From the s-gene dropout on the ONS survey data, omicron may have been here a while:
mobile.twitter.com/ronnytodgers/status/1466077934045831179
I think that's because one of the older strains (either alpha or the original one) also has s-gene dropout. So this is only useful for spotting possible Omicron cases against a backdrop of 100% Delta. The older strains were still around (though dying out) in the early part of that chart

sirfredfredgeorge · 01/12/2021 18:46

The apparent falls over the last few days were just due to reporting delays?

So probably the storm Arwen as hypothesised by some here.

There was also over 10% more tests conducted on the 30th compared to the 23rd - of course that could be due to a lot more symptoms and therefore positives etc., but it could also be because of more targeted and "confirmation" testing following the Omicron announcement.

lonelyplanet · 01/12/2021 19:21

Jangly and firefliess that makes sense. The increase looks roughly in line with the AY.4.2.

lonelyplanet · 01/12/2021 19:41

The current breakdown of identified omicron cases by local authority is:

Barnet: 2
Bexley: 1
Brentwood: 1
Buckinghamshire: 1
Camden: 2
Haringey: 1
Lancaster: 1
Lewisham: 2
Liverpool: 1
Newham: 1
North Norfolk: 1
Nottingham: 1
South Cambridgeshire: 1
Sutton: 1
Three Rivers: 1
Wandsworth: 1
Westminster: 3

latest rates for English councils, showing rates per 100,000 for each of the last five weeks, plus mini column chart to highlight the peak week, plus percentage change for the most recent week - eg ending 28th November vs 21st. Marginal increase in England overall.

Then actual cases just for the first two days of last week as reported last Wednesday and for Monday and Tuesday as reported today for this week, plus percentage movement.

I start however with English regions.

Inner London - I know not really a stand-alone region still has the lowest rate; although up 15% for the last full week.

Yorks and Humber plus North West both now have lower most recent week rates than London overall. The North East very close too.

Outer London close to 400 per 100,000 and higher now than the West Midlands.

South East has the highest overall regional rate.

the case for the defence of storm Arwen (being innocent) rests.

Completely off-topic are this season's storm names a whole Hobbit / Lord of the Rings theme? Storm Bilbo next? Goodness knows what they will do if we get as far a S - Smaug, Saruman, Sauron?? The latter working well with any Beast from the East presumably.

OP posts:
sirfredfredgeorge · 01/12/2021 21:34

Barra, probably not many covid cases there I'm guessing.

The scary S will be Seán…

Firefliess · 01/12/2021 22:25

I'm hoping we don't get as far as storm Sean in one year!

sirfredfredgeorge · 01/12/2021 22:31

I think it's a bit unfair that Emmerdale and EastEnders don't make it on the list but Corrie does!

It would need 50% more storms than the record to get to Seán, but climate change will increase the frequency of storms according to the data (now this is on topic right?)

Naughtynovembertree · 01/12/2021 22:55

How strange that 1 case of omicron shows up?
Israeli doctor reckons he caught omicron ages ago here.

JanglyBeads · 01/12/2021 23:35

It was mid November wasn’t it @Naughtynovembertree? Not ages ago, especially bearing in mind incubation period.
