Even after the vaccine, deaths are 7 times worse.

@DolphinFC

It wasn't easy. To laughed at more was hurtful.

I have become increasingly concerned at the number of people who have stopped wearing masks at a time when clearly the virus is still widespread.

I did start this thread during a moment of weakness. I regret it know

I deserved many of the comments I got on this thread. However some where cruel and unnecessary.

I started this in good faith. The likes of Stuffin, AlmosrSummer and partiticulary Clarky just saw a chance to mean.

Clarke, I hope you present yourself as a better role model to your children in class.

What you posted is out right dangerous. It can be used by anti-vaxxer for an agenda to help deter vulnerable people from getting the vaccine.

You have quite rightly got your arse handed to you with the remind to check your stuff before posting crap and put numbers into context, not just copy and paste them from some dickhead.

In terms of masks, whilst im not terribly happy with it, we also aren't seeing numbers skyrocket either.

Theres a guy on twitter called Stephen B Streater who is following the numbers and says that whilst they are bouncing around a bit at the moment they are within what we would expect. His theory is when vaccinations reach a high enough level the R cant get above 1 so should drop off naturally. He calls it the gold vaccine limit line

@Jourdain11

It's quite easy to do!
For many reasons, it's not 'easy' to get people to stay in their homes again, in the warmest sunniest part of the year. Just not realistic.
Skiptheheartsandflowers · 11/08/2021 22:00

But really dont expect sympathy when you post ill-informed dangerous crap. People dont like it. Quite rightly.

Agreed. If you're scared and worried, say so and people will discuss and reassure. But this style of posting is a gift to the anti-vax types, and is really unhelpful for people whose mental health is fragile.

"Quartz2208

I'm not anxious, not at all.

Just socially responsible.

But you arent though are you? You are so single mindedly focused on just one element of this the COVID/NHS side that you say we will be in a full lockdown so flippantly as if it is a walk in the park.

If you were really socially responsible you would see that there needs to be a balance between COVID/variants/Long Covid and the effects of lockdown and restrictions.

That isnt to say that keeping some measures in place wasnt sensible or indeed that they might not come in."

Well said @Quartz2208 I am so fed up with people for whom lockdown is easy being sanctimonious about how socially responsible they are in embracing it, whilst glossing over the other aspects of society that you highlight. As we all know from Nanny's multiple posts, she works from home in a nice spacious house on a high income with a non-abusive partner and older/adult children. So easy to be "socially responsible" in that situation, eh?

That's the difference between controlling transmission and not OP.

Last August we had low cases, this August detected cases are high and actual cases are almost certainly higher still.

Vaccines can't do it on their own. If we don't support them with infection control then admissions and deaths will be higher than times when we controlled transmission better.

Some people like to say that cases don't matter - but they obviously do.

Bordois · 12/08/2021 08:04

Lol, what are the chances. Wait 3 weeks and 2 turn up at once 🤣

Was just thinking the same🤔
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/08/2021 10:26

@Jourdain11

Anyone who doesn't see that we should be in lockdown is fucking selfish. How hard is it just to STAY AT HOME? And why do you need to wait for the government to tell you to do it? Locking down from now till next summer is so obviously the only way forward Hmm
Don't you mean STAY THE FUCK AT HOME?!?
Jourdain11 · 12/08/2021 21:42

Stay at home = staying at home
Stay the fuck at home = not been outside since January 2020, peering out of your window and reporting neighbours for taking their bins out, and grating mouldy cheddar cheese into your coffee.

NannyAndJohn · 13/08/2021 11:57

The "cheese in coffee" has been confirmed to be fake.

Likely invented by an "anti-dementor" trying to portray anyone daring to display an ounce of caution as a lunatic.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/08/2021 12:00

That one might have been fake but there were plenty of lunatics around berating anyone who did something that didn't comply with their version of the rules!

Jourdain11 · 13/08/2021 12:18

Yeah, okay, I was kind of being flippant. I do believe it had some basis though!

Eating crisps on a bench..going on 2 walks..going for walks more then a hour..going shopping and not buying just essentials. Know people were worried but some of the reactions to someone doing something they were actually allowed to do was madness
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/08/2021 12:21

I seem to remember it being mentioned on the thread where I was told DH and I were thick because he bought me chocolate when he was buying his non essential milk

Jourdain11 · 13/08/2021 12:23

My DD and DH were laid into for buying non-essential Muller corners (alongside a load of other stuff) in Lidl.

Jourdain11 · 13/08/2021 12:23

And the Easter Eggs!

It is actually a thing, a Swedish thing. This is from six years ago www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/Coffee/comments/2kz1ag/question_cheese_in_coffee/

But yes, it was probably taken completely out of context and bandied about.

PatriciaHolm · 13/08/2021 12:37

I believe the cheese in coffee comment came from here. see attached comment.

from this thread - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/a3871017-People-demanding-a-full-lock-down?msgid=95317327#95317327

In which people seemed to be seriously suggesting getting the military out at the end of every street, only shopping every 3 weeks, etc....

In the 1st 7 days of Aug 2020 71 people died. In the 1st 7 days of Aug 2021 620 people died.
Jourdain11 · 13/08/2021 14:05

Some people said the general public shouldn't be allowed out to shop at all - the army should do food drops.

LoadsOfShite · 13/08/2021 15:34

Oh god thank you for linking back to that old thread, I needed a laugh. My personal favourite is freezing milk in flat bags and icecube trays 🤣🤦‍♀️

OliveTree75 · 13/08/2021 15:54

God that thread from last year is bonkers

I don't see what's so hysterical about that, we've always (for decades, that is) bought two lots of milk and frozen one to save another trip to the shops.
LoadsOfShite · 13/08/2021 16:08

It's the 'im not defrosting a milk cube so I can have a cup of tea' comments 🤣

BigWoollyJumpers · 13/08/2021 16:10

@AnyFucker

Is that you, PrincessNutNuts ?

Or that other one, forgotten the doom lingering name

It's Nanny and they are already here Grin.
Jourdain11 · 13/08/2021 17:27

It's Nanny AND John, actually.
