What are you reasons for not getting the booster?

"unfortunately the choice is being taken away from us very slowly, it's a form of control"

All laws are a form of control. That's what they are for.

They did the same with drinking and driving. It used to be up to you if you wanted to risk other people's lives and now you're required to act responsibly even if you hate it.

DressingPafe · 12/12/2021 21:31

I won’t be getting a booster. I had my first 2 jabs under sufferance due to them being needed for travel. And my vaccinator told me that many people she’d seen had said the same. But still we need expensive tests to go and return from anywhere, with the threat of £££ quarantine If you test positive. So of course I haven’t risked it.

The fact that Boris has felt the need to make an announcement to tell us all to get boosted, shows the uptake has been much lower this time. Despite the MN high level of compliance. I don’t think that is translating to people on the street. And I don’t blame them, I’m with them. The cancer comment was a very low blow. Shame on you Boris.

I’m done with jabs for now. I’ve already resigned myself to no foreign travel until 2025 at least. I’ve made my peace with it. They say they don’t know if Omicron is severe. Well nothing so far says it is. So I will wait and see. If some new super killer variant appears I may change my mind. I’m not an anti vaxxer, nor pro vaxxer. I will do what I feel is best for me at any given time.

I’m going to wait a bit and see how severe omicron proves to be. Happy to have one lot of vaccination per year but I’m really not happy about the possibility of being jabbed every few months. I had covid pre vaccine and it was less than a cold. Early 30s. Like others my periods haven’t returned to normal after the last lot and I had a few other troubling symptoms after double Pfizer. I tend towards health anxiety so for me covid is the ‘known’ whilst the vaccines seem to have a few unanswered q’s. I don’t really think we should be vaccinating people who’s risk of covid is minuscule, because it doesn’t stop it spreading. Especially whilst some countries are going without. For every other disease the protocol is to vaccinate those most at risk. I’m sure in time we will come to that point eventually.

NMC2022 · 12/12/2021 21:32

@MsWaffle

Haven't had the first 2 and won't be having the Booster Had Covid back in March 2020 so I've built up immunity Have never had a flu jab either in my 55 years Someone I know has just had her 4th vaccine as she has blood cancer Everyone should be given a choice on whether to get jabbed, unfortunately the choice is being taken away from us very slowly, it's a form of control
I'm due my 4th soon. Also had a pneumonia vaccine and a flu one this year The only bad one was the first AZ which I was unwell with but luckily due to timing it was overnight so I woke up feeling "was I ill? Was that a dream?" Grin
Newmama29 · 12/12/2021 21:32

@BackBackBack if that is the case then why are we talking about going back into restrictions again & travel bans again? I got my 2 vaccines “for the greater good” & all it’s done has made a normally healthy 26 year old have constant fatigue, colds, coughs & generally run down. I’m choosing not to get a booster because when will this end?

Chachasha · 12/12/2021 21:32

BackBackBack

Yes you're very gracious and you're right.

lightand · 12/12/2021 21:33

@Teacaketotty

I haven’t had any, no intention of having a booster either. Three jabs are essential for protection against this variant, it’ll be another new variant next Xmas that will require your 5th, 6th, 7th jab- no thanks.

Ready to be roasted but come back in a years time to this thread, happy to be proven wrong.

Same here, except will be going to the doctors[appointment permitting] to have a chat. Had long covid with blood issues. So havent had any jabs. Wasnt keen anyway.

Are people happy to get jabs every 3 months? Not going by this thread they are not.

NannaMcPhoo · 12/12/2021 21:34

I wonder how many people who were obese at the beginning of the pandemic have lost weight. Especially those calling people selfish for not wanting to take up the offer of a booster.

SnottyLottie · 12/12/2021 21:34

I’m a receptionist at a hospital. Last week I asked a man to wear a mask in the hospital (trust policy) and he proper argued with me saying he wouldn’t. I said there was a good chance that the doctor wouldn’t see him if he didn’t and he said “well I came last week and some people weren’t wearing masks and the doctors still saw them”. I said I can’t force you to wear the mask but can you at least take a mask with you because people will challenge you. He said okay, but he wasn’t going to wear the mask. He also said he had his two vaccines so he was okay, but he wasn’t going to have his booster 🤷‍♀️🤷🏼‍♂️ I still have no idea why he said that. I’ve just accepted that some people are morons and you can’t reason with them

