@SpicyJalfrezi

Clearly your mum doesn’t have to use a hairdresser she is uncomfortable with for any reason, *@Lindy2*, but by the same token, the hairdresser doesn’t have to have the vaccine.

That’s how this free country works. I don’t know why there are endless arguments about it.

It is the hairdresser's choice but she shouldn't be surprised if her customers exercise their free choices and go elsewhere.

The hairdresser has lost several long standing customers because of her choice not to vaccinate.

Neverrains · 28/08/2021 09:47

I haven’t asked my hairdresser if he is vaccinated, didn’t occur to me.
I had the vaccine to protect myself.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 28/08/2021 09:50

I would. None of my business, and not everybody is going to be vaccinated (for various reasons). Vaccine isn't a cure-all anyway, but if you're so concerned, make sure you've had yours. Besides, you don't know if she has natural immunity anyway i.e. from having covid already.

SpicyJalfrezi · 28/08/2021 09:53

So her choice to not have the vaccine is presumably more important than the clients.

Whether you think that is a wise choice or not is by the by. It is not your business.

illuyankas · 28/08/2021 09:58

I do think it's ok to ask the vaccine status if you are going to spend quite a lot of time while paying for the service. Then you can make a choice to go or not. But she also has rights not to answer you.

If she is still worried about the side effects, I would give her a link to this, if you are close enough and value her. After that, it's all up to your decision. There will be people who chose not to get vaccinated for various reasons. Some are just scared, some are full blown conspiracy theorist. You nee to choose which risk is worth taking, which isn't.

I really wouldn't follow this advice because tbh it just implies you think they are thick and need to be persuaded to do the "right thing". If someone tried to convince me into any kind of medical procedure by presenting me with evidence they'd get told to mind their own bloody business.

chaosrabbitland · 28/08/2021 10:02

yes id visit her and no theres no way id ask her before hand , its just none of your business . christ is this what we have descended to ?

dworky · 28/08/2021 10:02

No.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 28/08/2021 10:06

My hairdresser is pregnant so has decided to delay getting the vaccine. I got my hair done on Thursday and it was fine. She told me though, I didn't ask.

Lindy2 · 28/08/2021 10:07

I've asked several people who I need to be in close contact with if they are vaccinated and several have told me themselves during the booking process. People like my hairdresser, dentist, optician etc. None have batted an eyelid at the question or been offended in anyway.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 28/08/2021 10:09

You have no idea whether they were offended. They might have hidden it very well.
nzborn · 28/08/2021 10:09

No

illuyankas · 28/08/2021 10:11

@Getyourarseofffthequattro
Fair enough.
Only thing I would argue is, I don't think people are thick to refuse vaccine. They are more likely to be scared or/and misinformed. I wouldn't try to persuade anyone to get vaccinated. They need to make their own decision. But if they are making it from false data and misinformation, I will try to give them scientific data which is changing right in front of your eyes, since this is happening right now.

Now it looks like the natural immunity seems to be better than immunity from vaccine, so if someone who had covid said they don't want vaccine because they already had covid, I think it's fair enough. But if someone who hasn't had covid said natural immunity is better than vaccine, then I will still say vaccine has better odds.

Lindy2 · 28/08/2021 10:14

I don't think a vaccinated person being asked if they're vaccinated gets offended.

It's the unvaccinated that have an issue with the question because they know they're in the minority and a lot of people disagree with their choice.

MareofBeasttown · 28/08/2021 10:15

My hairdresser is vaxxed but unmasked, so I am going to be going elsewhere.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/08/2021 10:15

yes in the office those who chose not to get vaccinated are looking ashamed and awkward as it has been a Way out of this

SpicyJalfrezi · 28/08/2021 10:16

It isn’t a question of being offended or not, it’s simply information absolutely no one else has a right to.

I do not like the way the vaccinated are presented as the morally good while those who have opted out - often for reasons we cannot know - are presented as the villains of the affair.

Usual2usual · 28/08/2021 10:16

She is more at risk of getting seriously ill with covid (although the risk is still tiny).

You are more of a risk to her than she is to you.

Honestly people are so fucking stupid.

Usual2usual · 28/08/2021 10:17

I'm vaccinated but god help anyone other than an HCP who dares ask me for my private medical information.

Usual2usual · 28/08/2021 10:18

*bold fail

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/08/2021 10:19

are you not vaccinated @SpicyJalfrezi

it has been advertised as the only way out, why do you not like this?

OP posts:
profpoopsnagle · 28/08/2021 10:20

It wouldn't occur to me to ask anyone their vaccination status. It's none of my business. If people tell me they're not vaccinated, it doesn't bother me.

placemats · 28/08/2021 10:21

@Ingloriousbasterd

No I wouldn't ask ...Will you be asking strangers around you in supermarkets/on buses and trains?
This isn't comparable at all. Strangers are not washing and cutting my hair. I can socially avoid in these situations with no intimate touching - yes cutting hair is an intimate procedure.

My mum (96) has a cleaner who has assured her she has had the vaccinations. Why wouldn't you assure your clients, who you depend on for a living, that you have taken all the precautions to reduce transmission? TBH I had a hair cut recently and my hairdresser asked if I was vaccinated and I said yes. He took it as honest. His living depends on him not getting covid and having to isolate.

It's nothing to do with morally good, people are asking simply because they don't want to get ill.

People have right not to get vaccinated or not to answer the question. But also people has right to minimise risk for themselves by asking.

SpicyJalfrezi · 28/08/2021 10:22

I didn’t say I didn’t ‘like it.’ I said that I didn’t like the fact that people who are not vaccinated are being presented as the villains in this affair while those who are vaccinated are the good, morally wholesome individuals.

Most people got vaccinated for their benefit, simple as.
