How can it possibly be a good idea to NOT isolate if a household member tests positive?

As the new rules will allow?

I think it's absolute madness.

We've all had positives over the last three weeks and even though we are all double jabbed, the illness is really, really nasty.

We all tested positive about 5
Days apart, like bloody dominos.

I just can't believe what destruction we would have unleashed had we not had to isolate.

* just can't believe what destruction we would have unleashed had we not had to isolate.*

Very very very little.
So, someone, in all likelihood double vaccinated, may have felt under the weather for a few days or even rather poorly.

Just like if you’d gone out and with norovirus or the flu.

Or would you have quarantined your family with these conditions as well

How about this for a test.

From Monday: You're on a bus. No mask.
Lady sits down next to you and starts chatting.

"Oh, my husband is really quite poorly with Covid - I'm off out to get him some supplies".

Would you honestly be happy to sit next to her?

We bloody should isolate people if their family has novovirus etc - would you say 'yes' to friends coming round in that situation?
No-one's going to invite friends! But people have to go to work to survive 🤷🏼‍♀️

Being able to isolate your whole family is a privilege and don't forget it. It's all very well saying you'll work from home - spare a thought for the people who can't, who don't get sick pay, are on minimum wage... and keep the country going while the middle classes sit smugly on their comfortable arses telling anyone who'll listen how altruistic they are.

Marmitemarinaded · 14/08/2021 12:06

Absolutely no intention to quarantine here if anyone tests positive

Marmitemarinaded · 14/08/2021 12:07

Not that I’d even test tbh

Redlocks28 · 14/08/2021 12:07

What’s the betting that GP’s/hospital appointments/dentists etc won’t allow you to keep your f2f appointment if someone in your household tests positive, though!

No. I’d get up and move and carry on with my day.

Just like if she said - my husband has been puking for the last two days.
Or my husband has been laid low with the flu

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 14/08/2021 12:08

Why wouldn't you test, @Marmitemarinaded ?

OP posts:
Marmitemarinaded · 14/08/2021 12:09

I can’t stand the test process as makes me gag!

But in any case, what’s the point if I have no intention of quarantine?!

ineedaholidaynow · 14/08/2021 12:11

@Marmitemarinaded so if you had symptoms would you mix with elderly/vulnerable people? Do you do the same with other illnesses like flu, norovirus.

DH has a client who runs care homes. When visits were restricted they managed to avoid COVID, but their death rates were also lower for things like norovirus as visitors weren’t bringing that into the care home like they used to

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 12:11

@Effybriest will I?? Really? Have a word with yourself love!

Why would I not have a mask on? I have every intention of continuing to wear a mask. That is far more realistic than cutting off your source of income for 10 days.
changingstages · 14/08/2021 12:12

I think it seems a bit foolhardy and am definitely worried but not much we can do about it - continue being careful, I guess.

Am astonished by the anger in the responses though. We've all lived through these restrictions, we've all had a shitty time, some of us have lost loved ones so feel a bit anxious, some of us have lost livelihoods so feel shit about that - what good will it do to snarl at each other like this?

Also: we DO isolate for noro/D&V in society, you can't send your kid to school/nursery for 48 hours and you can't visit hospitals etc. That timescale is because of the infection period of noro, so it's a bit of a pointless comparison. Those with the flu should stay at home too, definitely.

Your mask won't protect YOU from others.

Define rare?

I'm of course very glad to not be in hospital, but I know more that a handful of vaccinated
People Who've been quite ill for more than a couple of weeks.
Looking at recent stats, 1 in 75 people had Covid last week and 6.6 per 100,000 were admitted to hospital, so that's about 1 people in 200 needing any form of hospital treatment... and most of those will be unvaccinated or CEV, so severe illness with Covid is rare, far, far more so if you're healthy and fully vaccinated.

The same way I would react if she said her husband had any other contagious illness. Probably think "oh great thanks for spreading your germs", but then got on with my day.
gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 12:12

Paid isolation is ending.... time to move on with this

Minds will change when you are not paid for hiding out at home

Yes I honestly wouldn't care
Marmitemarinaded · 14/08/2021 12:14

I don’t mix with anyone elderly - no reason to.

Vulnerable - not either. I go to work, I see my close friends, I go shopping etc. I never travel on public transport for example.

If I was to stand in queue with an unvaccinated vulnerable person - then essentially I’m standing next to someone who obviously isn’t that concerned about their “vulnerability” so I why should I be.

In short, if I had symptoms but was generally fine to be out and about, then I wouldn’t test and I would crack on.

If I had symptoms and felt rough, I wouldn’t test but I’d presumably stay in anyway because I felt rough

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 12:15

Those demanding everyone 'isolates' are the ones in shops moaning and kicking off over lack of staff

It's hot to stop sometime, why not now?

It will protect me enough thank you. Certainly more so than no mask at all.

gardeninggirl68 · 14/08/2021 12:15

*got!

ineedaholidaynow · 14/08/2021 12:16

But your friends may see/care for vulnerable people @Marmitemarinaded

sleepwouldbenice · 14/08/2021 12:17

I agree with you OP over households. I also think PCR should be compulsory. But we are where we are and let's see how Autumn goes....
We must be in safe hands with the attitude of many posters on here. Esp those using mature phrases like dramalama....🙄
