Smaller increase than the last few days today, but still an increase.

1990butfeel21 · 16/11/2021 16:32

@sirfredfredgeorge tomorrow's will be key I think, to see if growth is slowing 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻or today just a blip

wintertravel1980 · 16/11/2021 18:10

I think we will know more on Thursday rather than tomorrow. I am focusing on England only since all the 4 nations currently follow slightly different trajectories.

The Thursday results will include school LFTs from Wed so we will have a pretty good idea of what is happening in schools.

For now, hospitalisation numbers (for England) continue to look good but they are largely a reflection of last week “good” case numbers.

alreadytaken · 16/11/2021 19:17

Hospitalisation rates should not in any way be referred to as "good". They are not as bad as last year but still so high that the NHS has collapsed and people are dying in ambulances or waiting for an ambulance. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59249409

TheHateIsNotGood · 16/11/2021 19:22

Can anyone provide a link so that I can get an infection by age breakdown for Torridge please?

For those not familiar with where it is, it's in NW Devon, just west of North Devon District, mostly rural with just 3 towns miles from each other. Named after it's main River.

I'd like to test my hypothesis that our huge increase in infection might be linked to the lack of booster resources. Given we've been one of the lowest areas for infection for most of the pandemic.

It's not unusual for Torridge to be left off and left out when it comes to any resource distribution as a matter of course.

JanglyBeads · 16/11/2021 19:25

It lack of boosters would only increase rates in 50+ age group in Torridge surely - OK higher rates in any age group eventually affect other age groups but surely that couldn’t be enough?

JanglyBeads · 16/11/2021 19:26

Sirfred schools can’t release individual data due to GDPR.

TheHateIsNotGood · 16/11/2021 19:27

I don't know jangly which is why I want to see some data before I stick to any assumptions.

AnyFucker · 16/11/2021 19:28

.

boys3 · 16/11/2021 19:29

timely in terms of health metrics in England, but cases first.

All these will be a 2021 v 2020 comparator graphs and reflect the seven day average, cases cover the full year and are just England overall, with one for all cases and one for pure pcrs

Admissions and Hospitalisations are both just from Aug to Dec (although full year can be shown if the demand is there); and cover England, plus the seven NHS regions.

Deaths just England overall, based on date of death, and being within 28 days of a confirmed positive. The seven day average stops a week ago to recognise the longer reporting lag.

admissions at the England level

admissions for the NHS regions in England; whilst all are below the level at this time last year there are some significant variations. East of England has only dropped below the level last year within the last few days; whereas the gap for the North East and Yorkshire is stark. Although this also serves to highlight that regional peaks last winter did not all happen at the same time.

The demographic of Torridge is an important factor too - 45+ is the majority, the child population has been declining for many years (another sphere of research).

Therefore I am not convinced that the massive increase in infection rates is school-driven, in specifically, Torridge; although it might be in other areas.

Does anyone have a link for me please?

Hospitalisation rates should not in any way be referred to as "good".

They are “good” in comparison to where they were two weeks ago. The number of patients in hospitals in England went down from 7,510 on 2/11 to 6,623 today. This is an 12% drop which is a meaningful.

boys3 · 16/11/2021 19:42

Depending how Jurgs is doing I'll create something more user friendly - maybe even numbers for context, the overall population of Torridge is ?? just under 70,000 ?? so a relatively smaller council area in population terms.

hospitalisations by region; again East of England only just starting to dip below the level this time last year; with South East only a little further under.

Hospitalisation rates are still bad, even if slightly less bad - and cases have gone back up again.

Torridge heat map is avialable here coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Torridge

and looks like a lot of age groups increasing.

boys3 · 16/11/2021 19:52

as there are some fairly big variations between the NHS region populations slightly messier rates per million graphs for admissions and hospitalisations. Seven day average from 1st October; this year only.

Even allowing for any confirmation bias on my part, it does appear that Torridge isn't completely following the English 'trend' with much higher rates of infection in the over 40s (nearly all age groups) as well as exceeding the National stats for schoolchildren.

Torridge:

England:

Could well be down to lack of booster resources - happy to hear any other suggestions.
