What does everyone think about the banning of the unvaxxed in Germany?

Katieandthekids · 02/12/2021 21:33

I'm just interested in opinions. I personally believe that no one should ever force anyone to put something in their body.

Just as a side: I had both vaccines during my pregnancy and still not 100% sure I've done the right thing but in balance and after lots of my research believe 99% that it is fine. Totally respect the reasons people are nervous about it though.

@Sassenach85

Always ends up back at the conspiracy concept. Can we not just discuss other points without people thinking we are at opposite ends of a scale?? I know there are real anti vax people who believe in very outlandish claims etc

Most people questioning a mandated vaccine are not in that bracket. I’m afraid for our human rights.

Yes - but this issue is that these threads are overun with the idea that vaccination isn't necessary (because of misinformation & conspiracy theories)

Barely anyone is coming at this with a viewpoint that in some countries, it is a matter of urgency to increase vaccination rate, and therefore something needs to be done to try and improve this.

Well said.

I mean they seem to merrily be continuing, almost two years later, so clearly something is going right
Yeh, weird isn't it. All these extremely bright people all gone crazy at once. What's your theory @ollyollyoxenfree ?

ollyollyoxenfree · 03/12/2021 12:28

And yes - that something (IMO) shouldn't be mandatory vaccination or policies like banning someone without a previous infection/vaccination from shops, but what then?

milkyaqua · 03/12/2021 12:30

People are being misled by others making false claims that sound scientific and reasonable to the more undiscerning, and these claims are repeated ad nauseum on SM and this leads to the spreading of a type of mind virus - and people are dying because of this. It's horrible. And quite a number of people positioning themselves as superior thinkers on this and similar threads, currently, have clearly been drinking from that poisoned well.

I've already replied to this Q @churchofthepoisonmind

The fact is, yes there's a load of them, but they make up a tiny fraction of the scientific community - where you have 99.9% of "extremely bright people" converging around certain aspects of coronavirus management - like encouarging all adults without contraindications to be vaccination.

churchofthepoisonmind · 03/12/2021 12:31

Why @ollyollyoxenfree ? Germany has a high vaccination rate. Why is it so urgent to increase it?

milkyaqua · 03/12/2021 12:32

Germany does not have a high vaccination rate.

churchofthepoisonmind · 03/12/2021 12:33

Germany does not have a high vaccination rate.
Comparatively it does.
Play8063 · 03/12/2021 12:33

Great move.

Which false claims are people being misled by?
Wizzbangfizz · 03/12/2021 12:35

I find it deeply disturbing and part of a worrying acceptance of things which just are not right - and so many guileless sheep are happy about restrictions on top of restrictions.

Tittyfilarious81 · 03/12/2021 12:35

Appalled that this is happening , everyone has the right to decide if they want to be vaccinated.

Sassenach85 · 03/12/2021 12:36

Like I said earlier, it’s the idea that so many seemingly normal people become hateful, vitriolic, spiteful and vengeful around this subject. Refusing to engage in adult discussion. I’m horrified by it. I had more faith in humanity tbh.

There are awful, atrocities happening all over the world right now. Covid has been given front and centre stage but for how long?

There are people who groom and rape children where you live. You’re not allowed to know who. It’s against their human rights apparently. Do we want to start unpicking all of the areas where people are allowed rights?

Corruption and conspiracies aside. Can’t people see how easily we are handing over such basic rights?

milkyaqua · 03/12/2021 12:37

Germany has approximately 68.9 per cent of its eligible population fully vaccinated. That is not high enough to hold back a wave.

I have read that the country, with many hospitals experiencing surges and few available ICU beds left, is currently bracing for a “Code Black” scenario, meaning doctors may be forced to choose who lives and dies.

🖕🖕 Absolutely this

Which false claims are people being misled by?

Oh, you'd be doing your own research, right? Dig deeper.

userperuser · 03/12/2021 12:40

So you make a claim that people are being misled by ‘false claims’ but you aren’t prepared to say which ‘claims’ are ‘false’? And by people I assume you are referring to the unvaccinated?
ollyollyoxenfree · 03/12/2021 12:41

Well I guess the obvious fake claim is that adult vaccination is not necessary for individual or population-level protection @userperuser

milkyaqua · 03/12/2021 12:42

I am on a thread about current events in Germany, where I used to live, and which I am concerned about. I don't have the time to engage in silly arguments with people who just want to deflect and point score.

FinallySomeNormality · 03/12/2021 12:45

I genuinely don't understand any of the antivaxxer excuses so never understand why people don't just take the vaccine ... BUT ...

I find this totally wrong. We can't just segregate certain members of society ... I think that's been done historically and not turned out great in hindsight!

Oh so it’s ok for you to accuse people of making false claims without evidence? Right.
churchofthepoisonmind · 03/12/2021 12:45

If somebody had said 12 months ago that western countries would have all their elderly and vulnerable vaccinated plus many others and rates of 70 per cent, we would have all been happy with that. What has changed? Why this obsession with vaccinating us ALL now? This was never part of the deal. The only logical reason for vaccine mandates - which I would support - would be if the vaccine did not prevent spread. It does not. All arguments end there.

milkyaqua · 03/12/2021 12:47

Covid conspiracy theories are false claims. You wanted 'proof' for an article by the New York Times which provided its own proof. It is not my job to provide snide posters with sufficient evidence of anything.

I don't think anyone with a good grasp of epidemiological concepts thought this

As to why things change - it depends on the trajectory of the pandemic. Previous 'flu pandemics did not require this level of intervention because of how they developed.

The data is very very clear as to why the greater the proportion of people vaccinated, the better.