@Cam77

We’re cruising into the middle of winter with a pandemic and a population with one of the highest rates of Vitamin D deficiency in Europe. When we know with 99.99% certainty, and have known for more than a year, that those who are Vitamin D deficient, particularly the elderly, fare considerably worse against this virus than those who not Vitamin D deficient. And yet it seems I’ve missed the huge public health campaign to ensure that everyone over 60 (or in fact ideally everyone) is getting a Big Vitamin D supplement every day. Where is it?
THIS. 5000-10,000 iu per day would save many, many lives, especially among older and darker skinned people. It could have been given out free at the end of the summer, but no. It's generic you see - no profit in it. See Dr Cohen and Dr Campbell's excellent talk last night on the properties of this incredible molecule:
LemonSwan · 12/12/2021 21:36

I am really conflicted. I am pregnant so was waiting for abit to try to get good coverage for third trimester. I decided earlier this week to finally get the booster. Today decided to go on Pfizers webpage and it clearly states anyone who had a severe allergic reaction shouldnt get another.

So my first question was well what is that? Thankfully they answered that in the next paragraph and I did have half of those symptoms.

So now I am just so fucking confused, and also annoyed at myself because I never went to the GP during my initial reaction so no ones going to believe me and will likely just say 'get it' if I ask for advice.

Its irritating and stressing me out!

inloveagain2022 · 12/12/2021 21:36

There can't be more transparency about frequency requirements or efficacy because nobody knows what they are. It's a developing situation that scientists are responding to. @megustalacerveza

And yet everyone is meant to take multiple doses of this 'drug' while they figure it all out?

flashy44 · 12/12/2021 21:36

im going to have mine this week,im not keen on having it but too many people rely on me,I have to think of the five grandchildren i provide day care for and do school runs as well as visit elderly parents four times a week,i cant let them down by falling seriously ill if a vaccine could prevent me from this.

godmum56 · 12/12/2021 21:36

@girlabouthome

Vaccine has semantics of immunity which this "jab" does not offer.

This is the best non-biased info I have found

yeah i don't find that website convincing
OfMinceAndMen · 12/12/2021 21:36

I'm as fit as a fiddle and don't need it. Yes there have been a tiny number of deaths in people like me, but not enough for me to worry about. Where is the messaging and social pressure for people to lose weight and get healthy instead, since we know that being obese is one of the main risk factors?

Hodl · 12/12/2021 21:37

Yes, in the development of the mRNA Pfizer Covid vax, HEK-293 cell line from the kidneys of an aborted girl fetus from Holland in1973 was used -an immortal cell line. Astra Zeneca and Moderna used the same cell line. The cells are not actually in the injection, but used for the development

I genuinely didn't know this.

Chachasha · 12/12/2021 21:37

The cancer comment was a very low blow.

It was the truth and shame on you for not taking responsibility.

jenn88 · 12/12/2021 21:37

Amazing how many people have had no vaccinations and refusing boosters - very interesting reading!
Im a healthcare worker, 10 weeks pregnant and I've just had my booster!
I guess everyone has to make the right choice for themselves.....

MaxNormal · 12/12/2021 21:37

ivykaty44 you don't necessarily need vaccines for travel, there's a tiny handful of countries where it's mandatory (not including covid) but generally its just up to you.

lightand · 12/12/2021 21:38

I have enjoyed a year of fine health with no jabs, since getting over Long Covid. Not at all keen to be injected with something which may make me very ill.

When the vaccines first started I kept driving past where they were done. I thought right from the off, just how often are people willing to keep coming, and rolling up their sleeves?

SallyAnn32 · 12/12/2021 21:38

No. Because I was 45,534 in the queue. Then got on and nearest appt was 95 miles away. I shit you not!

Icewiththat · 12/12/2021 21:39

Had it yesterday (my arm is so painful and lymph nodes are really swollen) and was happy to do so. I do worry about the long term end game though. Also not sure how I feel about DCs having it, which looks inevitable? If not now but once they’re 5…

Shadowboy · 12/12/2021 21:39

Not for me yet. Huge reaction to first so need to see surgeon first to confirm it’s safe for me. As long as passports don’t say you need a booster, then I’ll wait.

Postdatedpandemic · 12/12/2021 21:40

@Newmama29

Both the vaccinated and unvaccinated can spread the virus.
Both myself and Gordon Ramsey can cook food.

Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines remained effective at preventing infection with the Delta variant
Two doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca were 67% effective against infection with the Delta variant (79% with Alpha).

Two doses of Pfizer/BioNTech were 80% effective against infection with Delta (78% with Alpha).

While two doses of Pfizer/BioNTech were initially more effective, protection declined faster than with Oxford/AstraZeneca and they provided similar levels of protection after four to five months.

Both vaccines remained at least as effective as protection from prior natural infection.

Vaccine effectiveness was higher among younger adults and those who also had a prior natural infection.
