If you've had Covid who did you catch it from ?

I've just had Covid, my DS gave it to me and the whole household, he caught it from a boy on his table at school. The boy at school caught from his Nan who's a TA, who caught it from a child in her class. All the kids were infant age in so masks not applicable.

So I'm just wondering really all this hysteria about wearing a mask in the supermarket when really it's about very close contact transmission - sitting with, reading with, cuddling, lying in bed together, eating together.

I know I got it from work as I have been absolutely nowhere else.
No shops, nowhere. I’m doing a remote learning course and wanted to get ahead so have spent a couple of wks knuckling down and become a bit hermit like.
So unless I can catch it through my laptop screen, I got it from the 9 positive cases in my class at school!

Missmissmiiiiiiiiisss · 23/10/2021 01:02

March 2020 - My DD, who caught it from her nursery teacher, who caught it from her niece who had been in Italy when pandemic hit with her family.

I don’t think masks make a huge difference. I’ll wear them if I’m asked to but choose not to where I’m not required to.

Vaccinations make a massive difference. Lots of people still very vaccine hesitant or sceptic. We’d do better to be thinking of how we can be persuasive to those people.

Bunsnbobbins · 23/10/2021 01:50

From Child who caught it in school. We hadn’t been anywhere else at all and transmission chain in class was clear.

annlee3817 · 23/10/2021 02:05

From our plumber, he came round to fix the loo and as he's a friend of ours I stood chatting to him in the bathroom (no ventilation) he didn't look well at all and I put it down to stress as constantly working, he was meant to come back later that day after getting parts, but was a no show and two days later he received a positive PCR, then about ten days later I did, only tested though due to a sore tongue.

maz210 · 23/10/2021 02:11

I've currently got covid, I got it from my son who caught it from a classmate.

Atmywitsend29 · 23/10/2021 02:29

I've no idea who I caught it from.
I work in healthcare (we had an outbreak at work a few weeks after I got covid) , my DS was attending school under keyworkers provision, I'd had a Dr's appointment and then the car went in for emergency surgery. And DH worked in transport at the time. I've absolutely no idea where I caught it.

worriedatthemoment · 23/10/2021 02:48

@steppemum thats unfair they followed the guidelines and what was told and covid aymptims are also what you get with heavy cold or a c

worriedatthemoment · 23/10/2021 02:50

No one can be 100 percent where you got it from , as even if your dc got it and you went to work as well and in public transport , you could presume you got it from your dc nit may not be the case
Or your friend you see that asymptomatic so no one ever knew they had covid

EnrouteNOTonroute · 23/10/2021 03:31

I’ve never had it (afaik) and I don’t have or work with kids
I currently am wfh but until 28 weeks pregnant I was working in a hospital in a patient facing role, though I wore ffp3 mask the whole time

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/10/2021 06:45

@CiderWithLizzie

Sorry but how can anyone really know where they caught if from? It’s rife.
I can know I caught it at school because that's pretty much the only place I go. I go to school, I walk the dog in wide open fields/woods with no other people, and I go home. That's it. I don't go anywhere else!!! I caught it at school. From the known positives that I had been in contact with just before they came down with it.
debbs77 · 23/10/2021 07:00

Daughter who caught it from school.
Her only symptom was a tummy ache, and of course I sent her into school! Then her step sister tested positive a day later (before my daughter was tested) with classic symptoms. Tested the children and my daughter hsd it also. It went through our household one day at a time!

PackedintheUK · 23/10/2021 07:05

No idea.

Possibly from DS1 who was working in a public facing role at the time, but never had a positive test or any symptoms at the time (before asymptomatic testing). I'm suspicious because he was the only member of the household who didn't catch it from me.

Maybe from school where I work, but no one else tested positive at around the same time (no one caught it from me either)

I went to the hairdressers and a spin class (covid secure environments!) in the week before, but not aware of any cases there either.

Or the supermarket

Ivchangedmynameforthis · 23/10/2021 07:24

Ds caught it from a girl he sits next to in class. He gave it to DD and DH. Currently last man standing and wondering when its going to get me.

Dozer · 23/10/2021 07:27

I’ve always disliked friends and family speculating about where they caught a virus. Pointless and dull! One friend was always like it, even for minor colds, and would make negative comments to her boyfriends/husband if she thought she’d caught it from him!

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 23/10/2021 07:30

It's not that easy to know where you caught it from. It could be from someone in a shop even if you know someone else has it.

ThatsWhatI · 23/10/2021 07:30

Definitely from teen DS. Not entirely sure if he got it from School or being out

Cindi85 · 23/10/2021 07:33

First time MIL. 2nd time work.

delilabell · 23/10/2021 07:34

@Maxstrong

Yer ma
🤣🤣🤣🤣

No idea where my son got it from. He's the only one in his class who had it and neither me, dh or dd had it or got it from him

WhatIsThisPlease · 23/10/2021 07:35

I caught it from DP who caught it at work.

Maverickess · 23/10/2021 07:48

I caught it from work, doing close personal care with people we had an outbreak in the home and I tested positive 5 days after the first positive case in the residents.
We were wearing PPE as standard, but it's a dementia unit so I often get aprons, face masks etc pulled off, can't isolate people with dementia, they don't understand and so once it was in it was only a matter of time before everyone got it. The only ones who didn't had had it before. We lost one person, however they were already on the end of life pathway at the time of the outbreak.

OddestSock · 23/10/2021 08:11

Either of my daughters. My 9 year old either caught it from school or an activity she did one evening, my 11 year old caught it from her, i tested positive 9 days after my 9 year old, 6 days after my 11 year old.

mummabearfourbabybears · 23/10/2021 08:23

My daughter caught it at a wedding. Bride was positive but went ahead anyway AngryThen we saw them the day after their quarantine but no one had tested my 2yr old granddaughter and we all caught it. Not really I'll just a little off for a few days. Still annoying as it was unnecessary.

justaddcandlelight · 23/10/2021 08:42

I caught it from my dc back in January. They caught it from their df - my idiot ex who had broken covid rules and hosted a nye party 🤬

sleepingrabbits · 23/10/2021 09:01

You can know if you don't go out, wfh and the only thing you do is walk the dog in the woods. Ok maybe I caught it walking to school from a 30 second hello, but that contact is outside and considering my cuddly DS had Covid, seems 100% to be from him 4 days after his positive.

Pretty certain it was my teenage children. They got it in the last week of summer term, I tested positive on the first day of the summer holidays.
