DH has managed to book his booster today, but I can’t yet. I wonder if it’s 45+ that can book? I would be interested to know if any under 45s have successfully booked online today?

NightmareLoon · 20/11/2021 16:24

@Watsername I have and I'm 43. 2nd May was my second jab.

NightmareLoon · 20/11/2021 16:24

2nd June rather.

Watsername · 20/11/2021 16:32

Just tried again and it’s let me book for this week :)

That is really interesting and makes me wonder about the testing scandal in the SE and whether there is some connection.

Torridge (SE) is interesting because it has the highest case rate and the highest rate of the sub variant AY.4.2.

Yes I agree re Torridge. However just about the only thing UKHSA have told us about the Immensa issue is that it was down to ‘processes’ or something, isn’t it?

JanglyBeads · 20/11/2021 16:40

Scotland faces more measures in December:

lonelyplanet · 20/11/2021 16:42

Anecdotal but kids in my class this week (not SE) with postive LFT and then negative PCR so return to school. This won't help the rising case situation.

lonelyplanet · 20/11/2021 16:45

Sorry meant SW in both my previous comments!

lonelyplanet · 20/11/2021 17:45

A little more on Torridge:

I get that this is complete anecdata, but I posted on this board around September (about a month before the whole immensa debacle) about having multiple positive LFTs for my whole symptomatic stage, but 3 PCRs came back negative. ZOE sent me for an antibody test a couple of weeks later which was also negative, and have later said that one in five who tested as I did tested negative for antibodies but they believe it was genuine covid that didn't elicit antibodies. Reading this about a new undetectable strain, I'm wondering if it also renders antibodies undetectable to the current tests?

JanglyBeads · 20/11/2021 21:39

Surely antibodies are an entirely different thing though?

🤷🏻‍♀️

wintertravel1980 · 20/11/2021 22:47

I do not think anyone could really claim that any age group in Torridge was close to endemicity.

Even now cumulative reported Covid prevalence in Torridge remains low in comparison to the rest of the country - under 10,000 per 100,000 population (vs 17,000+ in high hit ares). Unfortunately, this means Torridge and other local authorities with similar "low" historic attack rates (e.g. Suffolk, Devon, Cotswolds, etc) have got large pockets of susceptible population and are likely to see Covid spikes in the future.

That doesn't explain to me why Central Beds for example is so high. One of the highest in the country when Kent 'broke' and ne of the B places that had a big Delta wave.

JanglyBeads · 21/11/2021 08:33

Just found this, explains more about PCR tests and new variants, also antibody tests.

JanglyBeads · 21/11/2021 08:51

It seems to me that LFT positives should be now be considered the “gold standard” and should override PCR results (which wouldn’t be necessary as “confirmatory” anyway).

That would need some careful messaging though Confused

lonelyplanet · 21/11/2021 08:54

I agree winter's theory doesn't explain Central Bedfordshire or a number of other places for that matter. Look at Leicestershire, they've continually been high on cases, see Hinckley for example. No historic lows there and currently one of the highest areas.

I agree.
JanglyBeads · 21/11/2021 09:19

But seeing as the govt haven’t even updated symptoms after 18mths of knowing they were different in children and a year of delta…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

JanglyBeads · 21/11/2021 09:32

Interesting on racial bias in oximeters and how that might bean excuse…

Piggywaspushed · 21/11/2021 09:47

I don't know why this is (re) breaking. It was in the news months and months ago and now Javid seems to be being given credit for noticing it.

Of all things BBC Doctors ran a a story on 'racist' soap dispensers ages ago!

Hopefully s report will look at structural issues with race and gender in medical care. The ST also running a story about difficulties in maternty care for pregnant women with Covid.

Piggywaspushed · 21/11/2021 09:49

That Twitter thread is great. The Sewell racial disparities report, what with the cricket story too, is beginning to look more and more ridiculous.

JanglyBeads · 21/11/2021 09:52

I must admit I hadn’t heard of it before piggy.

How are soap dispensers racist….?

Piggywaspushed · 21/11/2021 09:56

I posted it a while back....

Am now watching Marr : I was being a bit kind in my use of passive voice above. Javid isn't being given credit for this , he is totally taking it! He just said 'I discovered' !

The soap dispensers were the automatic ones which are used in healthcare settings so that they are touch free. They (for the same reasons as oximeters) don't recognise black skin very well.

DS did an essay yonks ago for a sociology competition in which he mentioned iatrogensis and specifically oximeters! Perhaps Javid should consult him... Grin
