What are you reasons for not getting the booster?

@Chachasha

I just can't believe how stupid some people are.

They don't like lockdowns.

They don't like services not being available to them because overwhelmed with Covid.

They're going to their Christmas party, dammit.

They don't understand that we're damn lucky a third vaccination restores the protective power of the vaccine and their first two jabs (especially AZ) are close to worthless without it.

They don't care that Omicron moves faster than the power of people to physically get that third jab and it's a question of how much we fall behind as to how much shit we're actually in.

But no, they don't want that either.

And they'll blame Boris (I'm all for blaming Boris usually but this is more stupidity) if people die, services are overwhelmed and their children suffer because schools and extra curricular effects can't be staffed.

People are stupid.

This. Couldn’t agree more.

@LostForIdeas

I’m very hesitant because I’m wondering what is the point of getting a booster when we are also told said vaccines are not working for omicron.

If getting a booster, I’d rather have one that actually works for the variant that is predominant iyswim

It has been said that its the booster that greatly enhances the protection.
Countrybumpus · 12/12/2021 21:21

Pfizer for example have said on the last few days a third booster will give you up to 70% protection against the variant

Would that be the same Pfizer who are making a shit load of profit from selling the vaccine?

I have taken two doses but having a booster is not something I am rushing into.

I wonder how long that 70% will last before needing another booster.

JassyRadlett · 12/12/2021 21:21

^I dont understand how this can be proven, surely omicron hasn't been circulating long enough to have a definitive answer on on the effectiveness of the booster in such a short time period*

There isn’t. UKHSA (where the quoted figures come from) are very clear that the data to date is based on small numbers and subject to significant uncertainty.

It’s the best we have for now, and lines up ok with the lab data from the work done to date. But it’s far from being definitive.

MiniLucy6 · 12/12/2021 21:22

Hmm I’m not sure. I’m 26 and my first one made me feel quite unwell and I could not get out of bed, the second messed up my periods for two months (or at least I assume it was the vaccine as after it I had issues that I’ve never had since I first started having periods although they are back to normal now). I might have it but I can’t say I’m rushing or feeling overly enthusiastic about it.

@Cam77

I wouldn’t place all my trust in the private company Pfizer or in any of the other pharma companies. Is their vaccine useful to an extent against this virus? Absolutely. Do they have a huge vested interest in no other new vaccines and/or other medical methods/drugs/interventions being implemented to tackle this virus? Absolutely.
Pfizer has had to pay out 3 BILLION dollars in the past for its illegal practises. They have form.
otterlybonkers · 12/12/2021 21:22

DP had booster and flu jab together - moderna after his first two being pfizer.
He was unwell for 4 days but fine since, just in case that helps anyone.

Then again he is the kind of person you could toss a brick at and he wouldn't notice unless it was man flu. That said, neither of us had astra zenica and those we know who did have are fine.
Myself, i waited for pfizer after being strong-armed to accept astra zeneca in my late 40's. I just refused it and waited for pfizer. Anyone i spoke to about that abused me verbally.

BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 21:22

@Chachasha I keep telling myself that this comes from a place of fear, or misinformation. And try to remember that there are huge queues of people who want to be vaccinated so hopefully it will be enough to tip the scales.

I read a BBC news article earlier this week which said that apparently those in the covid wards are asking if they can get the vaccine when they realise how I'll they are, but unfortunately by then it's too late. Very sad and upsetting as in most cases it would be avoidable.

DSGR · 12/12/2021 21:23

The flu and Covid vaccines are safe to Uve at the same time.
I’m amazed some people are saying they will limit themselves to two vaccines a year. Really? Based on what science.
I do hope you’ll also refuse NHS care if you get bad Covid or our amazing intensive care units if you need them.
Just tell them you’ll be fine because you’ve already had your two vaccines for the year

Cherrypies · 12/12/2021 21:23

Thank you
I wish you well, with your treatment x

ApplesinmyPocket · 12/12/2021 21:24

Looking at the NHS schedule for vaccinating children, at 8, 12, and 16 weeks old (8 WEEKS!) with a "6-in-one" jab and considering how everyone (sane) presents their tiny babies for these vaccines as routine, and if someone posted on MN 'I'm not getting my children vaccinated!' the likely reaction, I'm just not understanding why there seem so MANY on MN who consider vaccination an EVIL thing?

