How can it possibly be a good idea to NOT isolate if a household member tests positive?

As the new rules will allow?

I think it's absolute madness.

We've all had positives over the last three weeks and even though we are all double jabbed, the illness is really, really nasty.

We all tested positive about 5
Days apart, like bloody dominos.

I just can't believe what destruction we would have unleashed had we not had to isolate.

Because stopping the world forever would be ridiculous. It's time to move on.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 11:37

@CordeliasPencil - have you had Covid?

OP posts:
CordeliasPencil · 14/08/2021 11:37

What relevance is that to anything?

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 11:38

Well you can't isolate from your family.... of course you all got it off each other

Hopefully people will be wearing masks and distancing better if people they live with contract it

As said above, we need to get on with life, move on,it's time!

Hollyhead · 14/08/2021 11:38

Because I think a lot of people will still be reasonably sensible. For example if DH tested positive I would cancel social events, get shopping delivered and work from home. However I would still allow myself a walk around the block, or football in the park with the DC. Just because it’s not a legal requirement doesn’t mean you go all out if you know you’ve been in contact.

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 11:39

Oh op, come on! Covid is MILD for most people!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 14/08/2021 11:39

What, forever?

Because people have to go to work/school/uni. So most people will want to take a test and crack on if negative.

‘The illness’ is not ‘really, really, nasty’ for everyone, either.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 11:39

I am double vaccinated, as are my family.

We have all contracted Covid and it has floored us.

If you'd have had it, I'm not sure you'd be so blasé.

Allowing people free reign to spread the virus when they LIVE with someone positive is just irresponsible.

xksismybestletter · 14/08/2021 11:40

It might be a good idea but it might not be practical or desirable.

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 11:40

Someone wants a bit of dramalama I think!

Move on op! Most people are vaccinated!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 14/08/2021 11:40

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo well OP, it’s not up to you is it?

CordeliasPencil · 14/08/2021 11:40

I have had it. I currently have hayfever which is worse. It's mild for most people. The world can't stop for everyone, you're being ridiculous.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 11:41

@SmidgenofaPigeon

😂😂😂😂

I completely agree actually, OP.

I live in a house with 4 others-all of whom will be attending work/school/public transport each day coming into contact with lots of others. If one of them tests positive, I will still be expected to come into work each day. I teach PPA cover so could potentially teach every class in our school over the course of the week-that could be a lot of spread!

It sounds like the government are not planning on continuing the regular twice-weekly lateral flow screening tests after September either, so the plan is to just completely ignore covid and pretend it isn’t happening. We’ll have to wait and see how that all pans out.

Course you can. Quarantine is possible on a household. I've got it all ready in place for noro, don't see how it can't be used for other stuff.

Of course I don't have any littlies, which helps.

Feel better OP.

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 11:41

Op.... maybe your family don't react well to even mild illnesses. Hence your 'floored' comment

We aren't ALL like that. Many people experience mild to zero symptoms.

palacegirl77 · 14/08/2021 11:44

Agree with the sentiment here - covid, for most people, is a mild illness. We have all just had it - it was a lot less bad than I thought it would be (I appreciate this isnt the same for everyone) but I think labelling it as very very nasty invokes unnecessary fear in people.

I agree with the position that most people will be sensible. As soon as we got symptoms we all hunkered down and didnt see anyone - we all got positive results within 48 hours so the longest we had to isolate was 12 days. Unfortunately it is time to move forward with this wretched thing.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 11:44

@gardeninggirl68

Not at all. We're typically pretty hardy.

I work 2 / 3 days a week in London. My hockey-playing boss has been off for 6 weeks with Covid and a fair few of my colleagues are suffering long recovery periods.

If id have not isolated, how many others would I have infected?

No.

I have found during the last 18 months that peoples definitions of floored is very very varied.

I live with severe, life limiting chronic illnesses and most people's descriptions I've read of 'floored from covid" would be a bloody brilliant day for me.

So sorry no, when the rules are relaxed then I won't be following rules that aren't there. I have enough limitations of my life already and I think some people need to get a bit of a grip.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 14/08/2021 11:45

You can share a bed with someone and not get covid, and that pre vaccine, so if the positive person can be responsible about distancing it’s certainly not a guarantee that you’ll get it and be ‘floored’ by it like a row of dominoes. Potentially no need to have your door marked and all be holed up inside hand wringing like bubonic plague victims at all.

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo

It is utter lunacy! What the people saying 'we have to get on with our lives' 🙄🙄don't seem to realise us the sick & dead people don't live very good lives or make very good employees!!

I think a positive case in the house should still mean other people in the house still need to isolate. Madness to do away with that!!

Effybriest · 14/08/2021 11:46

@gardeninggirl68 you'll be telling us it's just like the flu next lol. Most people aren't vaccinated either Hmm.

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 11:46

@CordeliasPencil

I have a daughter with serious chronic illness.
Please don't patronise me, I'm fully aware of what 'floored' means. 😠😠😠😠

For how long do you propose this?

How many more days of school do you want children to miss?

How many more unpaid days off work do you want people to cope with?

You're totally unrealistic.

Well deal with your covid and stop telling other people that you think that we should isolate forever more then. The world can't stop forever to appease you.
