And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

The thing is @MercyBooth different sectors are effected by the pandemic in different ways, but none of those sectors are responsible for the pandemic. Hospitality, health, travel, education, social care etc are all at the mercy of Government policy, if you aren't happy with the policy don't lay the blame with another sector, lay the blame where it belongs, with the Government.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 23:18

@katesbushh I can assure you i am teetotal and have actually never been drunk in my life. Hard to believe with the UKs drinking culture i know. Perhaps it makes ppl uncomfortable because its another way i was protecting the NHS before it was fashionable though

What i find easy to believe of pro lockdowners is they immediately jump to smear and to assume ive been drinking rather than all this shit having affected my mental health. Thats very telling.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 23:25

@Puzzledandpissedoff i agree and yes it will damage the vaccine take up.

julieca · 21/10/2021 01:20

Travel is already being affected as we are back to other countries banning our tourists.

Given we currently have the worst rates in the world per million this is not surprising. It is completely uncontrolled in the UK now.
Dishhh · 21/10/2021 03:20

@MercyBooth

Ahh someone from the State of Fear threads who has NCed no doubt. Smear ppl as far right. Yes us social housing campaigners are far right. its well known

You're trying to claim you're not far right now? You can be a campaigner for social housing (as you live there) and also be far right, you know.

Benjispruce4 · 21/10/2021 17:00

This government is once again dragging its heels and not even implementing masks despite the BMA asking them to. What hope do we have?

jgw1 · 21/10/2021 18:29

Given we currently have the worst rates in the world per million this is not surprising. It is completely uncontrolled in the UK now.

According to the stats at www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
the UK has somewhere in the region of 760 new daily cases per million of the population whereas Latvia has 1560

I am perfectly willing to accept that the way cases are tested and counted may be different in the two countries, but I doubt the differences are enough to justify the assertion that the UK has worse rates in the world.

Latvia has just entered a month long lockdown with nighttime curfew. At the current rate of increase the UK will be in the same place by the end of November.

What are the other variables though?

Rate of vaccination and percentage of antibodies

FreshFreesias · 21/10/2021 19:11

@rrhuth We don’t “have the worst rates in the world”, we just test more!
And we probably test more because of lots of lovely juicy government contracts flogging tests.
We are more likely to die of cancer than corona virus despite what Covid cultists say.
Get a grip!

FreshFreesias · 21/10/2021 19:13

@Dishhh So now anyone who questions the Tory government’s Covid cultism is “far right”? Lol.
Is this the best you can do? 🤣

More tests are done in the UK generally, yes. Not as many more to explain the high positivity though.

Come on @jgw1, you should know better than to use actual facts rather than just get swept along in the doom mongering frenzy.

worriedatthemoment · 21/10/2021 20:01

@julieca which countries have banned us ?

Sorry I forgot that many hold up as example someone who doesn't believe in experts.
julieca · 21/10/2021 20:57

UK - 2.036 deaths per million population
Latvia - 1596 deaths per million population

RobinsReliant · 21/10/2021 21:06

@HalzTangz

There won't be a national lockdown or furlough. They will bring back the mask rule and keep your distance rule though
Absolutely yes. They have to use Plan B first and foremost.
Howshouldibehave · 21/10/2021 21:09

@julieca

UK - 2.036 deaths per million population Latvia - 1596 deaths per million population
Should that be a decimal point or a comma in the UK figure?
julieca · 21/10/2021 21:11

Sorry comma.
2036 deaths per million

I suppose you haven't been around here that long. And, yes, you can question an incumbent Conservative government and still be far right. It isn't cookie-cutter description.

Are posters cross referring to other posts re:lockdowns? I've seen references where people are saying others want lockdowns, but can't see where posters have said that? I've seen some asking for some measures to avoid the train crash we are on - is that what people are referring to? I've seen some criticising some measures which are massively aiding spread (isolation of close contacts etc) - is that what's being referred to?

I don't think they'll be a lockdown. Deaths (covid/non-covid), long term illness, short and long term health/work/education impacts of policy to ensure all kids get it, exams, shitting on teachers, shitting on medical staff etc - govt is not bothered by those. I think they may bring in other measures, if NHS is even more overwhelmed, but not a full lockdown. They will bring in measures too late of course which will minimise the benefit.

I'm not sure how the story of Johnsons having a guest at Christmas broke/was found out. Does anyone know? Timing of hearing this 10 months later seems odd and will obviously piss over people's goodwill if there is another lockdown. I don't know anyone who does want a lockdown - myself included, but if they do bring it in, it will mean things will have gone even more drastically down the pan and people may be crying out for it by then. Who knows?

beentoldcomputersaysno · 22/10/2021 03:59

Oh and of course if govt pull finger out and get vaccines to teens and those who are eligible for boosters, that will help.

Anyone on MN who thinks that restrictions to stop Covid are a good idea is automatically a "lockdown lover".

Let's face it, there wasn't even a total lockdown ever during the first wave, so there's not going to be one now.

I don't like people. So lockdown is great, when is the next one? Tomorrow you say, marvellous.
