And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

Where on the BBC though? Am I blind??

MarshaBradyo · 23/10/2021 14:09

It’s personal opinion of Peter Openshaw looking at articles

He urged the public to take matters into their own hands to slow down transmission of the virus, rather than waiting for the government to reintroduce measures, including avoiding public transport and crowded spaces if possible, getting vaccinated and accepting the offer of the booster jab.

IncessantNameChanger · 23/10/2021 14:10

It's always going to be a possibility. Doesnt mean its anymore likely than it was say a month ago. Anyway they will surely tell us the day before as per the norm

@jgw1

I fear the mentioning of turkey has made me a target for home invasions.

I live in.. scotland. Yes, Scotland. Go there to find it. I mean here.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 23/10/2021 14:11

If Boris says our xmas is safe then you can be sure we're locking down.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 23/10/2021 14:13

Oh they wouldn't listen to an advisor anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much.

LovingBob · 23/10/2021 14:15

It's just a government adviser saying about a lockdown, they say lots of things that don't happen, probably hoping to put the fear into people. Looks like it's working...

MarshaBradyo · 23/10/2021 14:15

I’m pleased someone has a turkey already I’ve got to say ;

Don’t forget to thaw it out it’ll take days Grin

Oh I know, it's bloody crazy isn't it!

Economic activity is low on Christmas day so it makes sense to lockdown then. Also better to have Sundays in lockdown than Mondays.
MarshaBradyo · 23/10/2021 14:20

I don’t do turkey anymore and haven’t done frozen before but I’m intrigued by how long it takes - block solid!

Hoping it'll be successful as it's our sons first Christmas where he is actually a real little person and not just sitting there going "wtf is going on"😂
MarshaBradyo · 23/10/2021 14:24

@Sunset999 scoured bbc news, can't see anything?

You said you liked lockdown anyway.

Sunset999 · 23/10/2021 16:37

It was on there this morning but can't find now ? Only liked lockdown 1 as mentioned as gave us time to re group and re think life and slow down.

Treblebass · 23/10/2021 16:42

A frozen turkey? Good luck with that. I couldn’t believe how long that bastard stayed frozen for in my fridge.

Ended up with me popping to my local one stop on Christmas Day to buy a humble chicken.

Will there be enough chickens this Christmas for people to do that?
EvilPea · 23/10/2021 16:57

My completely baseless theory.
Masks, distancing (inc schools) will be back, work from home if you can, mix outdoors. But that’s it
We can’t afford more furlough, we are 85% vaccinated now. Assuming the boosters are rolled out quickly enough. The restrictions will stay for most of winter.

But I have nothing to base this on

Don't worry, I'll toss it in the tumble dryer for a defrost if need be😉
herecomesthsun · 23/10/2021 17:21

We have an emergency shoulder of pork in the fridge. If it comes to it, I will put it in on low overnight and hopefully we will have very tender roast pork in due course.

We also have a meat thermometer and a microwave so I am sure we can sort something out if it resists defrosting.

We don't like turkey.

We arent 85% vaccinated. 49 million out of 77 million are vaccinated. The government 85% is based on population over 12 years of age. But herd immunity takes no notice of your age. We don't have enough people vaccinated.
BirdyBirdyTweetTweet · 23/10/2021 18:02

Nah.

EvilPea · 23/10/2021 18:23

@julieca ah yes that makes sense. It was the figure I saw being bandied about on the news but hadn’t drilled it. So 85% of eligible people have been vaccinated. But not all the under 12’s.

Mind you it’s ripping through schools almost quicker than the school nurse could vaccinate
