Austria unvaccinated lockdown

How is this expected to actually work in practice? I have only seen basic UK news articles, interested mostly to understand the practical implications.

Personal views without knowing detail: I simply don't see any way this can be achieved without infringing on personal freedoms of unvaccinated and vaccinated quite significantly. I'm very pro-vax in general and for covid, but I hope the UK doesn't start anything like this, seems like it would just have anyone digging their heels in and cause a lot of social unrest issues.

People can take local transport but not federal

So this means that people can't take the train or fly domestically and can't travel internationally.

They can't drive over the US border either

The border only opened up again recently but non US citizens need to be vaccinated

America do let their citizens travel within their own country and leave the US though if they're not vaccinated.

There is no time frame for these measures- that applies to all of the rules here.

DaisyNGO · 21/11/2021 00:16

ktel that sounds pretty drastic.☹️
@DaisyNGO. I won't have a word said against my surgeon, I went from almost being in a wheelchair in quite a bit of pain. To being able to walk as far as I like and never having any pain. He is a god. But, er, yeah, I missed out on the good stuff. As it happens I seem to have a high pain threshold so it wasn't any problem for me. I guess I was lucky. Hey, maybe he'd smeared cream cheese on the fusion? That would explain it.
I had no pain relief after my spinal surgery! Cauda equina, discectomy and laminectomy. Discharged 21hrs post op Blush
Did get excellent surgeon and food though plus my own room with an opening window. Oh and not paralysed which was the main point of it WinkGrin

DaisyNGO · 21/11/2021 01:00

I try not to think too much about the accident

But now I am thinking, I think it might have been the muscle and nerve damage that made them chuck painkillers at me, rather than the vertebrae issues?

It wasn't very helpful, as I say, my stomach wasn't having any of it.

I don't remember much about the initial pain because of it being an accident requiring emergency treatment ....but then that means I can see that previous chronic pain must be much worse.

Oof, that was depressing, bedtime I think!

Sarahschild · 21/11/2021 01:07

Why are people surprised??
In NSW in Australia you cannot go to non essential retail, hairdressers, beauticians, restaurants, cafes, pubs, gyms, markets etc with out proof of vax.
You can go to the bank, supermarket, pet shops, petrol stations without proof of vax.
Nearly all jobs require vaccination.
Over a million people protested in Australia in various locations yesterday and yes I was one of them.

Now you can all lay into me and tell me how ridiculous I am

Haha. We certainly change our priorities of what is important when we have successful operations! I had mine on the nhs but in a private hospital so got my own room and tv too. With peacocks tapping at the window! And kicked out at 11am the next morning. The nhs don't pay longer than they need to!

@DaisyNGO
I'm so glad that you're ok now. It doesn't matter how you got into the back club, it's a crap situation to be in and all of us back sufferers sympathise with you.

Sorry, went totally off piste.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all that you protested.

In my extended family, many are triple vaxed already, all double vaxed and all horrified by what is happening in some countries. We all chose vaccination. We never wanted mandatory vaccination.

I'm sure a lot of people will stand in solidarity with you.

ktel1 · 21/11/2021 01:56

Sarahschild

It's not quite that bad in Canada but not far off and is getting worse all the time.

madisonbridges · 21/11/2021 02:08

@Sarahschild. To be honest I sort of support your govt's position but I think you're far from ridiculous to have a differing view and to want to have your opinion heard and actioned.

I think it'll be a few years before some of us are saying, I think I was wrong. But which of us will be saying that is the big question.

SpringKit · 21/11/2021 05:38

I don’t think mandatory vaccination is a new concept. It’s been used in history before, and I think some countries - it’s been a requirement to control other (not Covid) diseases already.
I would say I’m in favour. It would result in less harm caused to society as a whole, and a quicker return to normality.

ColettesEarrings · 21/11/2021 06:31

Oh jesus, Topfen actually IS cream cheese! 😂 I thought you meant simply a base cream like e45 or something, not actual cream cheese! 😂😂

sourcherie · 21/11/2021 07:02

Not trolling 😂
www.thelocal.at/20150623/seven-bizarre-health-tips-austrians-swear-by/

Also no hatred from me regarding the fresh air/exercise/natural remedies people - I have to say, after all this time a lot of it’s rubbed off on me, I take a paracetamol about twice a year 😉, and lots of my friends are like this, day to day, who cares - it’s more frustration because it’s such a big part of the population, and with them and the far righters, it’s true that we’re stuck at too-low vax numbers.

