How can it possibly be a good idea to NOT isolate if a household member tests positive?

As the new rules will allow?

I think it's absolute madness.

We've all had positives over the last three weeks and even though we are all double jabbed, the illness is really, really nasty.

We all tested positive about 5
Days apart, like bloody dominos.

I just can't believe what destruction we would have unleashed had we not had to isolate.

I think there are, unfortunately, lots of situations where common sense cannot be used:

  • Parents cannot use common sense in keeping their children at home, due to school attendance rules.
  • Adults who work out of the home cannot use common sense if their employers require them in work.

I therefore don't blame anyone who finds themselves in a situation where they WANT to isolate themselves or a member of their household - but can't.

@BluebellsGreenbells where is that?

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/08/2021 00:14

Isle of Man

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/08/2021 00:17

I will add there’s no socks distancing no mask all pubs clubs bars shops are open. Large gathering are happening. Theatres are packed.

No requirement to be vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Boarders are open bar a few restrictions on tests for the unvaccinated - children don’t get tested.

No equipment for LFT for anyone unless the business decides they are using them.

Free to come to work even with positive cases at home vaccinated or otherwise.

Zorya · 17/08/2021 00:31

I agree with you OP.
Close contacts who don’t live with you is one thing, but people who do should have to isolate.
Same with keeping masks on indoors. I just don’t understand why they got rid of that yet.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 17/08/2021 01:15

Thanks Bluebell. Pretty dire.

I agree that households should continue to isolate. The delta variant is still so prevalent and is so transmissible within households. Many people would like to act responsibly but won't be in a position to do so if they have children at school or an employer who requires them to be at work.

It puts people in an impossible situation. What a dangerous, reckless government. Pretending covid doesn't exist. They know the long term £cost will be greater, but don't care as it won't be on their watch. Deliberately letting people get infected is awful. Acting as though there is no point in mitigations - even unobtrusive ones such as ventilation is awful.

lannistunut · 17/08/2021 08:30

Absolutely agree that not investing in ventilation is disgusting, they could for example start with schools for pupils with complex health needs. But no, nothing Angry

StopIgnoringLongCovid · 17/08/2021 09:54

None of this negates the fact that even with a MILD case of covid which doesn’t floor you… you can still develop Long Covid… and it might not even be immediately apparent!

I got covid in winter (before vaccinations wete available!) and 7 months later I’m in bed rather than working. It’s absolutely fucking miserable. I keep hoping I’ll get better … but I’m not.

My energy is near 0, I’m short of breath, my chest hurts and my brain doesn’t work as it did.

I know of 4 others who have had Long Covid, 1 has recovered. The 3 others are all overwhelmed with feeling ill, yet trying to hold down jobs, relationships and families. 1 is still working but really struggling.

So my cosy life has just exploded in front of my face. There appear to be no treatments.

It’s shit. Please don’t diminish Long Covid - anyone can get it.

@StopIgnoringLongCovid Flowers

I personally have always felt that ignoring long covid would be something we will look back on as wilful neglect - a bit like when the government knew about CJD and tried to hide it.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/08/2021 11:16

I'm CEV and got it. I've had worse colds.

chocolatemonster · 17/08/2021 20:38

DD had Covid around a month ago, we came out of isolation and 2 weeks later DS gets it. Both teens. Just come out of isolation - DP and I both double jabbed and haven't caught it either time. We took a PCR both times and did regular lateral flows. Amazed I didn't catch itvftom DD as I drank out of her glass the day before.

DP is self employed and had jobs where he could have worked outside. It's financially draining and with a neg PCR, no symptoms and regular lateral testing I think it would have been fine outside. I wouldn't hwve gone to restaurants etc but we can't keep isolating constantly.

Abraxan · 17/08/2021 22:45

@Toddlerteaplease

I'm CEV and got it. I've had worse colds.
Sadly that's not the same for everyone though.

I'm CV and got it. I ended up in hospital and will be on medication for life due to an issue caused by the covid infection.

WhereAreWeNow · 18/08/2021 14:49

I'm sorry @Abraxan Flowers

I think that's the point, isn't it? It's not very helpful to point to one person's mild experience of covid and make policy on the basis of that. For every person who just had mild cold symptoms, there are others who ended up in ICU, or with life changing complications, or dead. That's what's so scary about covid, you just don't know if you'll be one of the lucky "I've had worse colds" people or if it will be a devastating illness with long term consequences.

CirqueDeMorgue · 18/08/2021 18:13

Not rtft but I have it and I'm ok. 🤷‍♀️

@CirqueDeMorgue so what ? So your experience invalidates others who were ill 🤷

How is what I said different to 'I had covid and it floored me?' Two different experiences. That ok with you?

CirqueDeMorgue · 19/08/2021 13:25

It's like the only experiences of Covid that matter here are the terrible ones. So silly. 🙄
Also, re the actual thread title, I'm the only person out of my family, friends and coworkers who has it. These are people with whom I'm in close proximity a lot of the time, even share a bed with one. So, while it's infectious, sharing a house doesn't mean you will definitely catch it.