Vaccinations were a complete game-changer in human existence. They made a massive difference. Possibly the most amazing medical advance ever. And yet here we are today on MN. Thread after thread of people making out they're dangerous and a secret government plot and and I'm not having one and I felt a bit sick after my first and waaaaah!!

Thank god it's mostly just on MN. Most people are queuing up to get a bit of protection against what can be a fairly nasty illness, fatal at worst.

otterlybonkers · 12/12/2021 21:24

Just to add for reference, neither of us or any family have had covid as far as we know. Except my mum last November (no symptoms).

Pfizer are just reporting an independent academic study. Please keep the silly conspiracy theories to yourself.
Teacaketotty · 12/12/2021 21:24

I haven’t had any, no intention of having a booster either. Three jabs are essential for protection against this variant, it’ll be another new variant next Xmas that will require your 5th, 6th, 7th jab- no thanks.

Ready to be roasted but come back in a years time to this thread, happy to be proven wrong.

No, I’m still trying to recover from my 2nd vaccine. I chose to get the vaccines, not because I thought that my health was actually threatened by Covid, but so that I could hopefully return to a normal life again. However, the talks of restrictions again & travel restrictions has really put me off. The vaccine isn’t stopping the spread like they said it would so I refuse to jab myself every 3-6 months when the chances of me being very ill or dying from Covid are so slim.
Are you concerned about contracting covid and passing it onto someone else who might have underlying health issues, which mean that they are at a far greater risk of serious illness or death?

@BackBackBack
Your response makes no sense; even when jabbed and boosted you can still pass the virus on

otterlybonkers · 12/12/2021 21:25

i will have my booster when i can get it but for some reason i am not pleased. I think i am just too fed up at this point and feeling a bit dystopian.

MsWaffle · 12/12/2021 21:25

Haven't had the first 2 and won't be having the Booster
Had Covid back in March 2020 so I've built up immunity
Have never had a flu jab either in my 55 years
Someone I know has just had her 4th vaccine as she has blood cancer
Everyone should be given a choice on whether to get jabbed, unfortunately the choice is being taken away from us very slowly, it's a form of control

Newmama29 · 12/12/2021 21:27

@BackBackBack even with boosters & vaccines you can pass Covid on to people. I originally got my vaccines to stop that happening but it’s been proven that we are still transmitting it when vaccinated.

Countrybumpus · 12/12/2021 21:27

Pfizer are just reporting an independent academic study. Please keep the silly conspiracy theories to yourself

So you are saying they are not making a tidy profit from the vaccine?

It is not a conspiracy theory it is a bloody fact

BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 21:27

Fact check on the Pfizer fine - which relates to two cases rather than one and appears to have been conflated for the purposes of anti-vaccine propaganda.

I support people's decisions to make their own choices about their bodies, but these decisions should be based on robust and meaningful days, rather than embellished half-truths.

Stiffcondomhat · 12/12/2021 21:29

At the moment it's a 45 minute drive each way to get a jab. Not taking time off work for it, so when they get round to offering it at my local surgery probably will.

I still don't get why I need a jab for something that's likely to be very mild for me though.

BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 21:29
@BackBackBack even with boosters & vaccines you can pass Covid on to people. I originally got my vaccines to stop that happening but it’s been proven that we are still transmitting it when vaccinated.
Yes but the rate of transmission is markedly reduced because your likelihood of being infected in the first place is much lower.

People who can be vaccinated, should, because there are clinically vulnerable people out there who either can't, or who do not derive the same protections from the vaccine because they are immunocompromised.

CatsArePeople · 12/12/2021 21:29