Malibuismysecrethome · 21/11/2021 07:27

I had the life threatening headache after my second vaccine. I spoke to my doctors three times and could not move. I spent the week in bed. Nothing prescribed by the doctors touched the headache. This was before the potential threat of a cerebral haemorrhage was known. I’m not ok with people being vaccinated against their will I believe it should be their decision.

I have had the booster I’m not ant-vaccine, I’m very grateful we have the vaccine, but I also believe in freedom of choice.

SpringKit · 21/11/2021 07:42

@Malibuismysecrethome although of course I sympathise with what has happened to you, statistically it’s proven that it’s far, far, far more risky not to have the vaccine. And the problem with freedom of choice here is that people are making poorly educated choices - which is causing harm to others.

Malibuismysecrethome · 21/11/2021 09:05

Springkit yes you are right, I agree some people are not making informed choices.

Lostinacloud · 21/11/2021 09:37

But @SpringKit, is it actually far far more risky not to have the vaccine when you are a healthy 24 year old for example? Survival rate from covid = 99.997%, pretty good odds balanced against whatever the odds are of suffering from vaccine induced myocarditis at that age, said to be a higher probability in the under 30’s. Hence why the use of Moderna has now been banned for under 30 year olds across many countries.

Also what about those who had covid pre vaccines and didn’t need anything other than a paracetamol or two? They have shown that their risk of serious covid illness and possibility of taking up a hospital bed is zero so why should they have a vaccine they don’t need? Their body has created the antibodies to covid rather than a vaccine, what’s the difference?

You cannot generalise with what you have just said about risk. The risk varies massively according to your age and comorbidities. This fact has been forgotten or ignored throughout and has brought us to the point we are now where countries are forcing vaccination.

ktel1 · 21/11/2021 10:47

Lostinacloud- completely agree

You are well reasoned but unfortunately your points will be disregarded by most on here.

What you're saying doesn't make sense. A headache is an unpleasant immune response; it isn't life-threatening, nor is it a cerebral haemorrhage. AZ was approved in late December and not available until January with a 12 week dosing interval. The very low risk of blood clots from the first vaccine was already front page of every newspaper in March, before anyone had second AZ vaccination in the UK.

Malibuismysecrethome · 21/11/2021 14:03

MRex it does actually make sense. I had a really severe headache that was really painful and debilitating. I was prescribed several medications that usually work for severe migraine type headache and painkillers, nothing touched it.

After a couple of weeks there started to be reports of deaths from symptoms that started with a severe headache. I was then sent to the hospital and was told that although I had had this side effect there was no neurological damage.

Malibuismysecrethome · 21/11/2021 14:05

Also it was from the second dose I am ECV so I was one of the first to have it.

Dreamstate · 21/11/2021 14:29

Since they keep telling us this will be like the flu and be around for a while I don't get why they are making it mandatory.

End of the day even if your vaccinated you can still get it. It just means your symptoms will be less severe compared to someone who isn't.

We can all get covid regardless of vaccination thereof it should always still be a choice. A choice to decided what you want to put into your body.

If someone doesn't want to vaccinate themselves well that's their choice and the risk they take. It doesn't impact me whatsoever.

So im glad people are protestong, they don't own our bodies! I mean ffs ppl can decoded to have a dnr in place so their right to have a vaccine should remain.

Kikkomam · 21/11/2021 14:32

End of the day even if your vaccinated you can still get it. It just means your symptoms will be less severe compared to someone who isn't

And that's not worth being vaccinated for!?

I think you'll find mass vaccination success will impact you very favourably. It's literally how vaccines work.

Dreamstate · 21/11/2021 14:38

@Kikkomam

Well thats a decision for a person to take for themselves isn't it. Their body, their choice.

If a person wants to eat junk good and get fat and die earlier thats their choice who the hell am I to tell them otherwise.

Point being their choice really has no impact on me. Now if by being vaccinated it meant your immune and we could eradicate it then I'd agree it being mandatory but we know that's not the case.

Why do you think u get to tell other ppl what to do with their bodies and health? Who made you their dictator?

Kikkomam · 21/11/2021 14:44

I think people who think like you are selfish and stupid. You are quite at liberty to think I am a dictator.
