I'm DONE with Covid, omicron and want to get on with my life - is anyone else with me?

coatilove · 16/12/2021 20:47

Honestly at this point I'm done with it, I'm surprised people are complying so much with mask wearing and everything else - I thought the vaccine was freedom. Turns out I was wrong.

I've had enough - I'm not wearing my mask indoors and hope if there's a lockdown every business keeps its doors open and boycotts the decision.

I'm really surprised people are being so compliant, even if they have natural immunity and have been jagged (I have now had Covid and both jabs)

I can't be selfless anymore and keep getting boosters to protect others and stopping life, constant anxiety, life I feel should be going on now. Enough sacrifices have been made.

Aware I'll get flamed, but at the end of my tether with all of this now.

There are plenty of diseases that kill people, we have to accept the death rate now enough is enough.

If you've been vaccinated then what else do you intend to do? If you haven't then more fool you.
@strawberriesarenot what would you say if the speed limit reduced to 20mph to save people dying in road traffic accidents? You'd say you'll take your chances - why is this different?
Sorry, I was just setting fire to my neighbour's hedge. Should have done it years ago. What were you asking again?

nordica · 16/12/2021 21:54

If we're making a list, I'm also done with storms, floods, dust, limescale and milk going off. Grin

Seriously though, I don't think we stand a chance dealing with climate change and how that will impact our lives if people are this dramatic about wearing a mask and getting a vaccine. It's a virus, it doesn't go away just because you a throw a tantrum about it.

LakieLady · 16/12/2021 21:55

I'm sorry about your friend, @Theworldisfullofgs. Flowers

What??!!!

Thewiseoneincognito · 16/12/2021 21:55

LOL not this echo chamber again. 😂

OP bless you in your futile attempt at trying to rally the nation (MN) against following the rules to prevent massive sickness and chaos. Do you text your anti restrictions friends to pop along to post on your thread?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/12/2021 21:56

Why not? What's the hardship for you having a booster even it's every 6 months?

This sulky toddler shit is so ignorant. There are countries where vaccines aren't available and here we are with our first world privilege wanting a fucking medal for turning up at the vaccination centre.

I'm not a sulky toddler or ignorant and I don't want a medal. I have a needle phobia so please fuck off with your ridiculous comments and maybe think before you post when you don't know the story.

MasterGland · 16/12/2021 21:56

I'm taking the "it could be worse approach". Imagine if it had been bovine anthrax that had crossed to humans or perhaps a disease that used an animal vector AND spread by aerosols, like Yersinia pestis (only at the end when you were on your last legs). The Black Death was actually both these diseases, occurring at roughly the same time. That's a bit shit. They also had some lockdowns, and a labour shortage.
Count your blessings people...and hope the next pandemic isn't worse!

housemaus · 16/12/2021 21:57

If we all stopped complying, things don't just 'get better' - you might not be wearing a mask or getting a jab, but there will be a fuckload of people ill.

Some of those people end up in hospital - a lot, if there are a lot ill. So the hospitals are full to the rafters (my cousin who's a nurse redeployed to a covid ward has lost 2 colleagues to suicide this year, because they are exhausted and scarred by watching people far too young to be dying die).

So then people like my uncle, who last weekend spent 3 hours waiting for an ambulance while he was having a heart attack, might die too.

And people like my dad, who has cancer and has had an operation pushed back to January because the hospital is cancelling anything not urgent (and it's not urgent now, but who knows how much it'll have grown by January?), might die too.

All the social workers looking after people like the tragic children you mentioned, how do you expect them to be on top of it when they're going off sick with Covid, or long covid, or getting ill because other things aren't being treated beause the medical system is flooded with covid? Or because they're off with stress and exhaustion, because their loved ones have died?

If by, you're sick of it, you mean you're sick of caring about anything except yourself, that's fine (if not selfish). But it won't magically fix anything if we all completely dropped all restrictions now. It would be absolute chaos, for a fair amount of time, with lots of excess deaths.

It's fucking shit. I know. But it's a pandemic, this is what happens, and we are in it for the long haul either way - to me, it's better to accept some mitigations to avoid unnecessary deaths of other people. If you feel differently, well I find that quite weird.

And I'm not sure why having booster vaccines bothers you so much, to be honest... would you not rather have it and be slightly safer, even though it doesn't stop you catching it altogether?

(Also, lol at the person saying 'we can't stop viruses, except smallpox' - yeah, you know how we did that? Vaccination.)

CiaoEB · 16/12/2021 21:57

Totally understandable. Feeling angry and frustrated that you do everything that’s asked but nothing seems to be making a difference is completely understandable. Don’t let people make you feel you’re being unreasonable to want to just give up trying. Just let yourself feel angry then give it a bit longer. Wear a mask and get vaccinated but don’t rush out to get boosters every month if statistics show it doesn’t make much of a difference. Don’t feel like you have to go out everywhere but go to things that you feel are really important. Don’t feel bad turning things down, don’t feel like a criminal for going out. I think it’s all about balance now, accepting life has risks, working out what you personally are comfortable with then living your life now, when your time is up it’s up.

