And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

I guess if LFTs are seriously unpleasant, it's really worth avoiding getting or passing on covid? As the treatments for that, while life-saving, would be literally a lot more unpalatable.

herecomesthsun · 23/10/2021 05:26

Added to say - for those people who become most unwell with covid, of course.

MyOtherProfile · 23/10/2021 07:00

Those people objecting to sticking something up their nose for the LFT - I'm pretty sure you all do that daily when you pick your nose!

LovingBob · 23/10/2021 07:37

I can't put things up my nose as I have frequent nose bleeds so doubt I would get a proper result anyway

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 23/10/2021 08:08

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

You are in a real privilege situation then as assuming you aren’t front line as otherwise you’d probably be having to do a LFT every single day!

GreenerGrass23 · 23/10/2021 08:21

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

I wouldn't go anywhere if I had to test every time! Ive never done a test on myself as there no way I could shove something down my own throat or up my nose.
Well then you are very fortunate.

I developed cancer earlier this year. I now have to have Covid tests regularly otherwise I can't go into the hospital for my life saving chemotherapy and to see the doctors who will hopefully save my life.

My friends and family also test regularly so they don't infect me as I have a weakened immune system.

So... is there still NO WAY you could get a test? Even if it was life threatening to you or someone else???

Medievalist · 23/10/2021 08:28

I hated it at first, it made me gag and sneeze, but like anything it gets easier and now I don't mind.

I agree I found the throat swabbing was unpleasant. But you don't have to do that anymore. It's just the nose.

I don't know anyone frontline who does them every day, my mum is frontline hospital and does them twice a week.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 23/10/2021 09:03

@Waxonwaxoff0

Well all the large comps in my area have been advised by public health to do them every single day! Kids and all staff, and if we don’t we get emails and emails reminding us!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/10/2021 09:09

Fucking hell why do people have to take things so literally on here?!?

Let me rephrase my post, I wouldn’t go anywhere non essential if I had to do a LFT. If it became a condition of entry I would seriously consider whether I wanted to go there enough. Better?

Obviously medical treatment might be different, depending on what it’s for. I went to the walk in centre a few weeks ago and didn’t take an LFT and DH didn’t when he went to A&E.

Benjispruce4 · 23/10/2021 09:16

My LFTs through school are throat and nose twice a week but I can do them very easily now. I just hate the plastic waste.

jgw1 · 23/10/2021 09:55

@Medievalist

I found it seriously unpleasant. Don't say it's nothing - you might not mind it, but plenty do.

I didn't. I said it was hardly onerous. I'm sorry you find swiping the inside of your nostril seriously unpleasant. You must find life very difficult.

My understanding is that if it is not seriously unpleasant then you are not doing it correctly and therefore may as well not test anyway.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/10/2021 10:12

Rubbish. The 5 PCR tests I've had have all been administered by staff at the test site. None have been seriously unpleasant and haven't put me off having them when necessary. My problem is I wouldn't be able to do it myself, especially the throat bit.

Thanks to the person upthread who pointed out you don't need to do your throat with the new tests. Does anyone know if you can just skip that bit on the old ones or whether I need to bin them any order new ones if I ever need them?

Medievalist · 23/10/2021 10:26

Well you're wrong. Unless you're the sort of person who requires a trip to A&E for a paper cut.

Honestly - order the new NOSE ONLY LFTs and follow the instructions.

Going by the history of comments on this board, it would seem that posters that are against Covid measures generally (lockdowns, masks, vaccines, tests, distancing, etc.) will have more trouble with things like this.

If you're having a go at me I was actually quoting another poster hence the first sentence being bold!

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to effectively use the old tests to do nose only - since you've never had to swab young children's throats, just their nostrils. If it worked for them...
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/10/2021 11:54

Thanks for that @CornishGem1975, if I need one I'll do nose only.

firef1y · 23/10/2021 12:22

Ffs can we stop with the thinking just because you find something easy, doable at all or not particularly unpleasant everyone else must.
Is this the new "I quite like wearing masks so can't understand why you can't wear one"

I can just about manage to lft myself, with lots of gagging. But trying to get a swab anywhere near my NT child's throat results in vomiting, luckily he allows me to do his nose. My older ASD child is another matter, the throat again is a no no, he simply won't tolerate it. Tried the nose, and it resulted in 36hr of nosebleeds (yes I was gentle but he's prone to nosebleeds). Seriously doubt I'll be allowed anywhere near his nose with a swab in the near future.

Just saw on bbc news may be another Christmas lockdown :(

Well there aren't going to be any turkeys for Christmas because those nasty foreigners refuse to come here and work, so we may as well have a lockdown.
bjjgirl · 23/10/2021 13:56

Things I find easy-
Exercising 2 hours a day 6 days a week
Cleaning my house
despite 2 kids and a full time job

Things I find impossible
Lockdown
Masks in busy places (I faint)
Gyms being shut
Remote working

I don't expect anyone to do why I find easy, even though their health would be better and mental health improve massively because I know it is not easy for everyone, I know we all have strengths and weaknesses.

I have adhd which makes super productive and energised (as long as I stick to lists etc)
However adhd made lockdown so difficult

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 23/10/2021 13:57

Very true.

I have turkey though.

I can’t decide if it’s just media scaremongering or if the bbc are getting primed to drip feed to prepare us for it. I’m worried seeing as it’s the bbc it might be the latter.

You are one of the chosen few with turkey.
