I know it's unreasonable to expect everyone to stay at home but I'm about to test as a relatives husband has just tested positive. It's now come out that he is unvaccinated ....not sure why. He's told his wife that he doesn't want the vaccine 🙄Hmm

What is annoying me is that he has socialised all over Christmas with family and my parents, many who are elderly with underlying health problems and who can ill afford to get this virus.

Everyone now has to test .

Thankfully it seems everyone (apart from him) has had both vaccines and a booster. Risks of them catching it are low but not out of the realms of possibility .

Just feeling irritated that he's taken the risk of not being vaccinated and then mixed with everyone.

No point to this post apart from me letting off steam but grrrrr! So cross.

Jesus wept.

Everyone I know who has caught it recently were vaccinated, I'm vaccinated yet passed it on to both parents who are also vaccinated.

sirfredfredgeorge · 28/12/2021 15:11

The unvaccinated are testing positive for Omicron at considerable lower rates than the vaccinated - because they are much more likely to have had a previous infection which is more protective against omicron than the vaccine.

So statistically, you are much safer meeting an unvaccinated person than a vaccinated.

Get a grip.

Croleeen · 28/12/2021 15:13

Another one here who's just got over Covid ( very mild) and had 3 jabs. How many more times do people need to hear the vaccine doesn't stop you getting it before they listen?

sirfredfredgeorge · 28/12/2021 15:16

'70% less likely' line seems nonsense in real life - I don't know a single vaccinated person who hasn't recently had covid

It's not nonsense, it just sounds higher than it is 'cos 70% is such a big number. Omicron is so contagious the chance for the unprotected of avoiding it is pretty much zero, so let's assume it is zero. 70% reduction from zero is still zero - so you're just as likely to catch it.

How about 5% chance of avoiding it, 70% reduction on that about 9%, or only 1 in 10 chance of avoiding it. Even with lower chances of avoiding it you still don't need many exposure situations where your chance is not something you'd actually expect to come off.

The vaccine will probably significantly reduce your chances if you visit shops and outdoors and other low risk places. If you spend time in the pub or in restaurants or house parties, then it's just not effective enough against omicron at the high prevalence it is now.

samyeagar · 28/12/2021 15:23

We had our family Christmas get together the week before Christmas, all were triple jabbed, and within the week, all of us tested positive. It was likely the filthy little unvaccinated unclean unwashed kids that the family had the audacity to bring round.

LostForIdeas · 28/12/2021 15:24

Having the vaccine doesn’t stop you from getting covid or giving to others. It might reduce it but the whole point of everyone testing is because it’s not 100%.

He went out, saw family. He wasn’t symptomatic. I imagine he might well also have done some LFT like everyone else.

I’m not sure being vaccinated would have reduced the risk at all, bar the risk to himself there.

samyeagar · 28/12/2021 15:27

@XenoBitch

If he is the only one to have tested so far, then he could have caught it off of one of you. Did you test before meeting him?

Why did you title this "The unvaccinated...." instead of something like 'unvaccinated visitor". Your choice of words is very dehumanising and divisive.

Or better yet, titled "Covid positives out socializing..."
ParkheadParadise · 28/12/2021 15:27

Do people actually go about asking if you're vaccinated?

I would never think to ask anyone if they're vaccinated 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Ohdoleavemealone · 28/12/2021 15:29

I am double vax and tested before seeing family. 36 hours later started feeling unwell and tested positive!
I have done all the right things and may still have infected others.

Lacedwithgrace · 28/12/2021 15:30

The vaccine protects those who have it and who haven't had it. You can't lock up everyone who can't or won't have the vaccine because they're just as likely to have and pass on covid as anyone else.

OliveTree75 · 28/12/2021 15:32

Maybe we should have special times when "the unvaccinated" are allowed out so as to not infect us clean people?

Rainbows246 · 28/12/2021 15:33

Fully vaccinated and boosted but plenty of my nhs colleagues who are the same currently have covid. You are likely to catch Omicron even vaccinated as it’s changed so much from delta and it’s more infectious. The boosters help but it doesn’t look like they last as long in preventing infection and that’s still only 70% at it’s peak. You can catch it from both sets of people. May be some less risk amongst the vaccinated for infection but not not complete.

The vaccines will still protect a large amount of people from serious illness and death. So if you are not vaccinated you are more at risk from possible serious Illness. People are aware of this by now and choose not to.

scottishtablet23 · 28/12/2021 15:34

Are you "vaccinated" for real?! What is he meant to do, hide away in a cave? I bet he also goes to work.... or should he not, as his family could probably just live on air? Oh dear "vaccinated", do tell what the "unvaccinated" should or shouldn't do from now on!!! We're eagerly awaiting your approval of every step we take in life.

Wonnle · 28/12/2021 15:34

People don't get the fact that just because you have been jabbed twice and then again it doesn't stop you from getting infected with Covid do they .

TheOrigRights · 28/12/2021 15:36

My adult son is unvaccinated. He does LFTs and if he tests positive he follows the law regarding isolation etc.

He might be unvaccinated but he's not a completely selfish, ignorant fool.

Skippykangaroo · 28/12/2021 15:37

Don't you mean the filthy, dirty, disease ridden peasants OP?

Pull yourself to-feckin-gether. People like you are doing more to fracture and destroy society more than someone that decided not to have a jab that might or might not stop them getting ill of Covid. Sort yourself out. Angry

lanbro · 28/12/2021 15:37

Well I'm double vaccinated plus booster and have just been for a pcr after a positive lateral flow. I either got it from dsis or xh, both of whom are also vaccinated. This new strain is rife, but hopefully mild, and will help build immunity as it rips through us all!

TheOrigRights · 28/12/2021 15:38

He had (probably) Delta in the summer and has had Omicron; the latter asymptomatically (we tested in order to visit someone).
Onesnowynight · 28/12/2021 15:39

I agree with many statements that have been made above but I can also see why you are upset. I would be too in that situation.

He’s testing though. Be careful how much you bitch and whine and let off steam else he might stop testing.

The real problem are those who are:-
a) unvaccinated by choice
b) don’t ever test
c) don’t restrict socialising at all
d) spread antivaxx nonsense to others

And to be clear, I mean individuals who meet ALL FOUR of those categories. If someone has only chosen to meet one of those categories then they’re not that much of a risk as they could be.

Whiskyinajar · 28/12/2021 15:52

Blimey I touched some nerves here didn't I?

Time to get real folks..I have the right to an opinion same as you.

If you've refused vaccination you are beyond selfish

As long as elderly relatives don't get it from him and die as a result I am good.

I still think he is bloody selfish thought

Well aware that vaccinated people get it too...that's why I don't want unvaccinated idiots hanging round my vulnerable relatives.

If 'the unvaccinated' had to stay at home the NHS would be down thousands of staff. As would countless retail outlets and countrywide infrastructure.

But yes let's make them all stay at home. See how quick the country grinds to a halt.
