Sniffing and crying?

Hate it

Yup.

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 08/12/2021 16:11

Is she a scapegoat? Willing or unwilling? They all move in the same circles, coalescing around the Speccie.

Curiouser and curiouser.

minitree · 08/12/2021 16:14

Does seem a bit strange that she's been singled out.

What about the man asking the practice questions? They were all laughing on that leaked video

I feel sorry for her. No one knows the whole ins and outs of it. Even if she was completely and utterly culpable she’s a human and has lost her job in a humiliating way.

CovidCorvid · 08/12/2021 16:21

I do feel she’s been chucked under the bus when she wasn’t even at the party but you live by the sword then you die by the sword. This is how it works in politics. Boris has to sacrifice someone to save his ass. I’ve not much sympathy for her. She might not have been there but she obviously found it funny.

Agree to an extent, but politics is a savage game. And she got played.

Well when the PM backed Cummings but she is getting the boot even though apparently there was no party it all seems a bit unfair.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 08/12/2021 16:27

She behaved appallingly on that press-conference video, I've no sympathy for her. Snivelling now because she's feeling sorry for herself. But she's bezzie mates with Rishi, Carrie et al, so she'll land on her feet I'm sure.

Queenoftheashes · 08/12/2021 16:28

Surely the crying is deliberate. She could have gotten it all out of her system before making her statement. That said, I don’t know why she’s getting sacked when she didn’t seem to be at the party or the ringleader of the comments about it.

Queenoftheashes · 08/12/2021 16:28

Is Oldfield going?

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 08/12/2021 16:30

It will have been clear to her when she took the job what sort of person Johnson is and how he operates. She just thought she wouldn't find herself at the sharp end. No sympathy from me, if you lie down with dogs, you get fleas and all that.

I don’t see why she’d even need to make a statement to camera, she’s not that important. Just have it announced.
Queenoftheashes · 08/12/2021 16:34

Yeah many of them do just tweet a resignation letter

I think the named man, Oldfield, may still go. But I do think he’s helped by the fact no one knows who he is really, aside from this video. Stratton is a much more public figure, so will get the brunt. Plus given the set up in the room, it’s her face in the papers, no one else can be seen as clearly laughing in a way that is obvious if on a front page.
Mycatispretty · 08/12/2021 16:37

I also feel sorry for her and think she made a heartfelt apology. We all make terrible mistakes throughout this life, sometimes we might get away with them and sometimes we pay the price

Very good points! She is there front and centre, an easy target, high value.

I feel for her a teeeeeeeeeeeny bit. She had to go because she looks so smug and sneery on the video - she looks like she doesn't give a shit, and she laughs and falls about. You'd have to go. But it's not actually her fault that it happened and I imagine she loved her job and is devastated. The crying didn't look self-pitying to me - just that she was very upset and realised how she came across.

I would prefer to see Boris crying and resigning when he realises how he comes across. Come on Boris.

Ohmybod · 08/12/2021 16:43

I don’t feel sorry for her in the slightest! Is she only supposed to respect the public when she’s on camera?? The whole video is representative of a party lacking moral and integrity and she has chosen to be part of that. Others should go too but I don’t feel sorry for her. As she was chuckling her ass off we missed out on a last Xmas with FIL.

grapewine · 08/12/2021 16:46

I mean, she would have known the game. This time she lost/was chucked under the bus.

Drumshambo · 08/12/2021 16:46

Utterly pathetic! The crying and snivelling. She's vile. Good riddance!

Justwhy123 · 08/12/2021 16:46

One more down, hopefully many more to follow…

OutOfCyan · 08/12/2021 16:46

I can't say I feel remotely sorry for her, especially after recently watching an interview she did with a young single mother who she speaks to in a sneering and belittling way.

She didn't have to give an press brief with her resignation, she could have just put a statement out so by doing it this way there must be some advantage to her.

MrsMadderRose · 08/12/2021 16:48

But people do laugh and joke like this about what's going on at work. In the video it's almost like she's mocking the excuses that have been made about the party, and it's clear she's fully aware that something happened that shouldn't have and it's really awkward.

I completely understand why she resigned and I think she had to, but I bet a LOT of people have a laugh with colleagues about stupid/ill-advised/dodgy goings on at work.

Yellow85 · 08/12/2021 16:49

I mean I’d probably be crying too if I’d been sacked from a £125k made up job and now had to work in the real world.

I struggle to feel sorry for her after that video. Was she the only one, no, but doesn’t make her part any less disgusting to me

This is where I am too

She sounded very upset
