Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Absolutely I'll be ditching them, I did last summer.

ReeseWitherfork · 17/01/2022 12:49

Why don't people protect themselves with an FFP3 or N95 mask?
I believe there was a recent study published to show even fabric masks protected the wearer the majority of the time. I'll see if I can dig it out. It was trying to work out if the public perception of "they're useless to the wearer" was accurate, and the answer was no.
I personally think the answer to your question is... keep the medical grade ones for the medical professionals. I still don't give a shit if other people aren't wearing masks, if you don't want to wear one then don't, but I'm happy believing that wearing one is giving me some protection, however minimal.

Whatsyourfavouritescarymovie · 17/01/2022 12:49

I happen to like wearing a mask, I'll likely continue wearing one for however long I want.

ElftonWednesday · 17/01/2022 12:50

If we are no longer required to wear them either by law or by request then I certainly will not be wearing them.

You've kind of skewed the responses by telling pro-mask people that it isn't the thread for them.

@bubblesbubbles11

I have not read the whole thread and apologies if this is slightly off subject - but anyone have any thoughts on when the "work from home" advice will be lifted?
When the Pret CEOs financial manager calls him panicking about his dividends again?
TillyTopper · 17/01/2022 12:50

I'll wear on the train/tube and honestly I wish some people's personal hygiene was better, but I've already ditched masks. If challenged I would say "Oh sorry, I forgot" and put one on - but no one has said anything yet.

Crackingowlsanctuary · 17/01/2022 12:51

Yes I will and I can not wait.

User135644 · 17/01/2022 12:53

I'll always wear one. It guards against colds and viruses.

ElftonWednesday · 17/01/2022 12:53

What I will carry on doing though is being more careful about hand-washing and will still use my own sanitiser. I think this has really helped in stopping from getting bugs/viruses in places like the gym or from public transport. I always wash my hand now as well after I open a delivery parcel whereas I probably didn't in the past. I'm not planning to stop doing that.

Karenetta · 17/01/2022 12:54

What's the point of asking the question only to people who agree with you? Obviously you know that some do agree with you already. This thread won't tell you anything more than that.

littlepeas · 17/01/2022 12:54

@Chureghy

Can't wait until the pointless virtue signalling wastes of time are consigned the bin. They're a hideous waste of money and a massive burden on the environment.
And at least some of them are made in sweat shops, so that's nice.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 17/01/2022 12:55

I don't really leave the house much so always forget the dam thing anyway. As soon as it's not required I'm not wearing one. And I didn't wear one in the summer when it wasn't required either.

polar81 · 17/01/2022 12:56

I'm not interested in a debate about masks. I'm interested in how many people are currently considering not wearing them once the mandate is lifted. If you love masks then crack on - absolutely no skin off my nose.

Care to show us the study? Whilst you look it up here are a few facts:

Size of virus 150nm
Size of holes in FFP3 mask 300nm
Size of holes in normal mask 500,000nm+

Ever notice that cloud of water vapour when you are outside on a cold day and how you still get it when wearing a mask? That should tell you all you need to know about effectiveness of non FFP3 masks.

We need to catch colds and viruses and fight them off - it is part of how our immune system functions.

I'm free to ask whatever questions I like in whatever way I like, and I'm simply asking if there are other people who will not wear masks after the mandate is lifted.

But if you only get responses from people on Mumsnet who don't want to wear them anyway, you'll have no idea how many do vs how many don't, and especially no idea about life beyond Mumsnet.

I mean, if all you want is a thread where everyone agrees with you that's fine and hopefully it will make you happy. But this won't give you any information.

Not spending my entire life on Mumsnet, I had no idea of how many people will also choose to not wear masks after the mandate is lifted.... I now have a better idea. I realise that many people will continue to choose to wear masks, but that is not what I was interested in.

Oh well glad you found a point to this exercise.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 17/01/2022 13:03

I can’t wait. I’ve got three kids under five. It’s a nightmare communicating with them in noisy shops with a mask on. My three month old cries every time I put it on too.

polar81 · 17/01/2022 13:03

Thank you so much... maybe you could go and feel superior elsewhere now Grin

I loathe tonsillitis and had it every year. Not had it since started using masks, so will carry on wearing on the germ waggon (bus) and other enclosed spaces

uggmum · 17/01/2022 13:05

I hate wearing one.
Except at the moment as I have a huge spot on my chin. So the mask covers it nicely Grin

As soon as the mask mandate is removed I will gladly ditch it.

Karenetta · 17/01/2022 13:05

Few places will ever fulfill that brief so well as this thread does though.
