How worried are you?

On a scale of 1-10?

I'm triple vaxxed but haven't had Covid yet (lucky me)!

I'd put myself on about a 5 anxiety wise for Delta, a 7/8 for Omicron.

Just don't know who or what to believe on infection risks...

longtimemarried · 15/12/2021 18:22

Not bothered about myself but my kids have had it and that worries me very much.

Tricked2003 · 15/12/2021 18:23

I'm double jabbed and will be having my booster next week, I wish it was sooner. I have vulnerable relatives and my fear is passing something on to them more so than for myself.
I am very worried for those on the front line in the NHS.........it is falling apart and many staff are burnt out.
I fear for the people who need treatment for non-covid issues and who will die waiting.

Leftbutcameback · 15/12/2021 18:23

@twosticksandanapple - I don't really know anything about RSV. Is that a child illness? I've only ever seen it mentioned on MN. Interesting to hear that from SA.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 15/12/2021 18:23
@DynamiteFilledRadish Good to know! I definitely need more stories like these. DH is 53, Type 2 diabetic though not obese, Asian. A bad combination in the first lockdown. But we have done all we can vaccine and risk wise, so yes, no point worrying. ( but I still worry....)
Right at the beginning nearly 2 full years ago we were told "covid is a mild illness for the vast majority of people".

My mum had it pre vaccines. She was 75 at the time. She had a cold.

My niece is profoundly disabled with more health conditions than I can type out. She wasn't supposed to live beyond 5. She had it pre vaccines. A cold.

Unless you spent every minute worrying about all the zillions of other viruses pre covid then worrying about this one is just not logical.

I await the hysterics piling on and attacking me Grin

NightmareSlashDelightful · 15/12/2021 18:24

This thread is really interesting. So far we're nine pages in and the majority of posters aren't very bothered about covid as an illness (setting aside for a moment the concerns around the health service(s), lockdowns, effects on mental health and so on.)

Even a couple of months ago if someone had asked that question on this forum, I don't think we'd be seeing a majority 'not worried' response running to over nine pages.

It's interesting how the macro view is shifting.

polexiaaphrodesia · 15/12/2021 18:25

Covid 1, restrictions and return to homeschooling 11

NightmareSlashDelightful · 15/12/2021 18:25

^^ Ten pages, y'all moved on quick while I was typing that!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/12/2021 18:25

worried for my family, worried that they can remain well and can get to where they want for christmas
worried for myself, no. what will be will be.

housemaus · 15/12/2021 18:25

Covid itself - 5. DH tested positive today, I will probably have it too. Both of us have underlying conditions and I'm trying not to panic myself.

The social impact of the inevitable chaos the next 2 months things? Off the charts.

Silversun83 · 15/12/2021 18:26

2 for actual Covid
10 for impact on society, NHS, restrictions, school closures etc.

Has always been that way for me, the breakdown of society has always been my biggest fear.

rifling · 15/12/2021 18:27

Covid 1
Restrictions 8
Where I live we literally weren't allowed to leave our small flat last year and I was extremely anxious. As soon as we were allowed out I started running and haven't stopped . The freedom!

Silversun83 · 15/12/2021 18:29

@Delatron

Norovirus in November however, now that was utterly horrific.
Throughout, I've always been more afraid of the DC bringing home norovirus than Covid...
Timeisavirtue · 15/12/2021 18:32

I’m not worried, I am frustrated with the situation as is everyone, but I’m pissed off we can’t even crack on with a cold because it ‘might ‘ be covid, I’m pissed off because since she was 2 dd9 has had a cough whenever she gets a cold but now even the slightest cough has to be tested which means she has time off school which then means I get a shitty attendance letter, she had 100% attendance every school year before covid. I’m pissed off we’ve all been mugged off by our government consistently and we are back to square one.

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 15/12/2021 18:34

0 for Covid

10 for the overreaction

sydenhamhiller · 15/12/2021 18:35

@XenoBitch

Covid - 2 Restrictions etc - 9
Same. Have had covid in October 2020.

Work in primary and have 3 kids.

The impact of lockdown on them, and the y2 children I teach is immeasurable. We have a lot of vulnerable families and children, and it’s just been awful. We can’t lockdown again.

ufucoffee · 15/12/2021 18:36

Not worried about getting Covid in the slightest. Very worried about the economic implications and effects on children if we go into another lockdown/school closures and I'll be very cross if we do.

Proudtocare98542 · 15/12/2021 18:37

Worried for all the children.

fromdownwest · 15/12/2021 18:38

Lockdown - A luxury afforded by the affluent.

trumpisagit · 15/12/2021 18:38

I am probably 4 for covid, but I am very worried (10) about the NHS being overwhelmed and things generally falling apart.

fromdownwest · 15/12/2021 18:39

What I do not get, is nearly all of my friend and family mirror the majority of people on this thread. So who are the people craving lockdowns?

enjoyingscience · 15/12/2021 18:39

@NightmareSlashDelightful -I think the macro view is shifting because most people are vaccinated and we know vaccines are very effective at stopping serious illness. So the view changes and the risk changes. I guess the demographics here are skewed towards younger to middle aged people, where the vaccines will have taken the risk of death down to very very low levels, even with ore existing conditions.

I’m definitely incredibly worried about the impact of massive numbers having to isolate- the country will grind to a halt. If we reach 1m/day infections, and everyone isolates for ten days, one in 6 ish will be isolating at any given time, and it won’t be evenly distributed, it will take out whole workplaces at once. We’ll be back to the bad times of shortages and panic buying very very fast.

lockdownalli · 15/12/2021 18:39

About 7/8 as I have serious underlying health issues (heart)

Even so, I do not favour another full lockdown unless the NHS is totally unable to cope.

It's up to me to manage my exposure and my risk. I don't expect others to do that for me, aside from the basics of washing hands, wearing masks, taking LFTs regularly and social distancing.

I think vaccines, so many have had it already or their dc have, plus the harms are becoming more obvious and problematic.
Doris86 · 15/12/2021 18:43

Covid-wise - 1 Lockdown, societal consequences and such - 10
Absolutely agree.

Yep. It's the ten day thing again. That really is going to have to go.
