What are you reasons for not getting the booster?

Oh and to reiterate. Of every one in my local hospital who is on a ventilator, not one had been vaccinated.

MiniLucy6 · 12/12/2021 22:07

I don’t see how I’m stupid or an anti Vaxer, I’ve literally had my first two and I’ve not said I won’t have this one, I’m just concerned because my last one messed up my period and the first made me ill. Are people not allowed to express concern over their health??

megustalacerveza · 12/12/2021 22:07

@DSGR

If you want the data on mixing vaccines then look up the CovBoost study. It shows they are safe - and mixing vaccines boosts protection. I’m amazed people think it’s a farce like it’s something we have control over. It’s a virus. They mutate, they can be horrible, we have to throw our medicines and science at it. Other countries would kill to be in our position, instead their people will die on the streets. How can it be mild if thousands are going to die? Mild for the majority.. not for everyone. And you don’t always know which camp you will fall into. Obviously
I'm sick to the back teeth of this country full of spoiled, coddled, entitled people who take our healthcare for granted. We're some of the luckiest people in the world, being offered world class vaccines for free, and people are fucking moaning about it.

My aunt in South America was over the moon to get jabbed with Sinopharm. It's way less effective than anything we used, but she was just happy to have anything to reduce her risk given that she works in a factory around dozens of other people every day. She can only dream of getting a booster anytime soon.

It makes me feel ashamed that so many here just take it all for granted. I guarantee that if Boris had said boosters cost £500 a go, there would be outrage, and people would be clamouring for them. People don't seem to appreciate what they're given for free.

Livelovebehappy · 12/12/2021 22:07

There’s people who are on these conspiracy sites on social media making statements like ‘.... my friend’s uncle Fred had the booster on the Friday and on the Sunday had a stroke and died. Which obviously was a result of having the booster.....’ similar statements everywhere, and i just find it astounding that people out there are actually going through this thought process. On average there are 12k deaths in the UK on a weekly basis. A large percentage of those will have had the booster recently. Think about it.

womaninatightspot · 12/12/2021 22:07

I really don't think I'll get it after my second I became really ill. Headaches, lopsided paralysis kind of like a stoke but not. I've had so many tests and am on strong anti inflammatories so I can now move, talk, hold down a job. I don't think I can risk the same thing happening again.

@megustalacerveza

Well said!

Nanny0gg · 12/12/2021 22:09

@Cherrypies

I have been double jabbed with AZ, and yet to get my booster, the reason for that, is two weeks ago, I got the flu jab. Anyone any idea, if I should leave the booster for a few weeks, for a gap, or ok to get it booked, my gp didn't really have an answer. I am working from home, have been since March 2020, so have to use public transport, and only mix with the public at the supermarket once a week on a Thursday, late, not that many people there. Also already had covid in October. Thanks
I had mine two weeks after the flu jab.

Had a sore arm (I get that whatever) but otherwise fine.

That's what happened to me. What vaccine did you have? I was rushed into hospital with a suspected stroke after a ten day non stop intensive headache that nothing touched
BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 22:12

@Onlinedilema

There is some strange thinking going on. Comparing refusing to be vaccinated with being overweight is insane. If I chose to eat a big Mac rather than a salad I am not going to kill you am I? A better comparison would be comparing it with me deciding to inject heroin, then getting in my car and driving at 90 mph along the M62. Crashing into another car and driving off, leaving the occupants to die. And yes, the occupants of the other car made the decision to go out that day. However they didn't bank on encountering me and my "I'm alright Jack" attitude. Bizarrely I do know of staunch anti vaxers, who do take drugs, totally unaware of what shit they are putting into their bodies as apparently £20 worth of crap from the local dealer is far safer than a vaccine recommended by a scientist.........
Now in bed and back on this thread!!

Yes, it's really bizarre. I got chatting to someone recently and told them I was booked for my booster (before I had it). Got a huge lecture about putting random things in our bodies blah blah. From someone who can barely move their face because they are botoxed to fuck and have lips full of filler Confused

JanisMoplin · 12/12/2021 22:13

@megustalacerveza I agree with you. This thread is hard reading for those of us from less developed countries who have lost out on the vaccine grab.

