible for redundancy. They would be dismissed for Some Other Substantial Reason and paid notice, not redundancy.

(Prepping letters for staff ready for 4th Feb so double checked all the legals this afternoon.)

My question was what was the drip feed. I said they didn't get the jabs and were made redundant. You might think that is wrong although it is a fact but there wasn't a drip feed.

It was a private organisation, not NHS, and they made the decision with legal advice.

Completely and utterly dismissive and shortsighted attitude.

I agree that admin, cleaners, porters and maintenance staff are vital and skilled and without them the NHS would grind to a halt. A well run department needs skilled secretarial, admin and IT professionals as well as Consultants, doctors and nurses.
