The cold that's going around

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 17:21

I currently have some symptoms. It's mainly a sore throat, a sinus drip at the back of the throat, a cough. The symptoms are very mild. I have a pcr booked for tomorrow so I will be able to establish is the next two days if this is covid or not.

There's a cold going around. Did anyone here experience that cold? Or any family members? What was that cold like for you?

I'm just after experiencing a dose of diarrhea and I think that's unusual with a cold. Makes me think now that this is covid.

Did anyone else experience diarrhea with that cold?

Worth doing a lateral flow test before PCR if you have any. It was the LFs that picked up my COVID, when I had cold symptoms.

xmasturkey · 31/10/2021 18:04

We all had cold. Mildly sore throat and snotty nose. It just three months ago Dh and dc had covid. Nobody got really ill and one had pcr that was negative. Also lfts were negative.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 31/10/2021 18:13

I had that - it was covid! Had it for weeks but first pcr test came back negative. Second LFT and PCR came back positive a few weeks later.

firef1y · 31/10/2021 18:16

I have the cold, negative pcr and several negative lfts

Started with a sore throat and the sniffles, then my typical cold cough. No temperature and my sense of taste/smell hasn't been affected. Did have a dodgy tummy, but think that was the amount of menthal decongestant I've taken.

PurpleDaisies · 31/10/2021 18:18

Yes. I have Covid. Positive lft confirmed with pcr. Exactly the same for dh.

CactusFlowers · 31/10/2021 18:44

I know loads of people (me included) who have had the mega cold and everyone started with a sore throat. Lots of other people with covid with similar symptoms though.

Kitcat122 · 31/10/2021 19:06

My daughter has just had "the cold ". She started with a sore throat. She had dodgy tummy and felt sick with it. Negative for Covid.

OliveTree75 · 31/10/2021 19:42

Ive just had an awful cold and had an upset stomach with it. I didn't have upset stomach with covid but my dp did

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 21:31

I don't know what this is. It's so weird. My mum is not feeling well either but it's different for her. She has headache since Wednesday and that's unusual.

Currently have an awful cough and cold - two weeks now. Bad sinuses to start with, now very snotty. Feel like it must be covid but negative pcr and several negative lfts so must be bog standard cold.

BlondieD · 31/10/2021 21:56

2 weeks is dreadful pastaparadise.

Are you doing everything you can to support your body through it like drinking plenty of fluids and taking vitamin C. I think taking zinc can be good during colds.

I usually take a lot of supplements every day and this weekend is no different. I'm eating a lot of soups, drinking plenty of fluids. I'm enjoying coconut water. I find it soothing. I'm also drinking calpol. It's soothing on the throat.

All in all my symptoms are mild.

Almost whole family got the cold, I had just a sore throat for 3 days, DS had a runny nose for a few days, poor dd experienced it all for a week and DP had it a few days. My mum had the same as me... that was the beginning of October, now DS has had another cold all half term. All negative.

Sparkle275 · 01/11/2021 06:12

My kids have had 2 mega colds back to back before they broke up for half term but tested negative on LFT and PCR. I was ill at the beginning of half term. Sore throat, hoarse voice, cough and feeling unwell but also tested negative on LFT and PCR. There's a lot of other illness spreading this winter but I think it's sensible that you are taking a PCR. Hopefully it's just a cold.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/11/2021 07:52

My mum had The Cold. She was iller with it than I was when I had Covid.

ChilliChaos · 01/11/2021 07:58

I’ve got this cold now. I’ve never felt so bad. Sore throat all the way down to my chest, horrendous cough, phlegmy, snotty, sinus pain but no blocked nose, my whole body aches. I’m on week 3 and it’s as bad today as it was at the start. Negative lft every day and negative pcr on the 20th October.

Hopeisallineed · 01/11/2021 08:01

I don’t understand, what cold? There will be more than one cold circulating. How can we possibly know which cold you mean? And some people will have it worse than others so there’s no way of telling them apart. 😳

KittenKong · 01/11/2021 08:07

That’s me - 2 weeks coughing and going to bed at 9pm! Absolutely exhausted and my neck hurts when I lie down. It’s a nasty one
SunShinesBrightly · 01/11/2021 08:07

Both DH and I have been unwell.
Stuffy nose, tiredness and headaches turned into a hacking cough. Just coming out the other side 3 weeks later.
Negative LF and PCR
Seems we’ve had a cold.

KittenKong · 01/11/2021 08:08

A cold! In the past - a week max with maybe a day in bed - not feeling like the waking dead for two weeks and counting!

CallmeHendricks · 01/11/2021 08:58

I had the most terrible cold about 3 weeks ago. First one I've had in about 3 years, so perhaps it just felt worse than it actually was.
Took numerous LFTs and 2 PCRs (as had been in contact with someone +ve as well) and all negative.

EezyOozy · 01/11/2021 09:21

I have had a cold just to see describe and have had a very sore stomach, negative PCR x 2

Tal45 · 01/11/2021 09:49

I have a cold, caught it from OH. Started with a sore throat then ear ache, then really snotty and sneezy and then cough and croaky voice. LFT was negative as was OH's. I've had it 5 days so far, OH nearer 10 days.

HSHorror · 01/11/2021 10:00

I think pcr are only 80% accurate so 1/5 told they dont have it might actually have it which would be more people when rates are high.
10% positivity and 25% in wales!

eurochick · 01/11/2021 10:59

We've all had the same, minus the squits. All tested negative. It had already gone round my child's school class with children having negative tests so we could be pretty sure it was a cold. It presented oddly though - with the cough right from the start rather than after days of snot. But it was a cold.

BlondieD · 01/11/2021 11:22

I am pleasantly surprised. I woke up this morning feeling much better. The sore throat and headache is gone. No more diarrhea. I feel much better except for a tickle at the back of the throat and I think that's making me cough sometimes.

I must admit I was dreading this and gearing myself up for sickness for a few weeks but I am feeling much much better from that sore throat.

Still going for a pcr test this morning.
