I know it's unreasonable to expect everyone to stay at home but I'm about to test as a relatives husband has just tested positive. It's now come out that he is unvaccinated ....not sure why. He's told his wife that he doesn't want the vaccine 🙄Hmm

What is annoying me is that he has socialised all over Christmas with family and my parents, many who are elderly with underlying health problems and who can ill afford to get this virus.

Everyone now has to test .

Thankfully it seems everyone (apart from him) has had both vaccines and a booster. Risks of them catching it are low but not out of the realms of possibility .

Just feeling irritated that he's taken the risk of not being vaccinated and then mixed with everyone.

No point to this post apart from me letting off steam but grrrrr! So cross.

@sirfredfredgeorge

The unvaccinated are testing positive for Omicron at considerable lower rates than the vaccinated - because they are much more likely to have had a previous infection which is more protective against omicron than the vaccine.

So statistically, you are much safer meeting an unvaccinated person than a vaccinated.

Source please?
Greensmoothie1 · 28/12/2021 17:27

I know many people who are double jabbed (some had the booster) and still caught Covid and passed it to their family members. A negative test is a better indicator than simply being vaccinated.

RachC2021 · 28/12/2021 17:28

@ichundich

I'm not sure why people who haven't had 2 jabs and a booster out of choice are up in arms about being called 'the unvaccinated'? How else would you like people to refer to you?

Probably. /s

What if they’ve had all their childhood vaccines, but not the new Covid jabs? That doesn’t mean they’re “the unvaccinated” or “anti vax.”
RachC2021 · 28/12/2021 17:31

@Greensmoothie1

It doesn’t prove anything either way, as their childhood vaccinations aren’t going to been have administered by their own choice.

Is it acceptable to refer to kids as "the unvaccinated?"

Since when are we defined by our vaccine status? Why do we need to call anyone anything?

That's a very small survey considering there are currently 120,000 new cases a day.

Context is everything of course. And the context of this thread is the current Covid pandemic.

No words op

sirfredfredgeorge · 28/12/2021 17:34

Almost all of which are omicron - I'm sure you must have another source which states the opposite given your confidence that the ONS are wrong. Can you provide it?

ichundich · 28/12/2021 17:35

Can you read? I wrote 'people who haven't had 2 jabs and a booster out of choice'.

smurfsss · 28/12/2021 17:35

@Whiskyinajar

And yes I am pissed off as he mixed with the family, with a "bit of a cold" knowing he was unvaccinated. Forgive me for being annoyed about that.

And some of you need to learn to read before saying I am suggesting everyone should stay home. Do some reading about how viruses spread or have talk to some of the bereaved.

Sadly some of you won't get any understanding unless it affects you. ...and affects you badly.

I'd quite like to avoid that for my family thanks,

Out of this thread now and won't be responding anymore.

Oh dear OP.

If the health of your relatives was so important to you, why were you mixing at Christmas? Even you admit that vaccinated people can catch and spread covid too...?

This thread title is terrifying.

Can you believe we’ve come to this?

I know scary hey

.... and so quickly too Shock Sad as it has barely been a year since the world has started vaccinating.

With any luck, there will be social experiment studies written about this phenomenon.

Sunshineboo · 28/12/2021 17:36

i am triple vaccinated and have a underlying health condition that puts me at risk.

however i respect people who don't want to get the vaccine, as long as they isolate when symptoms and take LFT like everyone else.

I am flabbergasted by the number of people who did not get their kids vaccinated as children despite the fact that mumps etc spreads like wildfire and impacts the vulnerable are now up in arms about people not taking a vaccine which leaves them at risk of harm.

middleager · 28/12/2021 17:37

I caught Delta just 12 weeks after my second vaccine.
Lots of children can't have vaccines yet and are out socialising.

I know a vaccinated relative who currently has a "stinking" cold but when asked to test, laughs and asks why? She's currently mingling in lots of houses.

I know a vaccinated relative who has been 'pinged' as his son has Covid. He's out socialising.

Both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are selfishly taking risks with others' health.

Spotthedog91 · 28/12/2021 17:37

I don't mind being called unvaccinated as that is fact, but don't call me anti-vaxx. I am not anti-vax. My son has just had his newborn vaccinations.

Emerald5hamrock · 28/12/2021 17:38

It happens, the only difference is how his body responds without the vaccine.
I caught covid from DP we are both double vaccinated and passed it to the DC and my niece.

I'm not saying that the survey is wrong, but it is small and from within the first few days of Omicron being found in the UK - 1,800 cases evaluated when we currently register 120,000 a day. It's not representative and you shouldn't draw these conclusions from it, especially if you're not a qualified virologist.
middleager · 28/12/2021 17:38

So anti-Covid vax then?

Spotthedog91 · 28/12/2021 17:40

My sisters neighbour was leaving for the shops yesterday even though he has tested positive. When asked what he was doing as he's positive he said "it's OK.. I'll have my mask on". Little old unvaccinated me was flabbergasted.

XenoBitch · 28/12/2021 17:40

LaBellina:

The unvaccinated sounds like a group of people from a zombie apocalypse movie

Probably the same number of brain cells!

Wow, I bet you are pleased with yourself to come up with that gem.

buttercuplizzy · 28/12/2021 17:41

Funny how the only people i currently know with covid are fully vaccinated- almost as if they don't stop you catching or spreading the virus.

nojudgementhere · 28/12/2021 17:41

@BluebellsGreenbells

I really can’t get worked up about the unvaccinated, I’m triple jabbed and can still catch and spread it, if someone doesn’t get the jabs I think it’s only their own health they are putting at risk

Just to add, also their chance of serious illness and taking up hospital beds, which lead to restrictions for everybody!

So yes you should be bothered by those not willing to have a vaccine.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10350161/Covid-19-UK-40-Omicron-hospitalisations-unvaccinated-adults-officials-finally-reveal.html

Current hospitilisations are nationally 26% unvaccinated and 74% vaccinated so not sure why you would be only blaming the unvaccinated patients for any further restrictions?
