How soon after 6 months can people book boosters?

I had my first Covid jab start Feb, 2nd start April, so I’m just a bit over the 6 monthsfrom last jab now. DH was offered to book his booster 3 weeks ago, pretty much on the 6 months. But no one has contacted me and when I try to book online it says I’m not eligible and wait to be contacted. I was in the CEV group so I was done well in advance of my age group, though I am in the over 50 group anyway. GP surgery will not discuss Covid boosters in any shape or form. Do I just need to be patient? Am I being too hasty? I’m a teacher and in contact with an insane amount of Covid at the moment so justifiably anxious about waning immunity!

We can’t book them. They contact us at, or around, 6 months after the date of our second jab.

HanSB · 18/10/2021 01:51

There are pharmacies near me offering walk in boosters for anyone eligible over 6 months. I would check with any pharmacies you know near you that did the vaccines

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/10/2021 01:58

I got mine, six months to the day at a Walk in Centre. All they needed was to confirm eligibility.

I also got a GP invitation that day, and my NHS invitation the next day.

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/10/2021 02:00

Also in a school, totally understand the desire for booster ASAP!

480Widdio · 18/10/2021 02:06

I live in the Midlands, lots of walk in centres in our area,no need to wait to be invited.

Bagelsandbrie · 18/10/2021 05:49

I’m the same as you and can’t book mine either.

user1471530109 · 18/10/2021 06:12

Really interesting!
OP, I'm in the se.job and same classification. Tbf, my second jab was the first week in May. I had no idea there were walk in centres.

Those that have used them: do you have to live in that particular area? I live rurally so very much doubt there is one near by. But I regularly travel to Birmingham for example.
My area was behind with giving the vaccine so I'm a bit twitchy. We are doing practically weekly PCR as we are all close contacts in this household as we are all at school.

Mindymomo · 18/10/2021 07:33

I don’t know anyone who are in their 70’s and are over the 6 months who have had the booster yet. My DH’s 6 months is up this week, but can’t book on NHS, it says not eligible and GP facebook says they will contact everyone.

yikesanotherbooboo · 18/10/2021 07:51

I got called as a healthcare worker who had had their vaccine right at the start of the process , Dec/Jan.
My DM has had a letter and had hers in the same time frame but although quite of a few of my very old patients ie 85 plus have heard it seems by word of mouth that those who are younger have not.Having said that when I had mine done , in the county where I live rather than where I work , the majority of customers appeared to be in their 70s.

FingersofFish · 18/10/2021 07:55

I've been wondering about this. My grandma in her 90s hasn't been offered a booster so I've stopped visits given the numbers in school yet my CEV mum had hers exactly on 6m. They both had their first 2 vaccines together as mum is a carer for her. The GP is non committal but has booked in to come and do her flu jab.

SirensofTitan · 18/10/2021 08:00

I assume you're already done this and your area isn't putting the info online but for my parents I googled covid booster with the name of their country and it came up with all of who was eligible how to book it etc

Obviously not a help to you but might help others whose local NHS have it on their website

I volunteer at a pharmacy that does walk-in boosters. They don't require people to live in the area to receive a booster. People just have to be eligible i.e. in groups 1-9, and be at least 6 months past their 2nd dose.
DottyHarmer · 18/10/2021 09:41

Is the 6 months to the date, eg if on 2 April it’s due 2nd October, or 24 weeks? I can’t find this information anywhere.

CornishYarg · 18/10/2021 09:48

Ours do the date, so 2nd dose on 2 April would mean eligible on 2 October. But don't know if that's standard. But if it's weeks, I guess it would still be 26 weeks to wait, so it's only going to be a day or so different.
DottyHarmer · 18/10/2021 10:38

Thanks!

Zandathepanda · 18/10/2021 11:45

My Dd, a vaccination volunteer was told people had to be 182days after to receive their booster.

Upsky · 18/10/2021 11:53

Google your local CCG and look on their FB page. They will advertise walk in clinics, some will do boosters. You are supposed to be able to book online here
www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/book-or-manage-a-booster-dose-of-the-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine/

However it didn't work for DS.
My GP has texted me for a booster but not DH.

ILookAtTheFloor · 18/10/2021 11:56

It let me book when I was 180 days post 2nd jab.

I had my 2nd on 19th April.

Went to the clinic yesterday and they wouldn't jab me until tomorrow, the 19th October, as the system wouldn't let them until it had been 6 calendar months.

A bit daft. I've re-booked for tomorrow.

SparklingLime · 18/10/2021 14:31

Local pharmacy vaccination centre has just told me that the program is running about four weeks behind the JCVI’s schedule of offering just after six months. This is SW England.

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/10/2021 20:00

The walk-in I used only had the criteria of 6 months and eligible due to criteria. I'm over 50, but had my first two early due to my LA deciding my particular role fitted health and social care. The GP invitation was exactly on 6 months and the NHS the day after.

SleepyMathematician · 19/10/2021 14:26

Thanks for the tip to phone 119, I might try that.
Walk ins here say 1st and 2nd dose only though it’s tempting. When DH went for his booster he said it was pretty quiet so it seems crazy that staff are hanging about waiting just because people haven’t been given the green light yet even though they are eligible.
I’m well over the 6 months by any count of days - 2nd dose was start of April.
I’ll try to sort it in half term next week and see if I get anywhere.

This is interesting information and means it should be soon. I’m SE but I guess it might be similar.

Sorry, meant to quote this one. Being too fast!

I can't find anywhere to book them for my parents.

I've rung all the local chemists and their surgery say don't call us we'll call you.

Their six months are up.
