Normal life is back

I don't know about you but life where I am is pretty much back to normal, masks in shops falling rapidly. People having a good time. Covid barely gets mentioned now. (and yes I know people are still catching it and a tiny proportion will die)

It feels great. So what happened to the 200,000 cases a day doom scenario peddlers on here? They seem rather quiet.......

OP posts:
lannistunut · 13/08/2021 10:52

I have already said I agree with Chris Whitty what more do you want to hear?

Yes I know, and you are at liberty to post as much or as little as you wish.

Personally, I consider Hmm to be an adequate response to this government's so-called 'strategy'. As a British citizen, I have the right simply to disparage my government. They are a corrupt shower of shit. I don't have to describe it all in detail, we all lived through it, we all have eyes.

For me Hmm sums it up perfectly well.

milkyaqua · 13/08/2021 10:55

For me Hmm sums it up perfectly well.

It is indeed admirably restrained.

MarshaBradyo · 13/08/2021 11:00

Knock your socks off.

I prefer to separate CMO and other experienced groups and listen to what they think.

If others want to respond to posts with that Hmm face (which is irritating) or just say twat on every post up to them. Hopefully the next election will go your way.

I would just politely ask - why do you need to criticise other posters, to say the way they post is irritating?

I think you have the right to post as you wish. I think you should show others (including me) the same courtesy.

MarshaBradyo · 13/08/2021 11:09

Yes you can ask - Some would see quoting a word someone had posted then putting Hmm as not great discussion.

It’s not exactly a useful response to a post that was measured and focusing on CMO.

The way it comes across is to suggest the poster doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Maybe you didn’t mean it that way but there wasn’t much to go on.

Doodlebug71 · 13/08/2021 11:14

@Ethelfromnumber73

I'm also wondering where all the posters who claimed we would never get our freedom back have disappeared to Hmm
What is this freedom you speak of, and who is it granted to?

Covid hasn't gone anywhere. It's still here. The only difference is that the UK govt removed restrictions and asked that people take personal responsibility for their actions instead. So now we have scores of people who apparently think it's all over, and that the CV and CEV bugger off. Which is pretty much how the UK govt has been treating the vulnerable for many years.

Cases are rising, and averaging 30,000 new cases a day. 615 people died of covid this last week. 40% of the population remain unvaccinated (double-jabbed), and even those who *are double jabbed can still contract and pass this on.

Those figures are neither normal nor okay. They're happening during the summer months, when more people are outside, and few pupils are back at school yet.

So many people seem to have forgotten (or just ignored) that with rights come responsibilities. You have to right to choose whether or not you mask and distance, but you are also responsible for the consequences of that, whatever those may be.

Something is very rotten in the state of Denmark Ministry of Health. .

Everyone has the right to disparage any government. It's only reasonable to disparage the UK government's strategy, because they are such an incompetent and gas-lighting shower of shit, it really does demonstrate a powerful lack of political nous that enough people continue to vote for them.

They encourage ignorance and stupidity, because that's what helps keep them in power.

MarshaBradyo · 13/08/2021 11:25

People are of course free to criticise and vote as they want to.

I do see Chris Whitty as separate and someone who has done an excellent job throughout pandemic though.

This should be pinned to the beginning of every thread on this board.

So many people still don't fucking get it.

NannyAndJohn · 13/08/2021 11:42

Not sure why the bold didn't work there.

Sparklingbrook · 13/08/2021 11:46

This should be pinned to the beginning of every thread on this board

It really shouldn't. What would be the point? Confused

nomore3lw · 13/08/2021 11:50

What is it you want people to 'get' @NannyAndJohn

No one I know thinks Covid has 'gone away'. But people are making judgements on what they feel comfortable doing and are enjoying some normality.

What is it exactly you want? Everyone to be like you? Predicting consistently wrong outcomes for lols?

TheGenealogist · 13/08/2021 11:50

Probably because even the MN software is fed up with your doom-mongering?

Agree. No thanks

Might help some feel things are aligning with their views but other than that… why force one view onto everyone.

NannyAndJohn · 13/08/2021 11:54

People may realise that Covid is here but they definitely don't realise just how sky high cases are. And this is in the height of summer with schools closed.

AfternoonToffee · 13/08/2021 11:54

nannyandjohn you need to do * * round each paragraph, not just one and the beginning and end.

milkyaqua · 13/08/2021 11:55

@NannyAndJohn

Not sure why the bold didn't work there.
You have to bold every paragraph start and finish, annoyingly.
nomore3lw · 13/08/2021 11:56

@NannyAndJohn surely 100k cases a day in June would have been considered 'sky high'?

Like you wrongly predicted.

You never reveal what your motivation is... screeching on here day and night. What do you hope to achieve?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/08/2021 11:58

@NannyAndJohn

Not quite 100K by June or July though is it?

This should be pinned to the beginning of every thread on this board.

So many people still don't fucking get it.

Why? People do get it, they know it hasn't gone away.

(I presume you were part of the 'Stay the fuck at home' brigade)

NannyAndJohn · 13/08/2021 12:00

And 30000 is a small number? We were at 300-400 last summer.

And why does anyone wanting to be cautious have to have a political motivation?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/08/2021 12:02

No, 30K isn't a small number but it's not your completely wrong prediction of 100K in June is it?

nomore3lw · 13/08/2021 12:03

@NannyAndJohn it's not small. But its 70k less than you predicated.

Last summer and this summer are not comparable. We had significant restrictions and no vaccinations.

You are not 'cautious'. You are genuinely the most negative person I have ever encountered. I remember one thread you were actually gleeful that deaths had increased.

nomore3lw · 13/08/2021 12:05

@NannyAndJohn I actually didn't mean a political motivation. Just what is actually motivating you to behave like this - what do you hope to achieve by predicting all these outcomes? Government to spot your post and put us in a lockdown...?

Sparklingbrook · 13/08/2021 12:11

I know what I'd like to pin to the top of every Coronavirus thread. Much like the Health boards have this -

Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. If you have medical concerns, please seek medical attention; if you think your problem could be acute, do so immediately. Even qualified doctors can't diagnose over the internet, so do bear that in mind when seeking or giving advice

I think there should be a warning that nobody has checked the qualifications of those who claim to be an expert in Coronavirus on these threads.

NannyAndJohn · 13/08/2021 12:13

Utter bullshit.
