'No reason to think Covid will become more virulent’/'It could be like common cold by Spring'

Some positive news from people who know what they're talking about this morning.

As far as the common cold claim is concerned, there was the caveat that we have to get through winter first (wouldn't fit on my screenshot but that's all that it said, no predictions of catastrophe or anything).

Yes I know there are still vulnerable people whom covid could affect badly (I'm one of them), but this is good news. Although I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell me it's not Grin

He said we had little to worry about last winter. He twists the science to sound optimistic. That wouldn't bother me if what he says has a history of coming to fruition. But it doesn't. And so I don't take what he says seriously.

I prefer to listen to people who get things right.

Well you have such a great track record there yourself

We'll only get to that point if we don't go all in and make futile attempts at suppression that will just prolong the time we get to that point..,, I'm thinking of the St Augustine of Canterbury High School in St Helens in the news for reintroducing strict Covid measures - way to go if you want Covid to still be a problem come exam season Hmm
I am convinced our academy trust is doing the exact opposite. Trying to infect every single child this side of Christmas so that we have a clear path for exam season
GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 23/09/2021 13:58

@NannyAndJohn

Pretty sure I saw the exact same article this time last year.
You saw the exact same article this time last year when there weren't any vaccines and over 90% of adults didn't have antibodies?

You're just making yourself look silly now. And proving beyond doubt that you just make stuff up.

Ah but nanny sees things the rest of us don’t.

Past the noisy data to the grim and dreadful truth

The sort of people whose interpretation of noisy data/maths degree enable them to 'project' 100k cases a day by 21 June/19 July/a random date yet to be confirmed, you mean?

Are you claiming to be more of an expert than the woman who developed the vaccine?

Given your record with 100,000 cases a day predictions that's rather the pot calling the kettle black isn't it.

No - we need to let the kids get that chance to be vaccinated rather than getting infected - if that's what they want

also the vulnerable ones haven't been fully vaccinated yet

nor have the most vulnerable teachers had boosters

PickAChew · 23/09/2021 14:06

@QueenofKattegat

Also in the news that cases, overall, are down 22% in a week.
And this is a good 2-3 weeks after schools in England have gone back, when we were expecting the opposite.

More like pot calling the kettle bleak!

TheSeventeenth · 23/09/2021 14:09

Both my daughters are off school as they have Covid - they are both absolutely fine as are half their cohorts who are also off with Covid. The worst symptom we have had is a headache - not even a mild cough.

The older daughters cohort are just completely mucking about and need to be in school, I am being the mean parent and filling in where the school is not (whilst trying to work from home).

I appreciate that some are getting very ill but my children should be at school and it is ridiculous that they are not.

Your children can't however be in school if there are no staff to teach them. If they actually have covid they need to be home and not spreading it.

My husband and I have been fully vaccinated - we are on day 8 of the girls lockdown and we have been taking daily lateral flows and any mild niggle a PCR - all have been negative - we haven't got it from our children so why would you assume the teachers would?
TheSeventeenth · 23/09/2021 14:17

The schools also aren't advising if children have been a close contact with students who have Covid this is the guidance - so it is rampaging across the school population in any case.

I spoke to Track and Trace and asked whether I should be contacting parents of children who may have been close contacts and they said no! (I sent messages on groups whatsapps in any case). They also confirmed that the schools do not need to advise!

herecomesthsun · 23/09/2021 14:17

because delta is generally very transmissable? even if you haven't picked it up?

TheSeventeenth · 23/09/2021 14:18

@herecomesthsun

But, if you have had the vaccine the likelihood of you becoming seriously ill is vastly diminished. So why would there be no staff?
bumbleymummy · 23/09/2021 14:19

@MossyBottom

It is reassuring. Does less virulent mean less transmissible or less severe?
More virulent means more severe. :)
bumbleymummy · 23/09/2021 14:20

Or less virulent means less severe! Grin

RubyFowler · 23/09/2021 14:20

Now now don't talk sense TheSeventeenth

herecomesthsun · 23/09/2021 14:23

CEV staff for example are supposed to be back in work now. Our school has almost no teachers in 1 subject, we are down several senior teachers. Covid can still potentially infect doubly vaccinated adults and they can still get quite poorly.

And that is with children following the advice to stay at home if positive.

And right at the start of term as well.

herecomesthsun · 23/09/2021 14:23

@RubyFowler

Now now don't talk sense TheSeventeenth
well she isn't is she, if she wants to send kids with covid into school
NannyAndJohn · 23/09/2021 14:27

@GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr Articles claiming that "it's just a cold" have been around since March 2020.

Let's hope this latest iteration is correct, eh?

Aposterhasnoname · 23/09/2021 14:29

Ignore nanny’s doom mongering, she’s just desperate to cling to her excuse not to leave the house for whatever reason.
