I've just had Covid, my DS gave it to me and the whole household, he caught it from a boy on his table at school. The boy at school caught from his Nan who's a TA, who caught it from a child in her class. All the kids were infant age in so masks not applicable.

So I'm just wondering really all this hysteria about wearing a mask in the supermarket when really it's about very close contact transmission - sitting with, reading with, cuddling, lying in bed together, eating together.

From the kids. Not sure which one as it is rampant in all three schools at the moment: probably my primary-aged dc.

Just before the first lockdown I went to a party in a friend's house.
I couple there had just returned from Singapore.
Within a week the girl had to call the paramedics out with all the classic symptoms and about half the guests from the party were ill to varying degrees (thankfully nobody hospitalised)
I assumed I got it from there, but I was teaching as normal at the time, shopping and seeing family so it's difficult to tell!!

I've just caught it off the children and am in the first achy stage. Everyone that I know at the moment who has it, has caught it from their kids. No one living in the same household as a positive case has avoided getting it that I know of, including those who are double jabbed. So I appreciate that the vaccination reduces the severity of symptoms, but I can't help feeling that they have overstated it's effectiveness and it is unclear to me how much contact/distance it's effectiveness has been measured against. Certainly within close contact (households/workplaces/schools) it doesn't seem very effective at controlling the spread, but does seem effective in reducing the severity of symptoms.

From my husband but not sure where he got it from as we go out and about and he goes to work

Chisontoast · 22/10/2021 19:20

From my primary age dd

Fallagain · 22/10/2021 19:20

@Scramblinghealingdreaming

All our household caught it from our teenager who caught it from his best friend at school, who caught it from his sister in another year at school who caught it from her classmate ....

All verifiable as we werent in contact with anyone else at all.

Sure your teenager at school came into contact with more than one person in school?

A lady in the post office who wasn't wearing a mask. I was posting flu vaccination vouchers for employees. She stood really close and was the only close contact I had outside my family in the incubation period. None of my family got / had COVID. Oct 2020

Snoods · 22/10/2021 19:23

My son. Who we THINK caught it from work. A pub. He was a glass collector and the Euros were on. Several staff had it the same week.

tedsletterofthelaw · 22/10/2021 19:23

Not a clue.

Mid January lockdown, I'd not been anywhere except work where I sat in an office alone all day as everybody else was WFH. I suspect it may have come from DDs school as she also tested positive, as did DH but I had symptoms first.

Nuffaluff · 22/10/2021 19:24

From a kid in my class at school

DemBonesDemBones · 22/10/2021 19:26

From my Daughter who caught it on a coach on a school trip. Turns out several children were sent despite waiting on results of PCR tests and some parents felt that a positive PCR shouldn't be a barrier to their little darling attending. As a result most of the year group are now positive. Looking forward to half term with my other 3, who all tested negative Sad

thaegumathteth · 22/10/2021 19:28

Ds I presume caught it from school (were in Scotland and high school kids still have masks).

toocold54 · 22/10/2021 19:33

The places I know where most people have caught it are school and workplaces.

The reason (in theory) why we should be more strict in a supermarket is because at school/work we are around the same people every day so it is more contained and manageable whereas in the supermarket one person can spread it to strangers who then go off and spread it to others too and much more quickly, so it’s less easily contained.

Cuck00soup · 22/10/2021 19:34

Hairdresser - not my regular one either - who didn't wear a mask and I stupidly thought I would be OK because I was double vaxxed. Reader, I wasn't.

desperate4spring · 22/10/2021 19:36

8yo bought it home from school after her talk partner spent 2 days coughing on her.

Lindy2 · 22/10/2021 19:39

From DH who caught it from a bad outbreak at his workplace.

DilysPhyllis · 22/10/2021 19:58

From Dc at primary who got it from a classmate, there was a cluster of them who sat together who caught it from one child which then spread out to the households.

steppemum · 22/10/2021 20:33

No one living in the same household as a positive case has avoided getting it that I know of, including those who are double jabbed.

ds had it in August. None of the rest of us caught it.
dd2 and I have just had it. DD1 and dh didn't get it. Dh and I were sharing a bed and I was pretty ill. He still didn't get it.

dh and I are double vaxed, ds and dd1 have had one vaccination.

The whole point of the vaccination is that you don't die.
I felt shit for a week, I am bloody glad I am vaccinated, as I think I would have been quite ill if unvaccinated

OliveTree75 · 22/10/2021 20:36

From my DP who caught it at work in a factory, where he was covering a shift for another supervisor who was also off with covid.

IpanemaPeaHen · 22/10/2021 20:37

My school age child.

KaleJuicer · 22/10/2021 20:41

My DS who caught it from a classmate whose parents sent him in despite waiting on pcr results. For a while I tried keeping count of how many cases this one kid was responsible for - I got to about 60. All the adults who caught it off their kids were double vaxxed.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/10/2021 20:48

Pretty confident that I caught it from a work colleague who sits opposite me. She came into work after being at a friend's house on the weekend, later got a text from the friend saying she'd tested positive. Work colleague subsequently tested positive a few days later, so I got tested myself and I was also positive.

Bobholll · 22/10/2021 20:53

In December - the removal men when we moved house.

This month - a children’s birthday party. 18 adults & 10 children tested positive from that party 🙈

LaurieFairyCake · 22/10/2021 20:57

My Dh has it at the moment. I don't believe I will catch it from him as we're obviously not touching, not sleeping in the same room, making our own individual food.

The problem is with all the touchers Grin

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/10/2021 21:03

I caught it at school. No idea which particular pupil I caught it from, but in the week before I tested positive I had been in close contact with 7 year 11, 4 year 8 and 5 year 7 pupils who tested positive a day after their lessons with me. Plus a selection of sixth formers who coughed repeatedly and said "it's not covid, it's just a cold" despite not having bothered to test. So, I could have caught it from any of them.
