Advised twice a week at our place, here it’s said no one does it but my kid abs all her friends do so must depend on group!

MarshaBradyo · 11/09/2021 16:13

We’ve been requested to test x2 each week and have been given the tests

What was last Saturday? (I should know where to find this)

MarshaBradyo · 11/09/2021 16:14

We had 2000 LFT at Ds London school and no positives

I think secondary isn’t adding to cases much atm

notgotthehelp · 11/09/2021 16:16

@MarshaBradyo not sure what it was reported as it was the time but it's now showing as 28k!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 11/09/2021 16:18

They did two tests at school / supervised. Then test kits sent home supposed to do twice a week but school can only ask nicely not insist.

MarshaBradyo · 11/09/2021 16:19

Oh that’s good to know Not thanks

amicissimma · 11/09/2021 17:11

"What was last Saturday? (I should know where to find this)"

Last Saturday (4th) as reported on the dashboard on the day was 37,578.

I am the saddo who keeps a scruffy bit of paper with such information.

MRex · 11/09/2021 17:15

Here: coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases.
Click on "Data" in the section cases by date reported and then scroll down to the day you want.

No need to write it down - it's all on

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases

UK cases as reported by day are all there - 37,578 indeed for last Sat.

The 28k @notgotthehelp is referring to appears to be the cases by specimen date (not day reported) for last Saturday jsut for England, I think.

amicissimma · 11/09/2021 17:23

LOL, @PatriciaHolm, I like my bit of paper. And it is protection against any jiggery pokery or 'losing' that a government might possibly get up to.

Not this one, of course. I wouldn't suggest such a thing.

PatriciaHolm · 11/09/2021 17:27

:-) @amicissimma Of all the data this Gov are likely to try to play retrospective silly buggers with, the number published widely everyday probably isn't it ;-)

Autumngoldleaf · 11/09/2021 17:40

Mine did two on site tests, and now it's down to parents to keep up the tasting.

Friend at college said they were supposed to also test students but no one did.
Masks are suggested in high traffic areas but again no ones does.

ElleTheShowaddyWaddyBody · 11/09/2021 17:45

Have to admit, I’m really surprised at the low number of cases today. I seem to hear of far more local people who have Covid than during restrictions, plus with schools returning in England it’s quite surprising! Unless some have slipped down the back of the sofa again Wink

BanditoShipman · 11/09/2021 17:45

@sirfredfredgeorge

Deaths do seem to have risen and I can’t understand why as cases have been relatively stable

The case mixture changed, the mistake of just looking at cases that has been throughout, is magnified when the mix of cases changes, if you look at cases only in over 40's, you'll see the numbers have risen and deaths are following the historical cases in the vulnerable groups as far as I can see.

That is very interesting, thank you.

Is the mixture changing due to vaccine waning? Or just because it always eventually ends up in the more vulnerable groups eventually due to natural spread?

Maybe that sudden and mysterious dip in reported cases over summer was an anomaly, transmission was actually very high and these are the resulting deaths?

sirfredfredgeorge · 11/09/2021 19:20

Is the mixture changing due to vaccine waning?

Pretty sure the mixture changed because there were no restrictions, so rather everyone being equally likely to catch it at the supermarket, or from their neighbour, or via schools, it swapped to some groups being much more likely to catch it - those who went to the pub or football, and then those who went to a festival or nightclub.

ie the initial large rise in cases was from people more likely to catch it, and once it got a foothold there it spread to other age groups, but of course because the younger groups now had such a large amount of immunity because they'd already had cases they didn't continue to rise, just the older groups.

I'm not convinced there is waning immunity btw, I don't see much evidence, just evidence for poor immunity all round in the vaccination and it's only recently that there are few enough restrictions that people are likely to be infected.

Ah ok, I was assuming cases went up after no restrictions but that would mainly hit young types (nightclubs etc), so wouldn’t result in more deaths. But then obvs those high cases would make it more likely for the vulnerable to catch it and therefore higher deaths.

Prob makes more sense than immunity waning although it must be to a certain extent else the government wouldn’t be doing boosters?

everythingthelighttouches · 12/09/2021 17:22

And again today!
29,173 New cases reported and 56 deaths. I hardly dare believe, don’t understand it, but this looks great!

Bizawit · 12/09/2021 17:32

And England was less that 20k today ☺️

Bordois · 12/09/2021 17:46

"A dangerous and unethical experiment" wasn't it?

Dghgcotcitc · 12/09/2021 17:47

Strange and over 1 million tests so it’s not that! Sometimes this virus doesn’t behave how we expect! Guess we will see what the next week brings!

MarshaBradyo · 12/09/2021 17:48

I’m really hoping it’s the passing of summer surge peak.

But yes hmmm to the ‘unethical U.K. experiment’

ILookAtTheFloor · 12/09/2021 17:48

I'd love to see what it looked like if we tracked other viruses so obsessively. There's so much we don't really know, for example whether this pathogen has behaved differently from the other human coronaviruses in circulation. Or rhinovirus or whatever.

Dghgcotcitc · 12/09/2021 18:09

Oh I agree with other viruses the problem is knowing what is a high abs a low case rate and I don’t know how many cases (not hospitalisation or death) we would have with other viruses so I never know if a number is “high” as we move to the endemic phase (but which every way we look at it that is two days where number are dropping on a week in week basis where with schools going back we would have expected a raise!)
