They'd say that children are probably going to catch covid, there is nothing to stop this happening. Lots of families will probably catch it off their children, school staff will probably catch it off children too.

Education is going to be disrupted again if the above happens. No way around it. But it could be 'over' by November when the bad weather kicks in and older folk start getting ill as per usual circumstances. At that point booster vaccs could start.

It's definitely 'an approach', but not telling people that this is the plan is unfair. Do you think people have realised this yet? Or are the Emperor's new clothes still in view?

If you are going to continue to be rude to me just do one. I'll chat to the other posters

@Peteycat please do

If kids test positive they are NOT healthy, surely? And of course they should be sent home.

Yes, your not understanding what I'm saying. Stop testing in schools. If a child is unwell, they either shouldn't be sent in (with any bug), or the teacher should send them home. This ridiculous testing of kids over and over has stopped. So hopefully education will not be disrupted.

There are such things you know such as false positives.

lonelyplanet · 29/08/2021 10:43

I think everyone on this thread is quite clear what you are saying, Pete. Fortunately most of the posters don't agree that allowing vast numbers of children to catch a potentially dangerous virus is a good thing for their health, their education or for others around them.

Peteycat · 29/08/2021 10:44

Potentially dangerous. It's not to children though, is it?

Peteycat · 29/08/2021 10:45

Allowing them to catch it? Most of them have probably been in contact with it surely by now?

CallmeHendricks · 29/08/2021 10:46

I am a teacher. I know exactly the situation in schools regarding children being sent in when ill. Parents (presumably like you) have always done so, way before Covid, and it's just wrong.
And please, it's YOU'RE (abbreviation for 'you are'), not "your."

I know, I'm just typing on my device quickly. Thanks for the English lesson, you seem eager to get back to work!

Tinpotspectator · 29/08/2021 10:53

"Whiteknighting " is a bullshit term, like "woke". Both equally politically motivated.

CallmeHendricks · 29/08/2021 10:55

"I know, I'm just typing on my device quickly."

No, you've typed it incorrectly multiple times throughout this thread, I'm afraid.

Moonface123 · 29/08/2021 11:02

What ever the government do they can't win.
We need to carry on as normal, l personally think they should stop reporting on this virus now, most is speculation and it's just causing paranoia and fear .
I don't even think we'd know they was a pandemic now if it weren't for the media.
I don't watch the news of read newspapers and this virus hasn't bothered my mental health one bit.

Your point is?

Tinpot spectator, thank you so much for sticking up for me. Some posters can't debate without being nasty.

Peteycat · 29/08/2021 11:07

@Moonface123, yes I agree with you.

Peteycat · 29/08/2021 11:11

Just googled whiteknighting, didn't know what it meant.?? Totally irrelevant cornetto ninja to this discussion.

Watapalava · 29/08/2021 11:20

moonface i totally agree

santabetterwashhishands · 29/08/2021 11:23

I think I'm resigned to the fact my kids are going to bring it home from school however careful we are ☹️
I just hope they don't get very ill 🤞

mrshoho · 29/08/2021 11:32

@puppeteer

That a really good clarification to make.

Certainly I don’t expect it’ll disappear.

But better to get any big wave over now before the winter sets in proper.

That way, hopefully, and this is what modelling predicts, future waves will be less.

Surely by doing it this way the wave will be crashing right at the winter period? And we'll be coping with the aftermath all through Winter.

We can look at Israel and see the problems they've had and learn from it. Offer vaccines to children, get boosters offered but this should have been happening already not two months after schools have been back in my opinion.

herecomesthsun · 29/08/2021 11:36

@Peteycat

No they haven't. Only a minority have antibodies. It appears the mitigations in schools had some effect previously.

Our secondary school was very careful and only had a handful of cases, mostly in the last week or 2 of the summer term.

They have made some pretty awful mistakes so far. Bit worse than an "oops they can't win".

We bloody well need the figures so that we know what is going on, it would be more anxiety provoking not to have them.

The CMO & JVT are expecting a difficult winter. You may well notice that you are in a pandemic come January.

we are still testing kids (presumably you aren't a secondary school parent?)

false positives will not be a very large problem when there are so many cases in the community.

mrshoho · 29/08/2021 11:40

Is it not the case that we've discovered antibodies either from infection or from vaccination last only approximately 6 months so whether children caught in last year is irrelevant? Isn't this the whole problem with managing this virus?

herecomesthsun · 29/08/2021 11:41

@Peteycat

Getawaywithit, education won't keep going if healthy kids who test positive and who have no symptoms are repeatedly sent home. That is is mass disruption.
that is common sense
Watapalava · 29/08/2021 11:48

Here come

You may be sending kids home to test but neither or my teens have or will test if asymptomatic

None of their friends test either

Watapalava · 29/08/2021 11:48

It’s ridiculous to isolate so many people esp when hardly any went onto get the virus afterwards

CallmeHendricks · 29/08/2021 11:55

And here is exactly why we are in the shit position we are in.
