PCR turn around where you live?

Ohnowhy2 · 22/12/2021 07:27

In contact on Friday to 2 people who have tested positive yesterday on LFT. I booked a PCR to be careful yesterday at 2.30pm. Spending Christmas with elderly relatives.

How long from PCR to getting the results was it for you?

So far lft negative where yet other 2 had big fat positives.

I'm east coast of Scotland, was really easy to get a slot for a PCR, we live 5 mins from the drive through and we got the results in 26 hours.

DrDreReturns · 22/12/2021 07:36

I'm in the West Midlands. I've done several for me and my family, they have all taken just over 24 hours - I think the longest wait was 30 hours.

Ohnowhy2 · 22/12/2021 08:11

Reassuring. I live in West Yorkshire so hopefully 24 hours. Done a few bern 24 hours. One was 80 hours.

I did a PCR at 12.00 on Monday (Surrey) got the result at 03.00 Tuesday, so 15hrs.

AlbertBridge · 22/12/2021 08:43

Are drive/walk-through testing centres faster than posting? If you test and post back to the urgent postboxes.

I'm guessing Christmas post takes longer?

TheChosenTwo · 22/12/2021 08:59

Really hoping it’s quick, dh and dd2 have just gone to get a pcr, they’ve both got symptoms mainly of a cold - sneezes, blocked nose, runny nose, no smell (I’m guessing because of the blocked noses) but coughing alongside it (as a result of the cold I’m sure) but we need to rule it out as relatives coming on Saturday are elderly -
Hoping the turnaround is quick, and also obviously that they are negative!
Surrey here also.

Evvyjb · 22/12/2021 09:04

I'm still waiting - 72 hours now

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/12/2021 09:08

East Midlands, my mum went for a PCR on Monday and got results less than 24 hours later.

Startrooper · 22/12/2021 09:11

18 hours here, got the results yesterday morning. Previously DS has had results in 11 hours.

I think it depends on whether there is a lab onsite at the testing centre, and some areas just have large backlogs. I’d like to think labs are working around the clock Hmm

Dogzndiamonds · 22/12/2021 09:12

Posting is definitely taking longer. I posted mine on Thursday midday and didn't get my result until Sunday evening.

Ohnowhy2 · 22/12/2021 09:42

Hopeful it’s soon. On bare rations as going away. This is the one that I am worried about as the contacts are positive.

I've posted about this before now.

I've given up!

First test Monday 13th and posted. No result sent. An hour on the phone on Saturday. Only resolution from call operator, who didn't know how to use the bar code, was to re- test.

Received and resent Monday 20th - still waiting....

Already missed one DC who was staying before Christmas.

I've had to cancel my Christmas with family as I couldn't leave them any longer without them being able to make a back up plan.

So frustrating and so sad. ☹️

Ohnowhy2 · 22/12/2021 10:27

@AshLane that Is horrible. You will be out of isolation by time tests come back.

OP posts:
AshLane · 22/12/2021 10:48

And no hope of tracking anyone else either.
I was at a work meeting and have been in schools. None of those people are aware yet. ( because I don't know if I'm positive or not).

bumblefeline · 22/12/2021 10:50

DH was about 5pm Sunday, result came back 1am on Tuesday. North Staffs.

grumpypug · 22/12/2021 10:57

West Yorkshire here, too. Tested Sunday morning. Still waiting!

Ohnowhy2 · 22/12/2021 11:44

@grumpypug was it postal or driving through. Slightly nervous now. I have plans with my partner tomorrow before hopefully I can go away. Delayed seeing him till my results comeback

It was a drive through test. They've usually come back in about 24 hours but nothing this time. 😭

Smokeahontas · 22/12/2021 11:50

Drive thru Northern Ireland on Sunday - test at 2pm, results 3.30am on Monday.

Ohnowhy2 · 22/12/2021 12:05

@grumpypug that’s horrible. Have you chased it? That happened to me once. I chased it after 4 days and they gave me my result 1 hour later

Pushkinia · 22/12/2021 12:05

I’m in the North East. My PCR at a walk through centre (in November) took 28 hours to come back. The postal PCR I had to do this week took 24 hours. Both times I had symptoms but both times I just had a bad cold!

Stuckandinamess · 22/12/2021 12:09

North West England. Test at 1pm Monday afternoon, result at 10.30 this morning (Wednesday)

MischiefManagedAlways · 22/12/2021 12:17

I’m in the south east and tested yesterday at 8am and literally just got my negative result back today. This is the third time I’ve tested since the beginning of the pandemic and oddly, it’s the quickest turnaround time I’ve had.

ImpossibleGirl86 · 22/12/2021 12:17

@AshLane sorry if I'm being daft but not sure why you've cancelled Christmas? Assuming the worst, that you tested positive on your first test, and have isolated since then awaiting results, then today would have been your 10th day of isolation so you can have Christmas as planned?

All sorts of reasons.

Still ill.
Other people needed to make their plans in time to be organised.
DC couldn't travel here, then onto friends and risk his friends Christmas.
No tree bought, no gift or food shopping done as I've not been able to go out.
Would be pretty miserable now for everyone even if the test is negative.
