If you've had Covid who did you catch it from ?

I've just had Covid, my DS gave it to me and the whole household, he caught it from a boy on his table at school. The boy at school caught from his Nan who's a TA, who caught it from a child in her class. All the kids were infant age in so masks not applicable.

So I'm just wondering really all this hysteria about wearing a mask in the supermarket when really it's about very close contact transmission - sitting with, reading with, cuddling, lying in bed together, eating together.

School.
I never understand why the useless government says schools are safe.

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/10/2021 21:06

I was the only one in my household who caught it. We tested DH and both dds on day 3 and day 10 to double check but they were all clear. It may have helped that I stayed in bed the whole time rather than wandering the house. Of course, that was because I felt really, really, really ill, so was in no fit state to get out of bed.

It also annoys me that the government didn’t acknowledge the risk teachers faced at school last year and masked the figures. Now they want teenagers to get vaccines they unmask the figure and lo and behold everything teachers said last year about rates being high in schools turns out to be true…

TheLasrStraw · 22/10/2021 21:08

From my 13 year old DD.

LordEmsworth · 22/10/2021 21:10

No idea.

I live on my own. I was working from home. I had been nowhere other than supermarket and outdoors. At no point was I in close contact with anyone. So clearly it's not just about the person you're cosying up to...

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 22/10/2021 21:15

From my year 9 class at work

redferrari · 22/10/2021 21:17

From a dental check up, that's the only place I took off my maths and my dentist had to isolate the following day due to an alert from app, unfortunately I caught it and she didn't!

redferrari · 22/10/2021 21:17

Maths = mask in previous post!

March/April 2020, was doing some agency care shifts. Shortage of PPE combined with that particular home manager saying that the 6 residents just had a chest infection and carry on as normal, communal areas in full use and absolutely no chance of covid, apparently GP had said it wasn't 🤷🏻‍♀️ next day, got a call from the agency to say that the home I worked in had 6 positive cases in residents and were awaiting staff results. Tested positive and had to notify everyone in my full time office too (luckily, they were all negative and had robust procedures in place!)

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/10/2021 21:20

Either work or public transport to get to work.

Porcupineintherough · 22/10/2021 22:19

The first time I'm not 100% sure but pretty sure it was from a colleague. We had a 5 minute meeting and he started with symptoms the next day.

The second time from ds1 who was coughing and sneezing over all of us.

I'm not sure it's just about how long you spend w people, I do think some people are super spreaders.

sleepingrabbits · 22/10/2021 22:44

@LaurieFairyCake

My Dh has it at the moment. I don't believe I will catch it from him as we're obviously not touching, not sleeping in the same room, making our own individual food.

The problem is with all the touchers Grin

I think it's the close up breathers and sneezers more like, unless touch people lick their hands and put them in your mouth?

No idea. It was Cornwall in the summer and could have been anyone. Wasn't bothered 🤷‍♀️

OberthursGrizzledSkipper · 22/10/2021 23:00

The cinema in August. Whole family came down with it at the same time and it was the only place we'd been.

AlexaShutUp · 22/10/2021 23:02

I caught it from my dd. She caught it from a friend in school. The friend believes that she caught it from a teacher, who probably caught it from another pupil!

FancySomeChips · 22/10/2021 23:04

Kids in my ks1 class

savagebaggagemaster · 22/10/2021 23:08

I'm very sure I caught it from a child in my class who came into school, even though her brother had tested positive on a pcr. (Perfectly allowed according to current government policy). She had symptoms and later that morning she tested positive on an lft and on a pcr the next day.
I then gave it to my own dh and dc. They all isolated with me even though they initially had negative pcrs. Just as well as they all tested positive 4 days later.

Tiredout123 · 22/10/2021 23:17

From my y11 ds who got it from school

RestingStitchFace · 22/10/2021 23:18

My kid picked it up from the childminder's and pass it back to us.

idontlikealdi · 22/10/2021 23:50

Pretty sure we got it from a holiday park in august in the arcade with all the kids touching the grim 2ps.

Rainbowstripes · 23/10/2021 00:14

I genuinely have no idea where I caught it from - I had it when we were still in lockdown in January I lived by myself at the time hadn't seen any friends or family in the weeks before testing positive because of the lockdown and was working outside at a vaccination centre where I was always wearing a mask and never close to another person. It was really odd and I wouldn't have known I had it (no symptoms) if I wasn't tested regularly for work

Jenniferturkington · 23/10/2021 00:16

I have it at the moment. I caught it off ds (14). It’s running rampant through the schools so I’m not surprised.

CiderWithLizzie · 23/10/2021 00:19

Sorry but how can anyone really know where they caught if from? It’s rife.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 23/10/2021 00:39

I haven't had it yet (touch wood!) and the common denominator with my friendship group of people who haven't caught it, is that we're all childfree. Having no contact with kids at all, travelling by car and working from home has kept us out of it so far despite seeing people socially in small numbers. The two friends I know who have had it caught it in February 2020 at the pub.

Walkoflife · 23/10/2021 00:46

I caught it from my husband who most likely caught it from his workplace as there were lots of cases there.