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 16/12/2021 21:57

I feel the exact same.

Weve sacrificed our lives enough to protect the NHS, the same NHS that has had cut backs after cut backs and struggled every winter.
It was years ago where people were people seen in corridors on the floor, headlines of staff shortages, tens of thousands dying of the flu....yet we weren't locked up every winter, muzzled and coerced into god knows how many jabs.

You’re not ‘muzzled’, you’re asked to wear a mask. Fucking unbelievable.
LittleRoundRobin · 16/12/2021 21:58

I don't think we can do what we want, and sadly we HAVE to comply but I do get you, and I DO get your frustration. I have flat out had enough, and just want my old life back. I know what you mean though @coatilove ... I, and many many others thought vaccines would = our lives back. Sadly not it seems.

We cannot possibly have another lockdown though, surely not, because the economy simply cannot sustain it. MANY companies have been on the news tonight (and earlier in the week) saying if there is a lockdown, that it will finish them.

Also, ignore the snarky, sarcastic and demeaning responses on here from a few people who think they're hilarious. They're not! It's perfectly natural - and normal for you, and me (and anyone else,) to feel fucked off with it all.

I think people are entitled to' stamp their feet' as much as they like, as it's all so fucking SHIT now! I will stamp my feet and moan and gripe as much as I want about covid. I am am sick to the back teeth of it all, and sick to DEATH of hearing about it on the fucking TV, and the radio! Anyone who thinks I'm out of order for moaning can kiss my fat arse, and spin on that > 🖕

#sorrynotsorry

Northsoutheastwest76 · 16/12/2021 21:58

Look OP we are all fed up of it but ignoring won't make it go away.
I am living my life as normal except wearing masks snd giving people space. It is no hardship for me.

Genderwitched · 16/12/2021 21:59

There are always people like the OP who just can't hack it when the going gets tough. They rage about conspiracies, corrupt governments, erosion of freedoms, blah blah. The reality is they just can't go the distance when sacrifices have to be made for other people.

We could all just hold our hands up and say "I'm done", it's the governments fault for underfunding the NHS, it only affects old people etc. But the reality is, if it is just allowed to rip it's way through the population unchecked the NHS will break. And literally ALL you have to do is have a few vaccines, wear a mask and keep your distance from a few people for a while longer.

We're all fed up!!

KnottyKnitting · 16/12/2021 21:59

Oh you've had it have you? Yeah that's doesn't stop you getting it again. Having had previous variants or vaccines does not make you immune to Omicron which is hugely contagious. Good luck with that!

LobsterNapkin · 16/12/2021 21:59

@Cosmos123

I still believe that everyone's life is worth protecting so I'm not fed up with the precautions if it can save just one life it is 100% worth it.
Honestly, this is just incredibly stupid. We'd save tens of thousands of lives if we banned cars, booze, processed foods, rugby, etc, but we don't, and we won't.

Caramellatteplease · 16/12/2021 22:00

why is this different?

Drive a car 10mph above the speed limit and, should the worst happen, in the worst case scenario, the only people impacted are you, anyone in the car and anyone you hit.

It does not mean that every medical person who treats you or your victim at the crash site have an increased risk of being run over themselves anywhen in the next 10 days. And anyone they come into contact with is also suddenly at risk of being run over. It does not mean that anyone in the car suddenly has in increased risk of being run over, and anyone they come into contact with in the next 10 days.

With covid this is exactly what it means.

Exponentially growth doesn't give a fig for how fed up you are.

JustHereWithPopcorn · 16/12/2021 22:01

I agree with you!

Auntieobem · 16/12/2021 22:01

I wish I didn't have to give a shit and could just be over it. I can't. I work for nhs and am trying to help work out how we increase bed numbers, keep safe staffing levels, keep Urgent services running, keep cate home residents safe, all with no home care available, burnt out staff, isolating and sick staff. But hey OP you're fed up with it, so let's just ignore it and hope it goes away.

ChequerBoard · 16/12/2021 22:01

I do know the story.

I even congratulated you on your thread for going to get your vaccine the other day.

The sulky toddler shit is still totally unnecessary,

QueenofLouisiana · 16/12/2021 22:01

Am I fed up with it all? Completely.

Will I stop following the rules? Stop avoiding crowded spaces? Stop wearing a mask? No.

I'm triple vaccinated, I caught covid in the classroom, I am still struggling with the long term effects. Would I want someone else to catch it ? Not in the slightest.

I'd like people to stop bleating about being fed up. It's a virus, it doesn't have empathy, sympathy or the ability to hear you complain.

HailAdrian · 16/12/2021 22:02

So? Not everyone is terrified of getting covid...
