And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

Their message hasn’t changed though has it, just the nature of the delivery. Sajid is vaguely more competent than Boris but that’s not hard

Pretty sure my three year old would be able to run the country better than that buffoon.

frumpety · 20/10/2021 20:57

Universal free healthcare is when the Government make it a crime to see your mum every winter.

There fixed it for you. Every single thing that has happened in relation to the pandemic is a result of Government policy, not because a few doctors got arsey on Twitter.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 20/10/2021 20:58

@MercyBooth

There are plenty of doctors on Twitter guilt tripping the public including one a while ago calling the public dumb.

If i had behaved like that in any of my previous jobs i would have been out on my ear.

Are you saying the public isn't?

I am the only fucker in the office wearing a mask, out of nearly 100 people. The public is pretty fucking thick.

SapereAude · 20/10/2021 21:00

Mercy, you are rambling incoherently, what on earth are you talking about?

The tweet you mentioned was clearly about the stupidity of the govt opening up the country too soon (and look at where we are now as a result) Yet you insist the person (doctor?) making the comment should be sacked for denigrating his customers? But his customers are his patients, not the govt he's slagging off. Confused

The books and businesses comment someone else is going to have to decipher. Who are "the ones with books to sell?

"Universal free healthcare is when doctors make it a crime to see your mum every winter." Eh? You don't like universal free healthcare? You're the same poster whose life's work on MN is people in social housing, the homeless etc yet you don't like universal free healthcare? Doctors have made it a crime to see your Mum in winter?

Mate, either your account's been hacked or you need to put that Babycham down.

The NHS is a health service...........not a church

The NHS is not dictating Covid policy, the Government is, they alone decide what happens, the NHS is too busy trying to fit a square peg in a round hole bed wise !

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 21:03

Im teetotal
unherd.com/thepost/spare-us-the-selective-outrage-on-the-lockdown-protests/
And now you're (for the second time today) linking to a far right publication financed by, bolstered by, and fed tasty snippets by the Tory govt. Anybody linking to the alt right agit prop shit the Tories feed to Unherd really needs to be given a wide berth so that's what I'll do.
Ladies and gentlemen, the poster formally known as MercyBooth appears to be showing her true (and rather bizarre) colours.

NotMyCat · 20/10/2021 21:06

@puppeteer

People need to start taking some responsibility personally though.

People say mandate masks. But what about everyone that is at risk wearing FFP3s?

People say encourage home working, but it might be better to simply not make that extra trip to the shops at the weekend.

Or perhaps if your kids get a bit sick, keep them home and take time off just in case.

It’s not all about government.

I'm already avoiding people, wearing FFP2, having a third vaccine then probably a booster Meanwhile most of the general public are skipping around the supermarket mask free and refusing to distance, leaning over people, saying Covid is a scam and not testing any more. There's only so much I can do but when people won't even wear masks into the pharmacy 🤷🏽‍♀️ its back to bloody shielding. Again. Have we not done long enough?

It's even worse for immunocompromised now because yes we can wear mask but we are back to avoiding people as double vaccinated don't have to isolate and nobody is giving people distance

Thank you. I thought perhaps the random unrelated posts might have some hidden insight that I was missing.

Did you read the Guardian article that you linked to ?

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 21:15

You're the one linking to Unherd. Didn't you know who they are? Jeez.
frumpety · 20/10/2021 21:18

How has the social housing situation been evolving in the last 10 years ? Has it got a lot better ? Has council housing stock increased a lot ?

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 21:19

Not really Social housing has been pulled down and replaced with more expensive "affordable housing"

Ah, so you were posting about social housing when you were commenting on morrisons. That makes so much sense in a thread about whether or not there will be another lockdown. Is your point that Boris is incapable of taking a decision, which is why we won't lockdown until it is too late and we won't build social housing until it is too late?
frumpety · 20/10/2021 21:26

Ah yes the old 'affordable housing' chestnut, which basically translates as being able to sell it at 80% of current local market value.

frumpety · 20/10/2021 21:29

Which of course the developer could sell to a friend , who will rent it out for a while at market value and then could sell it at market value.

frumpety · 20/10/2021 21:31

Just checking would that be the fault of the Government or the NHS ? Wink

HalzTangz · 20/10/2021 21:35

There won't be a national lockdown or furlough. They will bring back the mask rule and keep your distance rule though

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/10/2021 21:41

What is your opinion on the NHS guilt tripping the public instead of telling the Government? It frequently looks like they are joining together to emotionally blackmail the public

Interesting question, @MercyBooth. I agree about the emotional blackmail, but then many in the NHS have always whined; it's a mindset that's too often found in public services, so I wouldn't expect them to change now there's a genuine issue

Two problems occur to me ...the first is that, having insisted they're "about to break down" every winter for years, folk may be sceptical even if it's true ... and the second is that, if we have further lockdowns, I'd expect that to harm vaccine take-up on the basis that "I had it, it's made no difference as we're back here again, so why bother?"

And the usual insistence that Boris wants to "protect the NHS" isn't my view at all. He'll protect himself wherever possible, but I sincerely believe his real intention is to cash in by selling it - an aim made easier by driving people to desperation so profound that they'll accept almost anything to get out of it

katesbushh · 20/10/2021 22:01

@MercyBooth I think you may be fibbing when you say you're teetotal...
I can just imagine your social media pages.
Dubious YouTube and far right links.

Anyway, not to derail the thread anymore that it has been. I believe if the government don't (quickly) apply some common sense and mitigation to this situation
Then lockdown is inevitable.

That might be through our traditional lockdown measures. Alas, you must stay home.
Or lockdown through the backdoor when nobody can go to the pub, shops etc as there won't be anyone staffing them as they're all off with covid.

nordica · 20/10/2021 22:04

The NHS is a health service...........not a church.

The NHS doesn't exist for its own sake - what we are really protecting is quick access to life saving treatment for everyone who may need it whenever that need may arise (i.e. potentially you or I, or our families and friends).

Obviously the state of the health service is the result of successive governments policies but there is no quick fix right now so the only option is to limit spreading a virus that can potentially take up a huge chunk of health service resources.

Thewiseoneincognito · 20/10/2021 22:06

@HalzTangz

I think it’s safe to say Rishi is probably sketching out a furlough scheme right now ready to be rolled out mid- end of November when it becomes clear some industries are not compatible with social distancing requirements.