I would just like to add that many like me who took the booster and had minimal side effects obviously won't post about being perfectly fine. The nature of the internet is that people will only post about their side effects.

paranoidnamechanger · 12/12/2021 22:14

If it becomes part of the COVID passport, then yes. Until then, no.

godmum56 · 12/12/2021 22:14

@megustalacerveza

I have got social media friends in various parts of America. when vaccination started over there, there was littletgiering or organisation and people who wanted to get vaccinations for their older relatives would literally put them in the car and drive from centre to centre until they could get them a vaccine. there were online groups set up to track down and share information on where there was vaccine. they thought it was amazing here that we just had to wait to be called and could then be guaranteed vaccination AND guaranteed a second shot. Yes rollout here wasn't perfect but it was pretty bloody amazing.

BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 22:14

And yes, our good fortune to be in the UK where our vaccines are free and being urged upon is, is so frustrating when people who are eligible are turning the offer away. Meanwhile others in different countries desperately want vaccination.

AlwaysLatte · 12/12/2021 22:14

The thought of having any more than an annual vaccine is pretty shit
Why?

godmum56 · 12/12/2021 22:15

not littlegiering. little tiering

@Chachasha

I just can't believe how stupid some people are.

They don't like lockdowns.

They don't like services not being available to them because overwhelmed with Covid.

They're going to their Christmas party, dammit.

They don't understand that we're damn lucky a third vaccination restores the protective power of the vaccine and their first two jabs (especially AZ) are close to worthless without it.

They don't care that Omicron moves faster than the power of people to physically get that third jab and it's a question of how much we fall behind as to how much shit we're actually in.

But no, they don't want that either.

And they'll blame Boris (I'm all for blaming Boris usually but this is more stupidity) if people die, services are overwhelmed and their children suffer because schools and extra curricular effects can't be staffed.

People are stupid.

I am apoplectic about the idea that the first two jabs were "worthless". So we all have the third one in order to prevent Omicron from spreading. Then what? The third one turns out to be "worthless", because another variant comes along. It is time we accepted that it's going to mutate and we're stuck with variants (which will, btw, do what they do, and become more contagious and less deadly), and just got on with our lives and gave it no more thought.
godmum56 · 12/12/2021 22:19

@Cherrypies

When I went to get my booster, they were offering a flu jab at the same time. back in the summer they did research on the safety of this, the husband of a friend of mine was involved as a jabee.
Here's what the NHS says
www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-booster-vaccine/

Pasithea · 12/12/2021 22:19

Me the first two aggravated my chronic illness. Bed ridden since

godmum56 · 12/12/2021 22:20

oh PS you will need to scroll down a ways

BackBackBack · 12/12/2021 22:20

But we can't give it no more thought when the health service can't cope with the influx of critically ill covid patients, can we?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2021 22:20

Comparing refusing to be vaccinated with being overweight is insane

Is it though?
It's true that people can't catch obesity, but I thought the whole narrative was about "protecting the NHS" ... in which case the beds taken up with obesity-related illnesses and the money spent on them is surely relevant?

hamstersarse · 12/12/2021 22:20

I’ve had covid and 2 jabs
I don’t see why I need a booster

I’m not at all concerned about being hospitalised with omicron- my risk profile shows it would be so very very unlikely.

I could get it whether I have a booster or not. If I get it I can transmit it whether I have a booster or not. I don’t see the point. And surely me getting it when I don’t need it is just a total waste of resource.

losingitoverdecaf · 12/12/2021 22:21

@ApplesinmyPocket I agree with every sane word you’ve written! 🎉🎉

Darbs76 · 12/12/2021 22:21

I’m boosted, also had Covid in August. DP now has Covid, let’s see if I’ll be protected or not. Have a headache which is how it started first time. It wasn’t ‘just a cold’ for me. I remember on week 3 saying I was physically and emotionally done with Covid, it was awful and I don’t want to go through that again, so I was happy to get boosted. I’m thankful I didn’t get any long Covid issues from Covid, I was worried I would as it lingered so long.

NannaMcPhoo · 12/12/2021 22:21

The point is how can somebody who is obese and not bothered losing weight moan that people declining a booster are going to bring down the NHS?

Put down the chocolate bar and go for a run.
